Terran Marine Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 For those of you who want a free MMORPG try Roma Victor. It is a MMORPG set in Roman times, 180 AD to be precise. Here is a link http://www.roma-victor.com/
Epsilon 5 Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 hmm somehow it feels like the perspective isn't correct, and the skybox .. is really a box. feels messed up. Nevertheless - they say they are still under development for at least a year, and alot can change. (shameless plug) I've been following the development of Pirates of the Burning Sea , a mmorpg set in the early 18th century in the carribeans, and it already started to produce results. Release1 is set to be due out Q1 '04, but i somehow doubt it. Won't have everything but more than enough to make the game work.
Eclipse Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 it has a nice texture for the sky right now.
Alacard Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 Looks interesting, though travel times might need some work. Project Entropia seems to be implementing a novel way to pay for online gaming; you can purchase money ingame using real dollars, to the tune of 10 PED (Project Entropia Dollars) are equal to 1 USD (U.S. dollar) and the majority of transactions are taxed. Rather novel marketing idea, imho
Bandus Posted January 5, 2004 Report Posted January 5, 2004 I'm very eager to play that Pirates of the Burning Seas game. I've been following that one too.

Rather novel marketing idea, imho the downside of that system is that you can't award money for actions unless it costs something to do, and character progress is very slow, because if it's too fast, the player is going to start MAKING money! (yes, in project entropia, you can extract money from the game) Also you end up with a community of players that don't share a penny, and the one with the most money IRL gets all the cool toys ingame. With money ingame having a real value, it removes the game part.
Whispers Posted January 6, 2004 Report Posted January 6, 2004 I was in the early beta of the Project Entropia... I may have come a long way since I was there (more than 18 mo ago) but it seemed to be having problems because the only way that the devs could make money was by planned obsolesence (everything you bought degraded WAY WAY too fast so that you had to buy another ) I left just before release (still think I might have like 10 or 12 $$$ in the kitty there. It certainly was a novel idea though. Some pll had dreams of becoming rich by playing online... hehe W
