Commander Zeke Stone Posted March 8, 2000 Report Posted March 8, 2000 Well I'm currently working on a movie that has a ship called the U.S.S. (Universal StarShip) Hawkeye, and I wanted to make it the largest and most powerful ship ever built by the human race. I approximated that it would take them 150 - 200 years to complete it. Here are the specs: Length - 147 km Width - 110 km Height - 20 km Mass - 5,390 GigaTons Max Velocity - 112 k/s Max Acceleration - 50 m/s2 Max Pitch/Yaw/Roll - 6 d/s Sheild Power - 100 GW Armour - Undecided Crew Compliment - Undecided Docking Bays - 1080As for it's weapons I'll just mention the two most power. The first is two lasers that are attached to each side of the ship like pontoons, they are about the same length as the ship itself and have enough power to obliterate an entire planet in a single shot. It takes from 30 - 60 min to charge the stabilizers, without them the weapon could overload or backfire and destroy the entire ship. The Second is Six Nuclear Warheads approximatley 12 km in length with about the same power of the asteroid that hit the dinosaurs. And that's not even the most powerful ship in the movie!!------------------ Commander Zeke Stone, TCS Guardian "Imagination is more Important than knowledge" [This message has been edited by Commander Zeke Stone (edited 03-08-2000).]
SpacePhish Posted March 8, 2000 Report Posted March 8, 2000 Hehehe..hmmm...what do you mean by MOVIE? You mean a Hollywood blockbuster? Can you get me a job or what? No just kidding, I don't want to slave my life away at some- Hollywood studio. Anyway your movie sounds cool! Keep me posted.
Commander Zeke Stone Posted March 8, 2000 Author Report Posted March 8, 2000 Yes I do mean a Hollywood Blockbuster if you wish to put it that way. You see I plan on being a Writer/Director. So I figure why wait until I'm done school, I'll just start writing now. Although I haven't gotten very far in the script for U.S.S. Hawkeye (Probably because I want it to be perfect, hehe) I have already written one book that is actually Fan Fiction and I am in the process of writing the first book in a whole new series that I may somehow link to my movie. Of course that is not the only movie I plan to write but that is the one I want to be known for.------------------ Commander Zeke Stone, UCV Guardian "Imagination is more Important than knowledge"

Supreme Cmdr Posted March 9, 2000 Report Posted March 9, 2000 anyone who takes 200 years to build a ship, deserves to be buried it in.
Commander Zeke Stone Posted March 9, 2000 Author Report Posted March 9, 2000 Oh and how long do you think it should take them to build a ship of that size? And could you also explain why you think it would take that long, because really I just estimated. I suppose I could try and compare it to different ships, because that's how I got it's mass. I compared it to the M1 Tank. ------------------ Commander Zeke Stone, UCV Guardian "There is no Honor in eliminating a weak oponent"
Steve Schacher Posted March 9, 2000 Report Posted March 9, 2000 quote: how long do you think it should take them to build a ship of that size? And could you also explain why you think it would take that long If you are trying to create a self-consistent sci-fi story, you have to start with some reasonable assumptions and project them into the future with plausible advancements. If you are creating a fantasy story, then you can make it up as you go along.Ask yourself what can happen in 200 years. The American Revolution was 224 years ago. How much has changed since then? If you started building a ship today (with today's technology), would the later components added 150 years from now be compatible with what you built today? Would what you built today still be a part of the ship 200 years from now?200 years is roughly 8-10 generations. Could a project like this sustain interest for that long? Why? How? I could possibly see it if you were creating an ark to preserve mankind from an impending disaster, but why would someone spend 200 years on a warship? Wouldn't the threat be more immediate than that?Just some thoughts...
