CBS News' 60 Minutes profiles the Oscar-winning actor on Sunday, Dec. 18, 7-8 PM ET/PT. ÔÇ£YouÔÇÖre going to relegate my history to a month?ÔÇØ Freeman asks Wallace. After noting there is no ÔÇ£white history month,ÔÇØ he says, ÔÇ£I donÔÇÖt want a black history month. Black history is American history,ÔÇØ he tells Wallace. The notion of a special month for black history may be hurting rather than helping efforts for racial equality, Freeman believes. When Wallace wonders whether racist attitudes may be harder to eradicate without the education that Black History Month provides, Freeman retorts: ÔÇ£How are we going to get rid of racism? Stop talking about it!ÔÇØ Freeman believes the labels ÔÇ£blackÔÇØ and ÔÇ£whiteÔÇØ are an obstacle to beating racism. ÔÇ£I am going to stop calling you a white man and IÔÇÖm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man,ÔÇØ he says. ÔÇ£I know you as Mike Wallace. You know me as Morgan Freeman. You wouldnÔÇÖt say, ÔÇÿWell, I know this white guy named Mike Wallace.ÔÇÖ You know what IÔÇÖm saying?ÔÇØ Freeman, who won his first Oscar for his role in ÔÇ£Million Dollar BabyÔÇØ last year, also discusses his acting career and his several Academy Award nominations, his love of sailing and a more recent hobby, piloting a plane. Morgan Freeman is one of my favorite actors, I just love his films, and after this, I am gonna buy EVERY one of them. He's absolutely right.... I believe that making a month, or whatever for something like this, separates us, it does NOT bring us together.
Soback Posted December 16, 2005 Report Posted December 16, 2005 Yeah, I've met the guy. He flew in in his own light twin Piper, so I had a chance to chat and take a picture with him. He is a great actor and seems like a great human being. He talks and treats other people with respect and is well composed, something that is rare among the celbrities crowd (Lopez for example is a complete @$^%^%, she has no respect for anyone, the saying "you can take a girl out of the trailer park, but you can't take the trailer park out of a girl" has never sounded more true when applied to her. Nothing but un-educated, dumb, beligerent trash with money). Anyway, back on topic. Morgan Freeman is an awesome, well rounded, intelligent individual. One would expect something like this to come from him and highlights the difference between an educated black man and an idiot Jessie Jackson. Man like Morgan Freeman strike fear into Democrats and Liberals. If the black people that live in poverty ever stop listening to the garbage Jackson spews out and start listening to intelligent successfull man like Freeman, there goes thier voter base.
