Could Uncle Rattler, or some equally magnanimous soul give me a hint to the meaning of the following abbreviations I frequently run across while perusing the BC Forum?

1) *ROTFL*

2) *ROFL*

I feel like the guy who hears a funny joke, but just doesn't get it.

Sure Doc,

"Uncle Rattler" says that:

ROTFL = Rolling On The Floor Laughing

ROFL = Rolling On Floor Laughing

My All Time Favorite:

ROTFLMAO! = Rolling On The Floor Laughing My A%# Off!

Simple as that.

Maybe someone should put together a list of these symbols/abreviations for everybody that's interested.

Well, here's some of the stuff I use on a regular basis...

LOL - Laughing out Loud (or just used randomly for no apparent reason)

L33t - Means "leet" or more coherently, "elite". Basically used when I feel like saying something is cool in a lazy attitude.

Da - A random acknowledgement I use when I'm feeling too lazy/are too busy to just say "yes".

Phear - My way of saying "fear", be afraid when I say this, very afraid! smile.gif

Rgr - Used while in a game.. while some might think this means "roger", it more likely means "I'm too damn busy getting shot at right now to reply coherently, yell at me later!"

IMHO - In My Humble Opinion. I've got an opinion, so listen to me!

BRB - Be Right Back.... sometime within the next 4 hours (kidding).

BBL - Be Back Later

This may not be 100% understandable, or maybe it is, but hopefully it will help you, and everyone else after you comprehend and deal with the gaming community appropriately. If you need anymore explanations, don't hesitate to ask! smile.gif

Thanks for the info, gentlemen; your kindness is appreciated and your Moms should be proud.

I've been playing PC games for 15 years, but have not followed any gaming site posts with enough frequency or interest to absorb the lingo, as they seldom seemed to present a forum for any display of intelligence. The BC Commlink Forum has been a pleasant exception. I thought it would help to know what was being said even if I had to expose my naivety to ask the veteran commanders to translate.

I wish I would have gotten on-board a long time ago. I wonder how many other simmers are out there who still have not had seen the final version of this game, and even with BCM looming on the horizon, don't know what they are missing.

Gotta tell you Doc, it's nice to be among intelligent people such as yourself and the many other users here. Brings us back to the Homeworld deal. If this forum would in any way contribute to that type of nonsense, I had have been long gone.

Besides, don't feel bad. It took me to about a month after I first went online several years ago to realize that LOL is an acronym and phonics should be left at the door while online. wink.gif