Guest Nightweb Posted March 9, 2000 Report Posted March 9, 2000 Mm, well, if you got change society and the average workers back into serfs, you could keep at building stuff... some of the ancient worlds projects took several generations to finish.. Some of the pyramids are a good example.. The Hanging gardens supposedly never really were finished.. not to mention the wall of china.. But a starship of that size? What would be the purpose/want to build it? I see nothing short but mebbe a 'end of the world' thingy..Mebbe if a big space chunk heading towards earth and it will hit in 250 years would inspire us to build something.. =pBut this sorta sounds like that new 'anime' movie coming soon.. what is it? 3000 A.E (after earth).. They build this huge ship because the earth is gonna blow.. =pOk, just rambling on again.. *cough* Should go and do something constructive, but I feel lazy today.. just finished 3000 pages of translations.. uuuurrrkkk...------------------ Cmdr. David Foss Posted March 9, 2000 Report Posted March 9, 2000 Who knows, Steve? Maybe sensor technology has improved to the point where they can detect a threat that's 200 + years away? Best of luck, Stone. Can't wait to see it! I'm planning something similar, though I'm a ways farther behind than you. Steve Schacher Posted March 9, 2000 Report Posted March 9, 2000 My point about self-consistency is that if you have sensor technology that can detect a threat 200 years away, wouldn't you also expect to have other technology that would enable you to create a ship like this in less than 200 years?I'm not trying to criticize Stone's story, but he said that he just estimated and asked what might go into making for a long construction. I'm only suggesting that the reasons be plausible and consistent with the storyline that he is developing. On the other hand, I am no author and I have no experience in these matters, so my comments should be taken in their proper context: I'm just a guy posting on a BBS...Good luck, Stone, and don't let me discourage you in any way![This message has been edited by Steve Schacher (edited 03-09-2000).]
Chaos Posted March 9, 2000 Report Posted March 9, 2000 Instead of building the story around the ship, why don't you try building the ship around the story. It would be more plausible to start off with a good reason to build a huge ship and then decide just how huge it is going to be. The end of the world thing is a good approach but it has been done. If I had two-hundred years to get everyone off the planet because a giant asteroid was going to hit it. Hell, I'd just slap some big engines on old mother Earth and push her outta the way. Like everyone else this is just my opinion. Good luck on your movie!------------------ Cmdr Chaos Spectre Fleet ICV Banshee "Do it with a smile and a mad gleam in your eye." Guest aramike01 Posted March 9, 2000 Report Posted March 9, 2000 With advancements in technology being such as to allow the construction of such a vessel, perhaps they would also allow a bit more of an expediant construction. And wouldn't most of the ship be antiquated by the time of it's completion? I mean, my latest computer which I bought no more than three months ago is outdated. And then the question is: are you shooting for plausibility or fantasy?------------------ Cmdr. Commander Zeke Stone Posted March 11, 2000 Author Report Posted March 11, 2000 Well, I'm glad you guys posted these messages. They really got me thinking, something I like to do. You see at the first of my movie I am going to make it so it shows the origin of the human race. In my story humans originate from mars and have highly advanced technology. Problem is they are at Inter-Galactic war with a very powerful race called the Zimrat. The Zimrat destroy all the human starships and then direct an asteroid toward mars. The humans having little time build a ship with a crew compliment of 10 or so and send it to the nearest lifesustaining planet, Earth. The Zimrat think that they have defeated the humans for good, until millions of years laters when they detect the emence energy unleashed by the Hawkyeye. Anyways I was just going to make it so that Earth built this ship to explore the outer reaches of the Universe but you have inspired me to try to come up with something better. Oh and as for that new anim coming out, I was surprised to find it to be similar to mine but I assure you my idea for this movie was thought up well over a year before I heard of this anim. P.S. The name Zeke Stone is actually one of the characters in my movie, he is the Hawkeye's Tactical Officer. ------------------ Commander Zeke Stone, UCV Guardian "Never Give Up, Never Surrender" --From the writer of Galaxy Quest
Gallion Posted March 11, 2000 Report Posted March 11, 2000 Total waste of resources IMO. The race that would build a star ship of this size would have strip mine either a planet or an entire solar system to complete it. At 112k/s it would go no where fast.Increase size, mass, and gizmos would also increase power requirements proportionally. To make a movie or a story on this thesis, the author/writer/director would also have to make it believable. At least two of a three movie series have already told a simuliar story. No ship (planetary or star/space) is invulnerable. They are only as strong as the weakest link.Besides, every BC has 40 of Terra Firma's Ultimate Weapon - Infantry.TTFN und gooten lucken with ye project.
Guest Ron Wallin Posted March 11, 2000 Report Posted March 11, 2000 Stone, it's not who had the idea FIRST that matters. It's the one that publishes First. You are about 3 years late. The story line you propose exists in two movies released/being released, and countless books about the red planet.I'm not saying this to discourage you, just to give you the heads up (i.e., you're going to have to find some really FRESH perspective to get it sold).Good luck!
Commander Brett Posted March 12, 2000 Report Posted March 12, 2000 Its prolly gonna be one of those dude movies, like mission to mars....
