kinein Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 I somehow found my way here via X2 : the threat ( capture junkie ), and while I was browsing the humble abode of starshatter and it's 1 man developer I heard some nice comments concerning Battlecruiser and Derek Smart. So I came a hunting for more information on Universal Combat despite being skittish from reviews I had read and comments I had seen. I really am interested in this game as of right now and am considering purchasing it today when I grab my copy of Thief 3 ! I must ask a question, can you capture ships in this game? I am about taking things from npcs and what not ships guns weapons soldiers stations you name it. It's the reason why I enjoy playing X2 and why I enjoyed Morrowwind and other games of the type It's also the reason I'm getting Thief3. Other then that I'd like to mention that I think that what Dreamcatcher did with the price was a huge insult and unheard of. Shocking and wrong. I think that in the end HL2/Farcry/Doom3 have set the benchmark for what graphics should be like for games of Q4 2004, and into 2005. Not to mention Guildwars , Freelancer was purty. I hope another BC game comes out at the end of 2005 like I think I saw mentioned !!! Openended rocks.
Supreme Cmdr Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 Yeah, you can capture ships and deliver them to stations for rewards. You can also collect cargo pods (which contain items you can use or sell) dropped from destroyed ships etc

You can't capture ships and put it in a "ship pool" so to speak. But you can capture ships and deliver them to stations. That'll give you experience points, which again (if your caste is military) will give you higher rank. If you get a high enough rank you'll get "command and control". That means you can control allied ships in the form of "go to x", "escort x", attack x", "launch y fighters of type x", and so on. You can also capture stations. That'll result in experience points and the station becomming allied. The best part of the game is not what you CAN do, but what you CANNOT do.... Hope that answeared some of your questions
Guest Shingen Posted May 26, 2004 Report Posted May 26, 2004 You can't capture and then own ships in BC/UC, like you can in X2. They don't become part of your assets or anything, you just get exp and cash for delivery to starstations. I absolutely hated combat in X2! The flight model was atrocious because of the way the game handled joystick controls and strafing. BC/UC is almost entirely a tactical combat sim in space, with strategic elements. X2 is basically an economic sim in space.
