The only problem you get like 4 coins in your pocket and your pants are going to fall down. That of course does not happen with the paper dollar. You can have 50 paper bills in your pocket, other than the bulge in your pants, they are still lighter than 4 dollar coins. There's only one coin I cannot abide and I thought they took them outa circulation when they made the new dollar coin and that is the Susan B coin. What a piece of crap designing that was it's just like the quater!! I wonder how many people have lost that coin when using it as quater instead of the dollar. The reason why I bring up the Susan B is that it keeps sneaking in from time to time as change with the new dollar coins in the Metro Card machines. There's nothing like starting your work day with a Susan B to put you in a good mood.

I can lose five pounds by emptying my pockets. I have wallet, checkbook, change, bills, knife, cellphone all in my Dickies. Jeans are are about the same. I collect all sorts of money. I'm not an avid fanatic about it but I collect the state quarters in the Whitman's blue book. I have a penny collection but kind of let that slide lately. I have several older (70's up) half dollars and old style dollars. I agree; four of those monster would drag anyone's pants down. I love Bi-Centennial quarters and save every one I run across. I have one current gold dollar and a bunch of Susan B's. I have several hundred dollars in old style bills spread across several denominations. Just show I can show my grandkids. (Gotta get started on kids first though) And last but not least I have a few proof sets of coins. My dad started buying them for me for Christmas a couple years ago and has become a tradition. I have even registered at the www.usmint.gov web page. I think the gold still helps because aren't they the same size as a Susan B? Reduced from the old style monsters but just a little bigger?

You know I'm not quite sure as to the Susan B size to the new dollar coin. I do think the new dollar coins is slightly bigger. I'll check that out the next time I get the bugger.

The fondest times I remember are when my father used to bring home a pocketful of pennies and I would go through them to add to my collection. They are also redesinging the nickel. New backs I think.

Now they can stop pricing things like $2.99, $49.99, $99.99 $999.99 and use the real pricing of $3, $50, $100, $1000!! Give me paper money, I can fold it, I can hide it, I can put it in my shoes, I can put it in my shirt pocket, and I make paper airplanes out of them. Give me paper money. Dollar coins are great novelties, I give them to my kids for the Tooth fairy, but other then that, YUCH!!!

Just like gasoline is always priced to the .009 of a gallon. 1.699 x 10 gals = 16.99 per 10 gals and not 16.90 per 10 gals which is what most people think when they only look at the "BIG" numbers. Ever notice that last .009 is always small? I just can't help thinking of other currencies that are figured to the hundrenths or thousandths like some Asian currencies. 1/100th of the base denomination (dollar) seems simple. If you're going to get rid of a coin get rid of the freaking nickel. Hehe too big for its value.

Epsilon 5 Posted March 14, 2004 Report Posted March 14, 2004 here in canada we have 1 dollar and 2 dollar coins .. the 2$ ones being ~10 years old at most. Some of the stuff that we heard about was to use plastic or laminated paper dollars like they do in Australia and the removal of the penny. Almost every year they are adding or reinforcing the security measures on paper dollars to fight the spread of fake money ..

In my reply to LostInSpace I said hundredths or thousandths when I should have said thousandths or hundreds of thousandths when talking about some asian currencies. Having the dollar broken into hundredths (the penny) seems simple by comparison. Epsilon5: We have a $2 bill. Coolest bill we got in my opnion. But no slots for them in cash registers because people don't use them. They are mainly collectibles and gifts.
