And Jennifer Garner is always great on screen. 5/10 ps: It still set a record by making $43.5m in its opening weekend. With word of mouth, if it makes more than $100m (let alone anything near Spiderman numbers), I'd be shocked to say the least.

This movie represents all that is wrong with Hollywood today. They make a low quality film, jazz it up with costumes and special effects and throw a few million dollars behind marketing and watch us flock to the theater like sheep. It works time and time again. I laughed out loud during some of the action scenes where they had these characters flying from building to building and falling 50 feet without getting hurt, when none of them had any special "powers" except for maybe heightened senses or the ability to twirl knives. Bad script, acting, perfunctory love scene and unbelievable abilities make this one absolutely reprehensible. I thought it was far to violent for a PG13 rating. However, the most disturbing thing to me is their total abandonment of rational thinking in the action scenes. Daredevil simply cannot jump off the top of a building and fall 20 floors without getting splattered. He is not spider man, or some other human with enhanced physical abilities. I knew as I watched it that this type of totally unrealistic, unexplained action scenes were going to kill the movie in the eyes of the general public. Looking at various movie review boards that is exactly whats happening. The specific scenes that totally ruin this movie 1. Electra fighting Murdock in the playground. Totally impossible gravity defying moves. Completely cheesy looking 2. Electra being able to jump 15-20 Feet straight up onto walls etc. Again. Completely impossible, everyone watching knows she is not super human. 3. Bullseye standing up on his motorcycle for what looks like 2-3 Blocks going down a crowded street. 4. the final battle between DD and Bullseye. Both of them completely Defy Gravity almost every second of the fight. With absolutely no foundation in the storyline to support such capabilities. I actually heard people busting out in laughter during this one. The bottom line is this character is more like Batman that anything else. He does not kill the bad guys, he is not super human. He really is just a gifted Fighter/acrobat who fights normal Types of Crime in the inner City. Guest Grayfox Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 well i guess that settles it... im glad i didnt waste the full price to go see it opening day... ill blow 5$ and take the kid to see it on a matinee this weekend. now it really makes me wonder what the hulk is going to be like... and anyone hear about them doing a Thor flick in the near future???

And I'm quite certain that given time, he'd be able to rip the entire movie apart (as I did while watching it) scene for scene. It is just Marvel falling prey to the Hollywood money. They know for a fact that Daredevil, Electra and Bullseye are no super human. Yet, they allow crap like this. The only believable parts is where he gets his ass kicked by Electra and Bullsye in some parts. But thats it. Then again, that happens to all superheroes - so nothing revealing there. This movie was just plain bad and apart from the characters (heh, in the comics, Kingpin in White. Go figure), the movie wasn't true to any aspect of the Daredevil mythos by any stretch of the imagination. There is a damn good reason that the next Superman movie, that Fantastic Four movie etc have been languishing in script (and other areas) hell for many, many years. X-Men and Spiderman increased our hopes for good superhero movies. Then these fockers come along and ruin one of my all-time favorite characters with this piece of crap. As if it wasn't bad enough that the other idiots go and turn Blade2 into a literally unwatchable (to me at least) gorefest slash flick (I'm still pissed by that one). Funny enough, I have high hopes for Ang Lee's Hulk and Eric Bana (Black Hawk Down) is a very good and believable actor. Then there's X-Men2 which is looking great.

I dunno, the previews don't really look that good. You can tell that the hulk is fake, its blatently obvious, and that really affects a lot of people with movies. And the Thor flick, please, spare me. Thats the last thing we need, a 3rd rate movie of a 3rd rate cartoon (IMO). As for X-Men 2, yea SC that looks very cool. Hopefully I'll be able to catch it when it comes out.

At least DD could cameo in Spider Man because they were pretty good pals, or the Fantastic Four could cameo in spider man or vice versa because at least they had their fan base... Hulk looks cheesy but funny, cause I've never seen an M1 Abrams tank get swung around by it's gun barrel... Daredevil had great casting, I think Kingpin was black because that actor is the only guy who was big enough to have the body type of the king pin... I have same complaints as everyone else as far as unrealistic stunts...
Guest Grayfox Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 horse poop. the bigshow would have been perfect for the role as kingpin... the guys fat and huge, and hes got the persona down pat. as for the black panther... michael jai white would be perfect... athletic with a background in martial arts... besides he needs to redeem that crappy spawn movie. green arrow... no way. fantastic four... hmmm interesting. it would be good only if they have dr. doom in it, and i think the fx for the torch and the thing would be sweet. justice league would be sweet, but where would you find that many talented actors and actresses to play that multitude of roles??? and which green lantern would you have??? silver surfer would be sweet, but hes too omnipotent... i think that one would be a boring movie. they could use the fx like the t1000... that would look pretty cool another cool one would be if they did a movie on the infinity gauntlet, or secret wars. and how about in the next spiderman, they have venom? or the sinister six??? since roy orbison is dead, i think ronnie milsap would make an excellent dr. octopus lmao i could go on forever about this, so ill just stop now

Guest Grayfox Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 well, i took the kid to see it today... it wasnt too bad. the only thing that really annoyed me was the 20 foot jumps made by normal people. i liked the way they did his "radar" sense, that looked pretty cool, and my kid loved the fight scenes...and i think either the big show, or the dude who played dynamo in the running man would have been a better kingpin, although michael clark duncan did a decent job. the best thing i think was the soundtrack, and the preview for x-men 2... all i can say is sweet. overall 7/10 it didnt follow the CB all too well, but the fight scenes (although cheesey) were still pretty good. (wasnt that a quick glimpse of collossus in the XM2 trailer???)
d8alus Posted March 10, 2003 Report Posted March 10, 2003 Well, I hate to bring up an old topic, but I just have to get my two cents in. I finally went to see it this past weekend. My dad came with me and he LOVES comic books. I wish he hadn't sold his collection back when he was in college. Anyhoo...he was almost heartbroken when DD killed that rapist. He actually leaned over to me and said, "Daredevil doesn't kill!!" So, he really was disappointed in the movie. I was too, there was too much lead-in and then suddenly it was over. Character development was almost nil...and how can they kill off Elektra? She's a member of Marvel's version of the JLA (I forget what it's called...Freedom League or something my dad said) Everything else I could say has already been said, but what is Stan thinking with this whole "Dark Hero" crap that they started back in the '90s?? Why can't heroes be heroes and villians be villians instead of blurring the lines so much? That's the whole reason I quit buying comic books. Incidently, if any of you know where I can get my hands on some of the Golden and Silver Age comic compilations I'd love to know.
