My wife just saw on CNN that Chief Justice Renquist died tonight. Odd that I haven't found it on the web yet.

Another reason to drive me away from following the soap opera on Capital Hill. It would be interesting to see how he's going to handle the "Chief Justice" position. It would take 3 hearings if he were to try and name Scalia to chief justice. Only 2 hearings if he were to name an outsider.

I am a Dem and this one area I admit we stand on shaky ground. The President selects the Supreme court. Had we won we would select the best candidate for the party and country we could get vetted. The Republicans....(choke)...won and have the right to do the same. I am an American and that is how the system works. Nuff said.

The Democrats stand on shaky ground anyway. As much as people hate Republicans, you're kidding yourself if you think that makes them love Democrats.

I'd really LOVE for either party to lay out a POSITIVE plan for America and enact it. Instead of slinging mud at each other.

I'd like to see the DNC implode and a 3rd party rise up to wipe out the GOP.

Silk - have you ever done a study on the history of third parties in America? It's quite a fascinating study. Our system almost seems pre-ordained to remain a 2-party system.

A REAL third choice would be nice, but I don't think it'll ever happen.

Do you REALLY want to know how a Viable thrid party can be created?

Vote Republican, and vote Republican ALL the time, as the Dem's are voted out of office, the Dem party begins to IMPLODE, then, as the Republicans move left, create a party that is to the RIGHT of the Pubbies, and SHOVE them to the left. THEN, what you get, is the Dem's moving to the Republican party, which is to the right of the OLD dem party, and the republicans will move to the New party, which is even FURTHER right then the Pubbies.

BUT, you HAVE to destroy one of the parties first, and the ONLY way to do that, is to vote for the other one.

The Dem's are the WEAKEST, and they are also to the left of most of America, you destroy them, the Republicans become the LEFT wing party, and then create a RIGHT wing party to replace the old Pubbie party, because the pubbies have replaced the dems, and you have just moved the ENTIRE center, TO THE RIGHT....

The current parties are too institutionalized for this to work imo. Democrats would vote Democrat if Satan himself ran. Republicans would vote Republican if a Kennedy ran on the ticket. And the same number of people who abstain from voting every year due to "disenfranchisement" (what a word!) would continue to do so. It appears we have an unbreakable paradigm all around. Your method would work, but there's no chance of it happening.
