lodger Posted May 22, 2004 Report Posted May 22, 2004 I have since read that laptops may not support the game but thought I should mention this "fatal" problem I had. I am running a Toshiba 5200 series laptop with 2.2GHz, 512ram, GForceFX5600, P4, Windows XP Pro. The other night downloaded the 4th patch from the "3000AD" website where you log in with your serial number. I was playing the first level of the campaign when suddenly, my laptop crashed and received a windows stop message "PFN_LIST_CORRUPT" (Input/Output driver structure damage according to Microsoft). Tried to reboot and it from then on kept automatically trying to reboot. So I had no Alternative under the advise of the techies where I bought the laptop to restore my system. I did so using my recovery disks and now it won't boot at all. I get a "Disk Read Error". So whether it is the game patch's fault I do not know but thought it would be worth telling you. So for those laptop players...beware!

In fact, the latest patches don't have any single player components which would even affect the game kernel. If your HDD is hosed, it has nothing to do with the game. The game is not supported on laptops. If you can get it work, fine. The game works fine on both of my laptops.

Tried also to boot in safe mode and while running through loading up the drivers, stopped at agp440.sys and would freeze there. Oh Well, its unfortunate because I love the game and the concept and was just getting used to the features and was looking forward to battling online with thousands of other players...(did anyone else come across anybody else in the vast universe?) Maybe I didn't find the most popular server...May try the game again when it is back from the Toshiba techies.

After reading that link I posted above, I'm sure glad I still use windows98se. I use alot of older software (games, util etc...) plus another benefit for 98se is that it's not a target of hackers/virus writers they are concentrating now on the newer kid on the block XP . Of course 98 does have that issue of memory leak but with a good mem program that's not much of a bother. Anyway, good luck on the repair.
