Stills from the DOOM movie

Except the movie is apparently not set on, or anywhere near, Mars - and does not deal with demons from hell - but, guess what, space Zombies. That's right, an experimental virus (*gasp*! The originality!) gets lose on some sort of space test facility and turns the crew into space zombies. Uwe Boll may have merely produced this one, but it's still gonna stink like a ten-day-old carcass.

The plot is so freaking GAY that it makes me want to puke. How could any producer etc knowingly rip of (completely) a movie and plot that has already been done TWICE.

Its called Resident Evil.

It is totally and completely unacceptable and pathetic. This is how unorigional movie studios are ruining hollywood.

Seriously how could you blatantly Rip off someone elses well known work and stick a doom tag on it? when its got nothing to do with Doom??

These people need to be jack slapped multiple times.

Another thing.

Every time a movie studio has the guts to stay true to the story and be faithful to the origional project of what they are doing they score a ton of cash. examples are X-men, LOTR and a few others. Some liberties were taken but faithfullness to the origional was strived for.

Yet hollywood instead ignores that and continues to push out one "reimagined" or "reinvented" piece of trash after the next. They always get horrible reviews, tank, become an embarrasement, and are never heard from again.

its freaking mind -boggleing that the obvious is so freaking unobvious to these people.

Just make a true represenation of the origional material and you will score with the fans. Write a decent script and you will pull in the critics, and in tuen draw in some new blood.

This show however is "doomed" to be a dismal embarassment before it even gets started.

yeah but a Virus that goes out of control and makes Zombies and special military people go it to take care of it.

This is a little toooooo identical to RE.

Think of it this way. If they were not calling this Movie "Doom". which has nothing whatsoever to do with the actual Doom licence... Would you even be giving it a second thought? It would be nothing more than another "Alone in the dark" or low budget SCi-fi clone flick that is nearly straight to Video.

Change the name to "Mutant Virus" and what would you opinion of it be? How is calling this movie "Doom" less deceptive than making a LOTR movie except its about a family of Frogs living on a pond.

Look, I have to say something here. Doom was a fun game, it was not literature. Now I'm not saying that the studio's solution to that problem isn't derivative, it is, and it's kinda lame I'd agree. However, let's not kid ourselves that Doom is in the same class as LotR and X-Men (and similarly adapted movies) which started life as stories first, not as games whose storyline was an excuse to get level after level of bloodsoaked pulse-pounding action. Could a game have a good story? Of course. Did Doom? HAHAHAHAHAHAAA! Seriously, that would be a really stupid thing to be a purist about.

Thanks Zane my thoughts exactly. Jeez you'd think he was adapting Jane Austen into a porno or something..its a fricking game!! A game where the story wasnt all that great to begin with. Cant we wait till the movie actually comes out?

True, very true to all of the above. This does beg a few questions however. Has creativity reached the wall? Has everything under the sun been done before? I'm sure a lot can agree also but I've pretty much seen, heard or read everything under the sun. That might be the problem also. Between the news media, hollywood and TV, I don't think there's anything left to touch upon that any of us have not seen before. But I'd say so far we are still somewhat safe since we haven't seen yet movie takes on things like LAND OF THE LOST or H.R. Puff n' Stuff, The Banna Splits, The bugaloos or Sigmond & The Sea Monster. Okay, Okay stop. Don't give them any ideas!

The movie will also not have references to 'Hell' or anything religious. All the 'monsters' will simply be genetically engineered humans.

Not seeing it myself.

I think it could be better if this film's story was developed from the original Doom background, and not based on viruses. I don't know why they have done this. I mean, we talk about censure but in Roman Polanski's "The Ninth Gate" you see a man actually """flirting""" (excuse the multiple quotes, but they're needed) with some kind of demon. Maybe because they're going to sell it to the mass (children included). I'm very sad.

Another thing: there's a Dr. Carmack between the characters. Is it a homage? I think it'd be a better one not to corrupt the background. It's like another film: Brian Yuzna's "Faust". It's said to be based on Goethe's classic. Yeah ... I was going to see this one... Better re-install Doom II.

man if they did doom with its original background, the whole church (mainly catholicism) community will be up in arms... all they need to smell is the words "satan" and "hell" in the film and theyll be all over it like a fly on a dung heap.

not gonna happen anytime soon

How do you figure that? There's plenty of those kind of movies around. In Doom, as in most of the rest, hell takes an ars whooping.

You mean no "hell" movies like

Constantine

Hellraiser

The Ninth Gate

Spawn

Event Horizon

And others?

You are right. You just cant make a movie about "Hell" and have it be successful in some fashion now can you. Especially one about "Hell" getting a whoupppin from the Military.

You guys are right though. Its not really a big deal.

And SC is right its Got MR. Rock in it. Which means it has a 90% chance of being pretty entertaining. The only movie of his i have not liked was walking tall. Which was just boooring for some reason. The rest have been great.

...and Resident Evil has Milla Jovovich, and End of Days had Arnold Swarzenegger. Big names means exactly bollocks any more. I wont see it an I hope it fails miserably. Even better if it ends the Rock's career.

My problem isn't so much with the 'story' - it's with a) the setting and B) the license. Because this is a DOOM licensed movie, a proper movie will never get made. It would have been better if it were merely 'inspired by' DOOM. This has about as much a chance as the Street Fighter movie did. These people have zero faithfulness to the source material and it's insult to anyone who ever played the game. They are offending exactly the people for whom they should be making this movie!

Dear heavens Scriv, because this is a doom licensed movie, it was doomed from the beginning (if you'll pardon my pun). Faithfulness to the source material is what will GUARANTEE it makes the trash heap because you can't pay for the cost of the movie if all the people who played the game went to see it--twice.

Your problem IS with the 'story' because you're telling us it's an "insult to anyone who ever played the game." What was so great about demons on mars? It's patently ridiculous as a story concept, but we played it because it was a lot of fun to blast the crap out of stuff, and if twelve year old kids had to blast the crap out of something, better something that perhaps had it coming (and who wouldn't blast a demon if one had the means and opportunity?). It was the second major FPS title after Wolfenstein 3D for heaven's sake!

Get a grip guys, I'll agree that they're lifting a title and using it in a way that wasn't similar to what it originally was, but that doesn't mean it's "offensive" and that they should make the movie for the puritanical fans of this great "legacy of all gaming."
