thanatos Posted April 24, 2000 Report Posted April 24, 2000 Reading the Relic Forum links in the previous posts of this thread illustrate classic examples as to why I've spent little time reading or visiting an on-line forum before coming into contact with the BC crew.Wouldn't it be interesting if all posts carried info as to age and education of the posting individual. "Flame" often seems to be just a self-serving word for less than mature verbal garbage, propagated by the relative anonymity of the Internet. Guest papamarx Posted April 25, 2000 Report Posted April 25, 2000 You kids are pretty funny with your talk of immaturity. Yes, the Homeworld boards suck, but seeing as how the game is still young (compared to BC3000) this can be expected. Honestly though, I couldnÔÇÖt care less about what the rest of you have to say, my argument is with your beloved Supreme Commander. Ironically, the self-appointed darling of this community, whose ass seems to get kissed more than the Dalai Lama around here, seems to be the most immature of all of you. Give his propensity for self-indulgent pourboire (which seems to be prerequisite in this industry) and his frenzied use of defensive censorship leaves him looking, sounding, and exemplifying a bereaved and defeated inside-joke. I am by no means alone in this impression, and yet you all believe he can do no wrong. Before you question my education, go read John Kennedy TooleÔÇÖs Confederacy of Dunces, for a bit of reference.
Guest aramike01 Posted April 25, 2000 Report Posted April 25, 2000 Who gives a damn about your education? The company one keeps is highly indicative of one's personality. We here prefer to share civil, respectful exchanges, although we don't always agree.Apparently you like to keep children as your company. Does that make you feel smarter? More powerful? Just curious...Secondly, you seem fond of telling us what we think. Hmmm, I'm not even going to get into that. So, tell me what your beef with Derek Smart is. Or are you here trying to get attention? And yet, BC Community, he dares to call us immature. Finally, I am compelled to ask what the point to this whole discussion is. You don't like it here? Why don't you do what most grown-ups do? In case your curious as to what that is, I'll give you a hint: LEAVE!------------------ Cmdr. Guest cynically_deranged Posted April 25, 2000 Report Posted April 25, 2000 Ok, first of all, Aramike, yeah, we have our percentage of young anf foolish idjits, and they probably did the lions share of pointless flaming against BC3K and derek Smart... On the other hand, most of the criticm wasnt directed directly AT the game, and what was dierected at the game was backed up by either the fact that they HAD played it, or the fact that it DOES appear to be an abysmal failure, since its been a long time since most of us have seen it for sale anywhere but the 10 dollar bargain bin. Now, I admit thats a little unfair, after all, its a pretty old game, but its still there. And most of the people who posted critical yet coherent comments about dsmart are certainly not teenagers, nor stupid, I should know, *I* am one of em. And Smart, if your going to complain about people posting non factualy drivel, you might wana get your story strait. "we lot" didnt come to your doorstep. You got one mail, from ONE of the thousands of registered posters at Relic.com. Big deal. Your answer to that was to show up in our forum, and post absurd generalizations about our average inteliligence and age. You called our favorite game a failure, which it isnt, and said it was a bed game even, which its not... Granted those are your opinions, and your welcome to them, but dont expect those of us who are neither stupid nor immature to sit around and let you call us so. Besides, have any of you yahoos ever even read a real sampling of the Relic Boards? Right now, the first few topics are: A belgian HW clan got started We like our one (verified) female poster cuz were nerds Some spanish guy is introducing himself to us some technical question about the HW programming A thread about Enders Game Something about new HW:Cataclysm screenshots A thread about cold fusion. General? sure! imature? Well, maybe just the one about Alariel. But its harmless. So please, yeah, you people are welcome to whatever opinion you care to have... but when your opinions deal with concepts like "everyone who posts on the relic board is an unintelligent dolt who's under the age of 16", without every doing at least a little research to see if its true, well, then your saying *I* am an unintelligent dolt whos too yound to drive, and that offends me. So dont act so supprised when I or peoplle like me come and defend ourselves. [This message has been edited by cynically_deranged (edited 04-25-2000).]