Rattler Posted March 12, 2000 Report Posted March 12, 2000 Jumpin' JeHosofats! Comments like that don't belong up here! We should encourage artistic development, not slam it before it gets out of the gate, or forcast failure before it's even out of it's infancy! "Uncle Rattler" advises against doing such things in the future. Now will the proud Fleet Commander of Cmdr. Brett please step forward and be recognized. "Uncle Rattler" needs a word with Ya'! Commander Zeke Stone Posted March 12, 2000 Author Report Posted March 12, 2000 Well I had already thought up the resources and I was thinking maybe they took resources from a newly discovered planet in our system, like Planet X maybe, I think that is thought to be in our system. Oh and they wouldn't use the regular engines to get around, They would probably use some form of hyperspace or quasispace. Say what movies do you speak of Ron? I would have had this movie in the making already but I'm only 15 so I gotta finish school and then University before I can start Directing. If I wanted to, I could write the movie and send it to Hollywood now but I wish to Direct my movie personally. On another note before anyone questions me about the power it would take to get this moving. Well I figure when they go to Planet X or somewhere else, they discover these giant cyrstals that emmit enough energy to power an entire planet. So they grab a couple of these cyrstals and bring em back to good ole planet earth. P.S. Thanks Rattler------------------ Commander Zeke Stone, UCV Guardian "War is never won or lost, only fought"
Commander Zeke Stone Posted March 30, 2000 Author Report Posted March 30, 2000 I found out enough info on Planet X that I want that to be the planet they get their resources from. For instance, I discovered that they don't really know if it's a planet or not, they just know there is a strong gravitational pull in that area, they only assume it is a large planet. So of course if it was that large of a planet it would most likely have a lot of resources and if it is a mystery to science then they would most likely visit there.------------------ Commander Zeke Stone, UCV Guardian - "Never Give Up, Never Surrender"**War is never won or lost, only fought**
Guest Posted March 30, 2000 Report Posted March 30, 2000 Planet X is thought to be a brown dwarf... plenty o' matter if you can get to it =)
Avant Garde Posted March 31, 2000 Report Posted March 31, 2000 Brown Drawfs are basically stars with not enough matter to begin thermonuclear reactions within it's core. Also, the majority of their matter, as is with the rest of the universe, is primarily composed of hydrogen and helium and very little material you would use to build a warship of that magnitude. Then again, you haven't mentioned what exactly the Hawkeye is made of. I doubt however it's hydrogen. Of course, planet X really could be a terrestrial type planet, but it somewhat goes against the most accepted cosmic evolution theories to date. Anyway, Stone, I think what you should do on the future/fantasy front is just base all the technology on theoreticals; like power source could be zero point energy, armor composed of the vaunted neutronium, and stable cosmic wormholes as the form of space travel. I have a lot of other ideas that you might find interesting, but I think I've babbled on long enough **tapes mouth** ------------------ GCV-Transcendence Death before Dishonor
Commander Zeke Stone Posted April 2, 2000 Author Report Posted April 2, 2000 I'd like to hear some of your ideas if you wish to post them. I like the ones you have so far, and if I ever do make this movie I would be sure to put your name in the credits, although I'm not sure if that is your real name or not.Thanks------------------ Commander Zeke Stone, UCV Guardian - "Never Give Up, Never Surrender"**War is never won or lost, only fought**
Avant Garde Posted April 2, 2000 Report Posted April 2, 2000 Heh, well this isn't my real name Stone, before you try to flood too many ideas in, you should work out a storyline. From what I've read so far, your current plot is questionable. 1. If you expect the ship to be completed in 150-200 years, you're going to have to add in another century or so to construct a the space/dry dock to build and overhual that thing as well as spend the time to mine and refine the materials you need to build it. 2. Six 12km SLBM? These'll be a bit hard to reload Besides, what stops the enemy from launching the same type of weaposn at you? I do kind of like the two heavy lasers, but they're a bit on the overkill side; scale them down because I really don't see them being used more than once in the entire movie, unless the Zimrat have three or more of those big boats That way you can have Hawkeye cutting up small fleets. Hmm... I think I'm starting to model this after Macross... scratch that least idea hehe3. Why exactly did Earth build Hawkeye? This taking place millions of years after the destruction of the previous human civilization, would humanity still remember their old nemisis? Which brings up another question. If the previous human