RichardCranium
Ah, the things you learn. I had noticed from the last marine roam game that once I told my guys to guard something, I couldn't figure out how to get them to take orders from me again. Solution? Holster your weapon, select the marine in question via the PLV, and use the "follow me" gesture. The marine will salute and start to pay attention to you again. Rinse and repeat. We all jumped to an insurgent city where I told my squad to guard the DJP while I took out the two bunkers, hijacked the MFB and air defense missle system. I then told Kruger to attack one of the buildings. He ran over and shot all of his missles (no surprise there). I couldn't figure out how to get him to resupply at the local supply point; none of the TOM options seemed to fit. Then I thought that he might just do it on a friendly base. So we hit the DJP. He got caught in a traffic jam on the enemy side. When he finally came across and I found him, he was stuck on top of the bunker. I jet packed up there to see if I could get him to follow, but that didn't work. I then told Ramos to RTB then start guarding me. Those commands ended up with him stuck on top of a wall, bouncing up and down like a trampoline. I have screenshots but it appears that I need a URL to post them. Supreme Cmdr
NPC units can get stuck in the world and its unavoidable. As to the supply station, you have to tell them to use via the TOM menu. They used to do it on their own but it looks like I disabled it and made it so that you had to tell them to since they would usually just piss off and do it - usually right in the middle of a battle. Looking at the code, it seems as if a few versions back when I did this, I accidentally disabled the entire entry from the TOM menu which means that the Proceed to Supply Station order is no longer enabled. heh, nobody noticed. Anyway I'll see about putting it back in the next patch. Until then, if you are playing as a Cmdr, when you bring them back to the CC, they will automatically re-arm. Personnel have the ability to locate and use a supply station. The supply station must must exist in the current 3D world to be usable. A supply station is not usable if more than 6 units are already using or intend to use the station. A supply station is not usable if a hostile unit is using or intends to use the station. A supply station is not usable if more than 5km from the position of the person. Personnel currently do not go to a supply station of their own accord. They must be given an order to do so via the Tactical Orders Menu (TOM). The order is ignored if there is no suitable supply station. The person will then proceed to the supply station, stand at a vacant position, and orient towards it. The supply operation takes 10 seconds to complete. On completion the person is rearmed, healed, resupplied and the armour is restored. The person then resumes previous orders. Supply station use is implemented as a gesture. This means that you need to send the person the Escort Me or Defend Me order after using the supply station order. The supply station use is cancelled if an order is issued that sets the objective of the person.[/code]
Supreme Cmdr
See this thread for a Beta version that enables the supply station command. Let me know how it goes.
ouch
great! I could never get the game to give my medkits/repair patches to them like it says you can in the manual. I know at one time there was an order to to make them dock at targets. I also know there was some problems with this. But is there a any way to make at least the basics work? (get in, follow TOM (esc menu) orders and, get out...) Just seems like ground ops were one of lose ends that never got tied in UC. Its probably the main reason I'm disapointed this is the last one in the series actually...
Supreme Cmdr
great! I could never get the game to give my medkits/repair patches to them like it says you can in the manual. ..where exactly in the manual does it say you could do that? Just seems like ground ops were one of lose ends that never got tied in UC. Its probably the main reason I'm disapointed this is the last one in the series actually... You clearly missed the boat on that one. Either that or you missed the memo going back to the orginal UC in which it was made painfully clear that the game is not about ground ops and its just another feature that is there in order provide another aspect of immersion. See planet. Enter planet. Explore, mine, do combat on planet. Leave planet. You like it, use it. You don't like it, don't use it. Simple really - especially when you consider that no other space game in existence even comes close to doing anything like this and to this extent. In fact, scratch that - there is no game that does it, period.
ouch
well ok, you can't give the kits to them but it says you can use yours on someone else on page 74 (paragraphs 2 and 5). As of now it's just the fuzzy dice hanging on the mirror of the car...
Supreme Cmdr
well ok, you can't give the kits to them but it says you can use yours on someone else on page 74 (paragraphs 2 and 5). Works just fine. Well that's sorta my point, ground ops could mean much more to the game then it does now if all the loose ends were fixed. As of now it's just the fuzzy dice hanging on the mirror of the car... Its not supposed to "mean" anything nor compete with full fledged ground ops games. It is what it is and thats the way it is.
