Ah yes, thanks for your help but that was ages ago and it's all sorted now. The thing I was doing wrong was leaving drydock with the repair at 100% but engineers still showing on the Logistix-Crafts list.

Anyway, I fly an Aestrom now so I don't even need my main guns - I have my PTA.

NEVER UNDERSTIMATE THE POWER OF YOUR MAIN GUN SYSTEM!!!! If you can place a few shot right in something..... well it'll be vaporized before you can think of it twice.....

However if you don't have a joystick I'm afraid they'll be useless..... apart from strafing buildings on surface bases or capital ship coming out of hyperspace.... such as those big ugly and dead gammulan stormcarier....

Much thanks, Dennymala. Once I've got the whole set done for all armed craft and I make them look a bit nicer (right now for instance you can see I've been a bit sloppy on colours and geometric symmetry) then I'll consider PMing Gallion and seeing if he wants them in the appendix.

I'll probably see about documenting the PTA systems of Cruisers and Transports (and *sigh* the freaking Stormcarrier) later today. Might work on making the images look a wee bit nicer as well.

Considering that you've brought up the possibility of Appendix inclusion, I think I'll also need to see about whipping up Lossless PNG versions. I've deliberately coded these images with maximum lossiness which makes them tiny but creates a few compression artifacts.

Great stuff Korg, thanks.

Off topic but I just want to elaborate a little on what Denny said.

The first number is what you need for repairs of one of your assets systems and the second # after the slash is what you already have in inventory (need/have). So if you want to perform all repairs with your own system engineers then you need to buy until the first number is at least equal to the second number for all spare parts listed in Tradcom.

Testing out the PTA systems for the Cruisers is proving more difficult than expected.

Their lack of cloaking systems gives them the annoying habit of getting immediately blown up by nearby station defenses. If it weren't for the odd position of the ODS in Rinaal I'd be totally buggered.

One thing that's giving me problems: The Starcarrier. It's PTA system just damn well refuses to operate from any angle or range that I've tried.

Can any Starcarrier fans shed some light on the situation? What's that craft's sweet spot and at what range does it work best? I'm a bit tired of having that thing blown to bits by Insurgents before I can figure out where the hell it's PTA sweetspot is.

Just one Word: Bump!!!

I wish i had found earlyr the function: show all threats lol

Love that PTA spots, now my Megaron PTA are my new maingun ;-)#

But i would prefer that we have two PTA modes, one that cover 360 degree of our ship (or incerased Angle) and with lower power, like only 10% from the selected Blastpower

I think this deserves a shamless bump, with some modifications for UC.

1. The Aestrom sweet spot is no longer in that location. Above and behind seem to be the new places. A few of the models changed and therefore so did the arcs. It would be nice if someone could compile similar screen shots showing where to put the dots for the new ships.

2. Not really a UC issue, but a msg board one. When searching for "PTA" is there a way to filter it for just the whole word "PTA" instead of finding every word that happens to have "PTA" in it? Such as "caPTAin"? That word seems to be a favorite in just about everyone's signature... -_-

The UC's modified Killzone (Sweetspot) for the PTA system seems to be about directly above, to 45 degrees ahead, where it seems to fire either five, or possibly even SEVEN of the ten PTA turrets at one time.

And the Violon, I noted it likes top, bottom, and the sides at ninty degrees. Although its coverage DOES provide almost complete sphereical defense. And has anyone else ever thought the Violon looks like a Delta Airlines Tristar Airliner? Every time I leave a station and get that Third person perspective of the ship flying by, I feel like grabbing a pack of peanuts...

Remind me to drop a gundam colony on you later... right now, I have intruders to attend to... *rushes away.*

*Background sounds.*

"So you want to take me on!? BRING IT! Come on! Those lasers TICKLE! Here, let me show you some REAL power FIREBALL! *KABOOM!!!!* HAH! You weak intruders! Can't even take one spell! Have your Aestrom try this on to size..."

*Sound of an airlock opening can be heard, and amidst the blast of escaping air, a voice chants...*

"Darkness beyond twilight, crimson beyond blood that flows, buried in the stream of time, is where your power grows, I pledge myself to conquer, all the foes who stand, BEFORE the mighty gift, bestowed in MY unworthy hands. Let the FOOLS who stand before me be DESTROYED by the POWER YOU AND I POSSESS! DRAGON SLAVE!"

*A large explosion rocks the camera...*

Well, that was interesting, if completely off-topic... Mmh..magic in UC, things could get ugly!

But hey, if the galaxian probe is possible, why not magic? Or perhaps psionics would be more appropriate, but still... Perhaps a future game: "Battlecruiser: Mind Control" or something like that. A man can dream...

Words of wisdom from one Draxel.

"Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for you are CRUNCHY and taste GOOD with Ketchup."

On a totally unrelated note, but somehow back on topic with the posts...

Anyone know the BEST sweetspot on a Violon? It looks from placement of the PTA turrets on the hull to be above or below the ship.

I hope this thread isn't too old to post to.. anyway, as a tip, something I observed while trying out the multiplayer servers.

As stated earlier PTA systems engage missles (though they don't do enough damage in time to kill the missle, of course that is what EMD is for.)

If your in a fighter (say an elite pilot, or an AE Commander out on a strike mission in an FC), and your going to engage a carrier or cruiser, normally their PTA's will just chew you up before you even get into range, or at least should, unless your so lucky to come in at a blind spot.

You can distract the PTA system with missles. To allow you time to get in close to hit with your guns.

Keep in mind this doesn't always work, mostly you have to be lucky that your target was moving when you activated hyperjump, so you don't end up on top of him when you come out of hyperspace, you need to be just outside of range.

You come out of hyperspace and go full throttle at your target, when you see your shields get their first brush (or as soon as you get nervous) fire a volley of missles (I fire a couple for good measure, but I suspect you only need one).

While your closing range feel free to just keep your guns firing maybe you'll get some lucky hits, you only really seem to get em good once your close enough to see their shields flare up with your shots, after you've knocked out their shields, and you've done a few shots into their hull, Hyperjump outta there, by then their PTAs are probably back on you, and you need to get out alive with your shields intact, because you need to go in for another run once your shields recharge..

If you stayed in their long enough to get into their hull/armor, its likely you hit some crititcal systems, you can probably finish them off with your next run.

My prefered fighter for this is the S24-Raven, I chose this because of it's high speed, as imho, the less time you spend closing range the better chance you have to survive. Though I have yet to try out all the other fighters fully.

BTW PTA's look really pretty when they aren't firing at you

And of course this should be the main reason your CC should have a fighter escort