Guest cynically_deranged Posted April 25, 2000 Report Posted April 25, 2000 Wow... you guys are so clever. I belive that I mentioned the fact that that is probably unfair in THE NEXT SENTENCE. and I dunno what planet yer from there Aramike, but the last time I saw Homeworld in a store (last week) was right next to Freespace 2 for 35 or 40 bux. Im not saying THAT's a good reason to bag on BC3K. In fact, Im NOT bagging on BC3K. Im just defending HW and the people who post on the HW forums. Get a grip people.
Steve Schacher Posted April 26, 2000 Report Posted April 26, 2000 quote:since its been a long time since most of us have seen it for sale anywhere but the 10 dollar bargain binI should let Derek do this, but I'll jump in anyway...BC3K is in the $10 bargain bin by choice. It was intentionally published as a budget title as a daring gamble to get the title back out in front of the public in order to redeem the franchise after the Take2 fiasco.Prior to appearing in the bargain bins, it was distributed for free in all the PC game magazines. The bargain bin title is actually the 8th functional enhancement of the free title. Following the success of the bargain bin gamble, the title was picked up worldwide where it is not in the bargain bin.The fact that we are now talking about a new state-of-the-art version, along with a multiplayer online version, is a testament to the determination of Derek Smart and his entire development team. People respect accomplishments, and the people who resuscitated the BC3K franchise are respected by the people here. BTW, many of the old-timers here can claim to be a small part of the success too, since their devotion to the game, their constant playing, and their suggestions for new features (some of which were added in the previously mentioned functional enhancements) have made this more than just an off-the-shelf game. There is a little bit of each of us in this game, and the people here identify strongly with that.[This message has been edited by Steve Schacher (edited 04-25-2000).]

Guest cynically_deranged Posted April 26, 2000 Report Posted April 26, 2000 wow ... you guys have a real talent for ripping peoples posts up out of context and ignoring the main points I was trying to being up. I dunno why you people are getting all bent out of shape about the bagin bin thing. like I said, I already agreed that that isnt the best reason to bag on the game. Funny how I go out of my way to keep an open mind about all this, and you flame me for it. On the other hand, there WERE a lot of people who at least said that they played the game and still thought it sucked. Still, thats just their opinion, which they are entittled to. Just like your entittled to dislike HW. I dont care about that. On the other hand, the main point of my post, which you all have conviently ignored, was that the relic board posters are not the moronic juviniles you seem to assume. (at least not all of us). We have a degree of immaturity sure, but thats because we dont have Modernazis deletting everything that smacks of dissention. I like it that way. Free speach and all that. Besides, IMO, maturity is the excuse that bitter, tired people use too look down their noses at those of us who still know how to have fun. If I were to make stupid assumptions about the average mentality of a poster to this board just from this thread alone, I'd think you were all stuck up prigs. But I dont. I think smart made an ass of himself by stooping to the level of whoever invited him to the relic boards in the first place, but that doesnt reflect on the rest of you as far as Im concerned. I just thing you shouldnt run around belittling people whom you know nothing of. Im not running around belittling you on the relic boards... neither is anyone else. It would be nice if you could find some room in your hearts to extend the same courtesy. So.. now in the interest of making this conversation interesting again I have 2 questions. what are 3 reasons you think HW isnt a good game. What are 3 reason you think BC3K IS a good game? Im especially interested in the second question, cuz while Ive heard plenty of bad things about it from those who dont like it, all I've heard about it that was good was dsmart saying "you need the OTHER half [of your brain] to play [bC3K]". Which doesnt make it a good game, it just makes it a complex game. Now please... bag on HW all you want, I might not agree, and I might debate its virtures with you, but thats fine... but PLEASE stop the idiotic name-calling. your obviously not stupid people, so theres no reason for you to emulate the people on the relic boards I admit ARE stupid. Just realize that those arent ALL of us.[This message has been edited by cynically_deranged (edited 04-26-2000).]

