Kevin Trotter Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 I have been rewatching ST DS9 on dvd via my netflix account and have been suprised to find it has held up much better than ST:NG.The stories seem stronger and the episodic approach (no doubt influenced by the superior Babylon 5)have forced me to conlude that DS9 is a better series that Next generation. any opinions to support or reject out there?
quantum Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 I liked ST:NG better overall because of the variety; different locations, varied adversaries, and space ship skirmishes. I always loved when Sisko took the fighter craft(can't remember the name) out for a battle.
LordDavid Posted August 18, 2003 Report Posted August 18, 2003 ST:DS9 is my personal favorite Star Trek series. Especially towards the end with massive fleet battles of hundreds of ships! That 'fighter craft' is the Defiant, an awesome ship!
Guest $iLk Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 The Dominion War was awesome. Excellent actors such as the guy who played Weyoun made it worth watching...
Kevin Trotter Posted August 19, 2003 Author Report Posted August 19, 2003 Couldn't agree more $ilk. The guy you're talking about is Jeffrey Coombs, a B-movie icon who has played in such classics as Reanimator. I also like the guy who plays the Cardassion tailor and Armin Shimerman who plays Quark. I also have a soft spot in my heart for Gul Ducat (Marc Alaimo). As much as I liked ST:NG its looks a little hokey and dated watching the older episodes. I also feel that DS9 benefited from having in some respects to compete with Babylon5. I really feel the space battles in the Dominion War are derivative of the B5 scenes. Just my opinion.
Emmett.hendrick Posted August 19, 2003 Report Posted August 19, 2003 The battle scenes in DS9 rocked! Sky are doing re-runs at 6am over here at the moment and this mornings episode was when the defiant retook DS9. The scene where the Defiant is skimming along the hull of the dominion/Cardassian ships while being chased and simultaneous shooting down a Jem Hadar fighter is just soooooo cool
Guest $iLk Posted August 20, 2003 Report Posted August 20, 2003 Quark, Gul Dukat, Garak, and Weyoun were my favorite characters. I didn't like the Bajoran religious tie-ins to everything, but that's just my opinion. Jake Sisko was a stupid character, and served little purpose other than to annoy everyone.
Bandus Posted August 20, 2003 Report Posted August 20, 2003 Jake Sisco was a pansy. I loved DS9 more than any other Star Trek series. The stories really had substance. I am looking to buy a few of the seasons of it on DVD soon.
Kevin Trotter Posted August 20, 2003 Author Report Posted August 20, 2003 Poor Jake, however he did serve the counterbalance of the idea that every kid wanted to be in Starfleet. I like that he din't want to go into the family business. I also liked his friendship with Rom who was sort of a Ferengi "Eddie Haskell" (Thats a Leave it To Beaver refernce for those of you without Nick at Nite) Also I think the episode where Jake and Ben were stranded in a solar powered windship was pretty good.
