Guest $iLk Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 Surprising not to see this mentioned so far... It's basic C from what I can gather... but generally well-commented and easy to follow except for a few parts where all hell seems to break loose. I've been programming in Delphi/Pascal for a while so I have to get a C refresher.
weegee_101 Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 My understanding is the parts where hell breaks loose were either previously ASM code or code that was hacked out in the last week of the deadlines. Its pretty good, and screams Carmack; its as good as his Quake 2 code, which is a fun little toy to play with. I'm excited as to see what comes out of this, I'm sure someone will use it to port doom again or something like that.
Guest $iLk Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 The tools that exist for it are extensive - that much is for sure. Wouldn't be hard to port Doom - assuming someone knows how to model the enemies 3D instead of sprites.
Eclipse Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 I'll have to look it up but there are people who have been updating and rebuilding the original doom and heretic games to use 3d models, lighting and such.
Guest $iLk Posted September 6, 2005 Report Posted September 6, 2005 The Doom Marine was in Quake III - but I don't think you can use him legally with the Source Code.
