Late Night at the Movies: Garden State

Wow. Just... wow.

When the credits started to roll I just sat in the seat, stunned into silence, reflecting on the magnificence which I had just beheld. Eventually, and with much preponderance, I turned to my friend and said "Dude, that was the most f***ing beautiful movie I have ever seen."

No. Really. Garden State is simply incredible and if Zach Braff doesnÔÇÖt walk away with one or more Oscars for this film than itÔÇÖll be a bloody crime against art. ItÔÇÖs like a cheery Donnie Darko or Adaptation without the car crashes. Ignore the critics who say nothing happens, theyÔÇÖre retards. This is a movie about life. About the wonders of living and new experiences and the insane and beautiful abyss that is love.

Braff has constructed a marvelous story where there are no villains, no gunfights, no CG, and no big twist. For these characters the conflict is all internal, just under the skin, and yet each actor conveys their inner turmoil with so much skill that you simply surrender to them and the surreal dreamlike worlds in which they live. Each has found their own little heaven ÔÇô no matter what anyone else thinks, they have life, and it is good.

See this now. You wonÔÇÖt be disappointed.
