Hey Gentlmen ,

I was fed my lunch last night by a firestorm and her fighter compliment, I was flying a sunflash.

( to see a rundowm of the battle its in the fun stuff section under experiences). I obviously need some help/advice.

Can any one offer advice on how to deal with cloaking carriers with a heavy cruiser?

Did I even stand a chance in the Sunflash? What heavy cruiser holds up best vs Carriers?

Should you ever use missles on fighter or is it a waste of firepower?

What missle would be best vs. Fighters?

How often/little should EMD be used to maintain it's effectiveness?

Any replies are greatly appreciated.

Cheers

This brings up a rather interesting thought. In BC3K it was basically one for all and all for one when it actually came to the game and strategy. With the upcoming introduction of MP, that changes a bit. Suddenly explaining tactics to an ensign becomes a bit more like publicly announcing where the key to the back door is hidden. As such, here are some general pointers:

[*]Try your best to avoid skirmishes until you've made any available upgrades to at least your shields and preferably your armor, reactor and engine.

[*]Fighters are extremely hard to hit unless your head to head and head to head often means you'll end up dead.

[*]EMD is your friend as often as you need it.

Having read over your post in Experiences, I can offer a bit of advice:

Run.

You were outnumbered and outgunned. At the very least, you should have ducked in close to the station and allowed it to help you. Alternatively, you can nearly jump twice for every carrier jump. You could have been clear back to Jupiter before he even got close to the jump point.

Only very smart AIs use cloaking. You were up against a very tough opponent.

Once MP is out, you'll have support. You can gang up against the carriers, and call in your own carriers for fighter support. Then you'll be able to take 'em down every time.

(I meant to post this ages ago, and forgot!)

It's in the manual, but worth mentioning, that when up against fighters, reducing the power to your PTA system increases the fire rate, giving your turrets a better chance of hitting those fast little ships. (more shots, less power).

I think 20-30% seems to be about optimal. The 12 turrets on your cruiser should be chewing those fighters to pieces.

Also, when up against fighters, crab mines have two important effects: effectively giving you an extra turret, and making your fire come from an additional point in space, making maneuvring those fighters a lot trickier.

Cheery chops,

Smiley
