What's next?

Lost in Space? the original sucked.

The movie blew humongous chunks! Why not make a new TV series that also blows Humongous chunks?

Everybody put your slickers on and pull the hat flaps down tight.

Don't want to get any of that Hollywood Sledge-O-Matic Spew on ya.

Here is a novel approach. Lets watch it BEFORE we trash it. I've taken some heat for trashing shit I havent seen yet and MAYBE deservedly so. At least I saw trailers, interviews, and in the case of Charlies Angels2 (officially a bomb) saw the first movie. But we are trashing something that NO ONE has saw one minute of. Watch it first!

Yup that's what I'm doing. Can't make a judgement on it till it's seen.

That is just sad, OMG, WTF do they think they are doing?

I mean Battlestar Galactica had a certain feel to it, a history, etc, and these guys sound like they took a big old butcher knife and started cutting it to pieces.

Sad, just plain straight up sad.

I think this says it all....

Seymour Butts would be a better Apollo than the actor those nimrods hired. I really canÔÇÖt believe I liked a reality show about a Porn Star looking for love and respect more than I did BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. God they ****ed up BATTLESTAR GALACTICA!

And this part I have to agree with, I think that I will have to go get a set as well.

I will tell ya what though This crap show did do one thing for me. It made me instantly buy that big ol box set of the originals. In the format that I saw it, there was absolutely not a single redeemable feature.

I have a good idea. Everybody who hasn't seen BG yet and ALREADY hates it just keep watching the crappy reruns from the original show. You guys are elevating the original like it was King Lear or something. I admit I liked the Pilot and some of the episodes hold up but this aint Star Trek! If we had an internet ST:NG would have never gotten past the first season cause Lord knows they laid more than thier fair share of stinkers including the comical Pilot. Trashing a show you havent even seen yet? And honestly if you have this much ill will built up before it comes out how great will it have to be to change your minds? You have lost the ability to be objective.

I respect Harry and all but insnt this the same guy who told us how great the Hulk was gonna be? The same guy tellin us how Kill Bill would make us forget Pulp Fiction ? Here's a novel idea. Watch the ****in show and make up your own minds.

Yup. Did anyone catch the program they have been showing on the sci-fi channel BattleStar Galactical- The low down. All it was was a defense against the zillions of nay sayers that have been talking to them about their interpretation of BSG. The major issue in particular is the changed character StarBuck to female. The actor who originally played Apollo was less than happy saying that they've changed the entire dynamics of BSG. The production team's defense is that they wanted to show a female in a strong positive roll and they sited the many variations of Romeo and Juliet. What R&J have anything to do with it I'll never know. That's like saying Hmmm we'll change Princess Lea's character from Luke's sister to Luke's brother or changing Frodo's friend Samwise to a female or making another Jesus Christ movie and changing Jesus to a female. Sure you can do it there is no law against interpretation even in the name of feminism to show women in strong powerful roles but it would be absolutely ridiculous. DonÔÇÖt get me wrong IÔÇÖm not against

showing women in this light but introduce a new character that is equal to StarBuck is the correct way to do that. My take on the whole thing is theyÔÇÖre using feminism as a detriment to us guys. Makes me wonder whoÔÇÖs really pulling the strings in the production of BSG.

So now we are comparing Christ to Starbuck? Have mercy! As far as Richard Hatch, he's just pissed cause he hasnt had an acting job in 20 years. Again, just watch the damn show or not and quit elevating the original to a status it doesnt deserve. Next we'll be saying how great and influencial Buck Rogers was (the Gil Gerard version).

I am not comparing Starbuck to Christ but making a comparison as to the character change. And yes I did watch it tonight all I have to say is that a bad Star Trek movie would have been more enjoyable. The actors they got just don't have any chemistry at all. I just wished they used the money to make a Babylon 4 mini series starting from the point where Capt. Sinclair and the B4 were taken back in time to the first Shadow war. And guess what it would not be another crappy remake. As for Buck Rodgers that should not even have been made!

Not great and not horrible. I thought it did it's job which was to entertain me free of charge for a few hours. Yeah the soft core porn was laughable. Sure when the cylon broad broke the baby's neck I thought "shock value". Even the "a$$hole" comment made me say, "why what was the point?". That all taken into account though I thought it was pretty good. A hangar bay turned into a gift shop, relic vipers conveniently enough are housed on Galactica... so? It's entertainment and a story about "colonials" named after fraternities and sororities. Sure the President is the 42nd person in line of succession we're supposed to gleen from that the complete and utter devestation even if Adama should rightfully be in control.

Are you getting my point yet? Sure the show is far fetched to nearly ridiculous, I still thought the fight scenes were great. I still got a rush when the old vipers took off on the catapults. I was legitimately spooked by the new Cylon upgrades (not the broad she was eye candy) I'm talking the warriors. Nothing not to like about them, nothing not to like about the cylon vessels.

Sure Starbuck is a chick. Sure the Colonel is white and drunk. So? What should they do, dig up Lorne Greene? Taken for what it is Galactica succeeds. If you wanted high art you should have tuned to PBS. And eventhough I thought Bab5 was one of the best series ever... this surely beat the TBS version of that show.

I look forward to episode two.

I thought it was Freaking AWESOME!!! Best made for TV SCifi show i have ever seen. Totally love it. I dont mind the Character changes at all. In my book the whole thing works very smoothly.

