shasla5 Posted July 18, 2004 Report Posted July 18, 2004 Every time I try to make planetfall on Centris in Alpha Centauri, the game crashes. Help please?
Supreme Cmdr Posted July 19, 2004 Report Posted July 19, 2004 That will only happen if you installed or patched the game incorrectly or if your video card does not have a pixel shader (which yours does). No other reason.
shasla5 Posted July 20, 2004 Author Report Posted July 20, 2004 Ok thanks, its probably just an isolated incident...
avaktar Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 - I have an ATI Radeon 9800se 128 DDR. - Latest DirectX 9.0c - Running game in 1024x768 - Patched game first with 2.00.00 - Patched game next with uc2[1].00.12.01 by copying these files into the Dreamcatcher3000AD Universal Combat directory - Running Windows XP I am going through the tutorial PDF in the Command (ROAM) Scenario, and both times when attempting planetfall with the CC I CTD. This happens PRECISELY after the audio message plays, "Coming out of HyperDrive" (I quite possibly paraphrased that ), and then Poof. Did I somehow patch the game incorrectly? By the way, I'm loving the simulation so far, it's a brilliant effort!
avaktar Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 Okay, I've tested it and narrowed down the problem: - Target planet, hit SHIFT-9 for hyperspace jump. - Enter [Y] to "Make Planetfall?" - At the point the ship exits hyperspace at an altitude where you would make planet-fall, the game crashes. - If you answer [N] to "Make Planetfall?" at the point of Jump initiation, it is possible to manually pilot the CC to 50km and then answer Y to making planetfall. - (I also ended up burying my CC under the terrain and though I could "fly" it around, I couldn't get it unstuck. Entering the atmosphere at 100% power, full thrust probably wasn't good, but who needs the Transporter room on Deck 1 when you have shuttles, anyway...) Supreme Cmdr Posted August 29, 2004 Report Posted August 29, 2004 Sounds like drivers or a bad patch install to me. You might want to read the section in the FAQ about uninstalling the game and starting from scratch with a patch. If the patches are installed incorrectly, all kinds of things will go wrong. Despite the warning in the files download page, the VCF, then FAQ, on this site etc, it is simply amazing to me that some people still DON'T do it right. Then when they do it, they're amazed that it actually works. heh.
avaktar Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 Thank you for replying on a Sunday! (I unfortunately commuted an hour into San Francisco to work again, and haven't had a day off in two weeks, myself). I do believe this is the first time in 22 years I've been told a reinstall would fix the bug, and actually had that work. Thank you for your time.
BombFox Posted September 2, 2004 Report Posted September 2, 2004 Just to add to this, I have never had this problem, until I decided to save mid-way through the jump to the planet, to which point I had a CTD when I reached the planet. It doesnt happen otherwise, and its no big deal, Hyper-jump is a pretty dumb point to save anyway, but I just thought I would let you know SC
