LostInSpace Posted January 19, 2005 Report Posted January 19, 2005 Voice of America: The first criminal charges linked to alleged corruption involving the United Nations' oil-for-food-program in Iraq have been filed against an American who has pleaded guilty to accepting payments from Saddam Hussein's government. The case is just the start of what could be multiple criminal investigations into how a program meant to help the Iraqi people was corrupted. An Iraqi-American that is. quote:An independent panel appointed by U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan to look into what he has described as "serious allegations" is expected to release its findings as early as this month. In addition, multiple congressional investigations into the scandal are under way. Some in Washington have even called for the secretary general resign over the matter.Doesn't sound too independent to me. Let the head rolling begin. To those who said give the sanctions more time . For what? These people to profiteer more. [ 01-19-2005, 01:50 AM: Message edited by: LostInSpace ]

ThatÔÇÖs probably why the US military boarded and confiscated cargo of any vessel that even hinted at being smuggled material, so they could be seen as turning a blind eye.

THis was all Iraqi money, it had nothing to do with a US budget, so NASA wouldn't have had to do anything about it..... You guys sure do get confused sometimes....
Guest DocHoliday Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 Well, this is US money (I won't even go into who's it really is, given the US's huge foreigh debt), that was channeled in to put up the new gov't. I don't think they'd make a lot of fuss about it otherwise...
