GulfLive: FAYETTE, Ala. (AP) ÔÇö Lawyers for a 20-year-old man accused of killing two police officers and a dispatcher said Tuesday that their defense case would involve post-traumatic stress disorder and testimony about video games.

Defense attorney Jim Standridge made the statements as jury selection continued in the capital murder trial of Devin Darnell Moore, previously referred to as Devin Darnell Thompson. Judge James Moore, along with lawyers for the prosecution and defense, said the defendant would be referred to as "Moore" because he had legally changed his name, although his driver's license identified him as "Thompson" and he was charged under the name.

Moore is charged with six capital murder counts on three different charges in the deaths of Fayette officers Arnold Strickland and James Crump and dispatcher Leslie "Ace" Mealer in June 2003. He pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of serious mental defect.

While questioning jurors Tuesday, Standridge said his client suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) brought on by abuse and neglect as a child.

Standridge also asked jurors if they or their children played video games and said testimony about video games would play a part in the trial.

Moore allegedly told jailers that "Life is a video game. You have to die sometime," after stealing Strickland's gun, fatally shooting the three victims and leading authorities on a high-speed chase in a stolen police car. He allegedly took the gun while being booked at Fayette Police Station on a stolen auto charge.

The judge called an unusually large jury pool after the case received extensive media coverage. Potential jurors met for a second day Tuesday in the auditorium of Fayette's Civic Center because their numbers exceeded the courthouse's capacity limit.

well you know maybe the cop shouldnt of worn a badge... if you can let someone whos supposed to be restrained steal your sidearm... well that tells alot. also the fact that he got out of the police station alive is just amazing.

i feel sorry for the cops families... i truly do, but man you cant treat any type of arrest or traffic stop as routine nowadays... jesus complacency leads to death 9 times out of 10.
