Upgrade time

Alright I'm planning to buy a motherboard and CPU combo this weekend to build a new pc. Is it possible to transfer my existing hardware on my other pc to the new pc I'm gonna assemble such as hard drive, cd-rom, etc? Anyway, here are the combo specs:

800MHz AMD Duron Processor with FIC Motherboard

-AMD Duron 800MHz Socket A Boxed CPU

-FIC AZ11 motherboard with:

-Via KT133 chipset

-1(4x)AGP: 5 PCI slots

-3 DIMM slots for up to 1.5GB of pc-133 memory

It's priced at $119 at Fry's Electronics! What a deal! Does the Duron processors perform equally well as the Athlon and also is it better than the P3 processors?

The Duron is the low-grade version of the athlon, like the celeron is to the p3. But the Duron beat the p3.

Yes. Are you running Win98? If so, make sure you create a start up diskette first as you will likely have to reinstall Win98 after you make the move. Win98 does not like to be moved from one system to a new one and simply won't boot. As long as you have the boot disk, your install CD and some time, you can get around this exciting feature in Win98.

Make sure that you can boot from the diskette and access your CD-ROM BEFORE you make the hardware move.

If you're running Win2000, make sure that you make a new emergency repair diskette before you begin the process. I've never done a hardware upgrade like this on a Win2000 machine so cannot give you any further insight there.