Followed by..."I think smart made an ass of himself by stooping to the level of whoever invited him to the relic boards in the first place, but that doesnt reflect on the rest of you as far as Im concerned. "Your own words dude.So OK I lied. I'll reply to this one since it's such a well constructed post, but this all needs to drop and soon.3 reason why I don't like homeworld.1) I don't have any. I LIKE Homeworld. I think it's a great game. Best RTS along with Total Annihilation in my book. You should re-read the SC's post on Relic where he mentions that he liked Homeworld also. Why do I like BC3K? 1) It's the closest thing I've seen to a total emersion type gaming style yet. I myself (and I'm sure others here) like a game with infinite replayability that stays interesting and continues to surprise as opposed to having to shelf it after killing Boss X. 2 & 3 & 4 & 5...)http://www.bc3000ad.com/ubb/Forum9/HTML/000190.htmlThat type of gaming style is almost possible already in Battle Cruiser 3000AD, just take out the first person perspective the MP and the ability to only pilot/drive 4 units (BC, Shuttle, Intercepter, Tank or ATV as it's known in the game). Everything else (including nuking planets) can pretty much already be done. It's a huge game where YOU get to decide what you want to do while the world goes on in a relatively complex style. If you've read anything about a game called Terminous that's a scaled down version of what we've already been playing for quite a while (but you already know all this). Why is your forum so worked up over someone coming to it and posting how they feel after they had been invited over by someone from your own forum?? You've all taken such personal offense to his remarks for like what a week now? I'de really like to move on. I personally thought this would get worked out and we would have a new batch of fans here so I posted a "hello" message on your forum a week ago that got 1 reply. Yet you guys keep coming here and stirring up this topic. This message from me is a final attempt to clarify what's going on. If it doesn't work then screw it. You guys can keep posting here it doesn't change anything. And yes I checked out the Ritual forum, it's more like some sort of AOL chat room. One point WE'RE trying to make is that we can keep talking about THIS game for ages and never run out of new things to discuss. Your forum seems to be scraping the bottom for topics now (don't worry your not alone in the gaming world). Check out this thread, it's relatively new yet it still managed to surprise some of the old timers... http://www.bc3000ad.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000444.html So that's it. I have that "I shouldn't be wasting this much time posting." feeling which means it's true so I'm signing off, thankfully I can type fast. Looking forward to HW:C, I hope it gives everyone something to talk about Oh and BTW WHY DON'T YOU go out and buy the equipment, disk space and high speed network connection necessary to run a forum like this and let it fill up with discussions of chicks in chainmail (which in some ways isn't all THAT bad then you can start talking about free speach on your own forum. Every administrator has the right to run and manage their web space how THEY feel. It's known as "his money" and "his right to do so". It's also known as signal to noise ratio...

Guest cynically_deranged Posted April 27, 2000 Report Posted April 27, 2000 Hay, Im not saying you dont have the right to do so. Free speach should be more or less for everyone. I just dont like people making really broad sweeping derogotory(sp) statements that include me. And I think you were unfair to HW itself. Gallion : Why wouldnt you play HW in multi-player? Thats the best part of the game. Thats where you can really use all the stuff the game is capable of, and that where the REAL strategy is. Besides that, its one of the least laggy MP games Ive ever seen... so whats wrong with it? Vorpal : I dont have a problem with letting the name-calling and bickering die. That was my whole point in asking to 2 questions. To change the subject. *I* havnt really said anything bad about any of you I dont think, sept for dsmart maybe, but Im pretty sure he's man enough to take it. Besides, it was just my opinion, and only my opinion of his opinion at that. Which doesnt really give it any huge effect on the real world, becase whatsisface is right, they ARE like the A word and everyone DOES have one. All Ive done is defend myself, and some other who post on the relic boards who arent juvinile simpletons, but dont wana stir the fire by saying so over here. Oh, and sorry about yor welcome message. If Id seen it, I would have responded to it. So. Now that we've gotten past all of that (I hope), can someone tell me what stored ARE likly to carry this V2.0 BC3K thingie?