civilization was that advanced, why didn't they just destroy the oncoming asteroid? Just because mars doesn't have any remaining ships doesn't mean they can't fire weapons from the planet's surface to redirect the asteroid. Heck, we have the technology to do that now! The Russians have even built an anti-asteriod missile. I think it would be better if you just said that the Zimrat had their own big ship at the time and fired one of their big lasers and extinguished life on the planet. Ok, you've probably had enough of my critizing so I'll start throwing in suggestions. First of all, I think aramike's right about construction being much more expidient in the future. I think 50-100 years is a more reasonable time scale, so Hawkeye's technology doesn't get too outdated. Also, you haven't really stated where Hawkeye will be built, but I would strong recommend against Earth unless you want Earth blown up right after Hawkeye departs on its maiden voyage. Hm... Actually that wouldn't be that bad of a plot. Earth builds Hawkeye; activates Hawkeye; Zimrat detect Hawkeye and sends fleet to investigate; Hawkeye departs for X starsystem; Zimrat fleet finds flourishing human race on Earth and destroys it, and againt thinking they've annihilated humanity but leaves a probe so they don't make the mistake they did last time (These guys must have a pretty long grudge against us apes ); Hawkeye returns and finds decimated Earth; probe transmits Hawkeye's existance; Hawkeye searches for a new home away from the Zimrat for its crew to colonize and rebuild. Maybe.. maybe not... I'm going out now, so uh.. I'll think up some other things later. These are just suggestions btw! Don't take them too seriously, this is YOUR story, not mine.------------------ GCV-Transcendence Death before Dishonor[This message has been edited by Avant Garde (edited 04-02-2000).]
Commander Zeke Stone Posted April 4, 2000 Author Report Posted April 4, 2000 HAHAHAHAHA, you know how they say great minds think alike, well you basically just described the plot I already had in the making for the past year. Except in my movie the Hawkeye reaches earth before it is destroyed and fight off the remaining Zimrat ships. But the Zimrat leave a bomb powerful enough to destroy the entire planet, Hawkeye sends a crew down to disable it, crew stops clock at one sec, everyone sighs, then KA-BOOM the earth blows up. So then Hawkeye while searching for a new stumbles upon one of twelve to an ancient device of unparalleled power (I will not mention the specifics of this device yet). Your right about the time to build the dry and collect minerals, I had forgotten about that. Well wouldn't the enemy need to get aboard the ship in order to get the plans for the SLBM in order to launch it back, plus a 100GW might be good enough to protect the ship from this. Also the Zimrat ships (Not sure if I mentioned it's specifics before but) are not powerful because of size but because of numbers. They turn 601 ships into 1 giant cluster and when they attack they break apart. But the main lasers would only strike them as a cluster because as single ships they can easily out maneuver it. There are also two large laser turrets on the front section of the ship, 4 missle bays carrying a variety of missles, the largest being approximately 10m diameter and 100m length. Then there are hundreds off anti-fighter laser and missle turrets. They built the Hawkeye so the human race could explore the Universe, but secretly (without the publics knowledge of) armed it with the most state of the art weaponary known to man. No the humans do not remember they're old nemesis, they do not even know they're from mars until told so by the Zimrat. The story of their ancestors was lost with the flow of time. I don't know why they couldn't destroy the asteroid, I think I like your ship idea better, =] Finally I have not mentioned where the Hawkeye takes off because frankly I don't know yet. I'm decided between the Sahara Desert, the ocean, or space. I know, it can take off from long island, =]P.S. There are going to be about 30 different alien races in my movie "series" ------------------ Commander Zeke Stone, UCV Guardian - "Never Give Up, Never Surrender"**War is never won or lost, only fought** [This message has been edited by Commander Zeke Stone (edited 04-04-2000).][This message has been edited by Commander Zeke Stone (edited 04-04-2000).]
Commander Zeke Stone Posted May 4, 2000 Author Report Posted May 4, 2000 Great new idea I thought up. As some may know I was going to originally have a very large, very powerful pulse laser capable of destroying planets. Well instead I'm going have large clear domes covering the imidiate front of the ship. When they charge up you can see a sort of spiraling blue dust building up inside of them. It's blast is an enormous shockwave that spreads up, down, left and right. It will be sort of a clear shockwave but not invisible, sort of like glass but not as solid looking.------------------ Commander Zeke Stone, UCV Guardian - "Never Give Up, Never Surrender"**War is never won or lost, only fought**
