Christine O. Gregoire. Officials said the check was cut Friday as Chelan County Superior Court Judge E. Bridges signed a final order to dismiss the Republican challenge, affirming a ruling he issued June 6 that upheld the election results. Democrats had asked the judge to award nearly $48,000 in court costs for defending the election challenge and said they spent nearly $3.5 million in overall legal costs. But the two sides reached a settlement requiring the GOP to pay just $15,000. "It's a business decision," state GOP chairman Chris Vance said. "If we had gone to court and fought over it, our lawyers said we might win or we might lose. Everybody who's ever been sued faces that question: Do you want to take the risk or settle?" Gregoire, a Democrat, won by 129 votes in a hand recount after Republican Dino Rossi finished ahead in the initial tally and again in a machine recount. Rossi and party officials have said they will not appeal Bridges' decision upholding Gregoire's election. "It's nice to have one final document because that is likely to be the last word on election contests and the standards for governing election contests for a long time," said Kevin Hamilton, a Democratic Party lawyer. Hamilton confirmed Monday that a settlement had been negotiated on court costs and that the check had been delivered. Guest Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 Oh yeah, it torqued me off BIG time. The questionable votes were WAY beyond the margin of victory. This judge had all kinds of prior cases to fall back on to nullify the election and call for a revote. King County was a screwed up mess, and of course it is run by Democrats. The number to illegal votes was INSANE!! What REALLY torqued me, is that the John Kerry campaign LENT the Washington state Democrat party the money for the hand recount. If they hadn't, there would have been NO way that the Washington Democrats could have afforded the hand recount. I have discussed it PERSONALLY with a few legislators in the state legislature and senate, and next term, there will be a bill intorduced, that ANY and ALL money for a State election hand recount, MUST come from WITHIN the state. NO outside money will be allowed. Queen Gregoire STOLE this election through fraud, and it will NOT happen again.

If the people of this state do NOT care enough to pay for a hand recount themselves, then a hand recount should NOT happen, and the people of washington did NOT care enough to pay for it, barely 10% of the money for the hand recount came from within the state. That is why the Kerry campaign jumped in and lent it to them. Oh, and then the Democrats told the state that they not only wanted the money back, because if you win, the state eats the hand recount itself, they DEMANDED 12% interest on the money.... Happens to the best of us. Off Topic..... Actually, I'm surprised I'm not running amuck around here. With a new super mouse for my computer and having three teeth pulled on saturday and I've been stoked up on codine for the past couple of days (probably why I've been so verbose). Yeah, I've been a bad boy letting my teeth go for some time now. Back on Topic..... Anyway, nice work with the legislators. I don't know what I find scarier in this issue, the fact that the election was stolen and the GOP had to pay for it in more ways than one, The GOP backing down or what the Lawyer for the democrats stated. Ah, make it all three.