I love the Whole look and feel of the show. Teh Characters, the acting. This is serious Quality stuff.

Anyone who would bag on this show because of an origional series that did not even last a Full Tv seaason needs to get their head examined. Its not like there is any real history here.

Episode one was Great. I am looking forward to episode 2. My only regret is that after tomorrow that is the end.

IMO this is the best Scifi show since TNG and Babylon 5. (i think its better than B5)

I donÔÇÖt agree with any of your criticisms at all. I think it all flowed very well and the dialogue was well written and made sense. I donÔÇÖt think any of it was "Far fetched" or ÔÇ£sillyÔÇØ or "LaughableÔÇØ at all in the setting of the entire show.

IMO you and others had decided to tear this apart before it was ever on and are now forced to come up with forced ÔÇ£laughableÔÇØ nitpicky and imo silly reasons to slam it because its Damn Good.

(actually Adama should not be in control. The USA and most other cuntries have a clear power Chain. What happens in galactica is *Exactly* what would happen in the case of a devestating attack on the US. The highest ranked Government official would be sworn in until such a Time as a normal election could be held. This pretty much summs up how I view the validity of the rest of your critical comments)

Look at it this way, like with most things everyone has their own point of view each just as valid as the others nitpicking is just part of it. Tell me there was not one thing you've nitpicked? And to say his reasons are silly is just as silly because his point of view is just as valid as yours is to say it's Damn Good. Opinions on BSG are going to be as diverse as the people making the opinions. As for me BSG just didn't do anything for me story wise and mostly character wise. I guess that's the problem with seeing and experiencing too many things I knew what was going to happen in most part before it happened so there was no suspense in it for me and everything had that seen it before aspect.

Anyway, I actually turned it on and tried to watch it with an open mind and put aside all my negative convictions even after reading all about it on the official web site and others as well as the hour episode Battlestar Galactica: The low down which they had put together more as a defensive move against all the nay sayers which I found laughable that they even had to do this. Tells you that there are a hell of alot of people upset about the character makeover among other things. I'll give you this the special effects are good. But special effects alone don't make a movie. It's like an Oreo cookie without the filling. And in my opinion BSG just doesn't have the filling. Blame the actors, Blame the director or blame them both I don't care because there just is no chemistry between any of the characters. The only character I had any sympathy for was the executive office who gave the order to lock down the section of BSG that was about to blow and take the whole ship with it even though that meant killing the 100 crew members that were trapped there and seeing their bodies get blasted out into space. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes on that call. That pretty much is it for memorable scenes and pretty much it on my opinion on the whole thing.

I watched this last night - and it reminded me why I NEVER listen to critics. I want to see a movie, I just go; and be my own critic.

I absolutely LOVED it. Sure they made some creative changes; but that is to be expected, given our day and age.

Yes, the Cylon chic was spooky and I'd sure as hell like to know how they [Cylons] pulled that off.

I liked the combat scenes. Very subtle, not over-the-top and just enough to be entertaining.

I like all the characters, though I question why we have to contend with a drunk XO and a surly Commander.

Starbucks - the chic - was a bad, bad call. Her character has NO redeeming qualities (I liken her to Kim Bauer on 24, that annoying l'il sh*t) from this first episode. And she's more of a tomboy than anything - and worst of all, she can't carry a scene.

The actor playing Apollo seemed to be struggling with his scenes, to the extent that at any moment, I expected him to run off to the bathroom because he always seem constipated.

The worse thing they did was cast those two as leading characters (Apollo/Starbuck). I sure hope it gets better. Even the two pilots (dunno their names) who got attacked by the Cylons and crash landed on the planet, were much, much better actors than those two.

The love scenes were unneeded, gratuitous and laughable. When you have no less than three of those within the first 38 mins, you know something's clearly wrong.

Was I being overly critical? I thought that I was middle of the road. It entertained me what more can you say to praise a show... well let's see, I also liked the effects and hmmmm.... I do seem to recall that I looked forward to seeing Episode 2. So I don't get where I tore the thing to shreds.

Grizzled old commanders with a bit of a mean streak, not entertaining? Come on we have one of those right here and most people seem to find him very entertaining. They lived through the first war, they're realists. Our commander seems to have weathered a few of those storms as well.

I thought overall it was as good as the ST/NG pilot and there is a reason I'm making that comparison. If we based how Next Gen would eventually evolve as a series on "Farpoint" it would not have been a favorable review. No name actors goofy plot points and that ridculous cheerleading outfit Deaana Troi was wearing pointed to bomb. Truth be told I didnt even start watching until season two.

Based on the POTENTIAL for character developmentand future story lines and the strong acting of Olmos and the chick playing the president, I feel it was a success. The guy who played Baltar has tons of potential, he was like a slimy combination of Dr. Julian Bashir and Dr. Smith on Lost in Space. I like that he is just weak and vain and not pure evil like the Colicos character. I really never understood what the motivation for selling out your own race would be.

Good sfx, good plot. Awful injection of "hey we can say ******* on tv" and unneeded sex scenes were weaknesses. The guy who played Chief Tyrol is pretty good as well. I for one hope it gets picked up as a series, but with all the negative internet pre-screening buzz, fat chance of that happening.

7.5/10
