U.S. condoned Iraq oil smuggling

I'm going to be fair and post this to those on the other side of the table. I don't know how credible or legit the documents are (citing the Dan Rather scandal) but here's the report:

(CNN) -- Documents obtained by CNN reveal the United States knew about, and even condoned, embargo-breaking oil sales by Saddam Hussein's regime, and did so to shore up alliances with Iraq's neighbors.

Agreed. It doesn't surprise me either.. It's also perfectly understandable. Not to do anything about it, is also a (strong) diplomatic move in this case.. Even though it can be seen as "corrupted" or even to "let the other side win"... IF, as you said the info is legit. I think it's just taken out of context and will be made to embarass Condy

In the real world fancy statements that aren't exactly equal to, but go along the line that "US doesn't negotiate with terrorists", can't really hold up even though it'd be nice if it were true, because the complexity of world afairs makes it impossible.

News like this though, quite effectively destroy US's integrity, especially abroad, so the next time a US official will say something like this the response might be.. well laughter..
