ive been looking to get out of crosswinds for a year bud. They really fubar'd their stuff with those massive popups, their speed went down the toilet. Heck, they cant even get a simple ftp service to work..lol!

I'm already on Mifix, these guys are amazing. At this rate, they'll have to rename themselves BC-mifix...*grin*.

Hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

(no pun intended!)

Does anyone have experience installing and setting up Snitz 2000 forum? I'm trying to set it up on the mifix.net server, but the docs for the program are non-existant, and I'm not a programer!

Has anyone set up the forum already?

OK, I probably won't have any time to work on it till about thursday. I'll e-mail you with all the pertinent data as soon as I can spare the time.

Shingen, what's the problem? You'll find that it is usually something VERY simple when CGI scripts don't work as advertised.

OK,I have no idea what that means.. but as far the forum, I haven't really had the change to mess with it.

I tried to install snitz 2000 or whatever.., but I couldn't figure out where to put it on the server, or which files activated which program.

There were a bunch of *.asp files that had to be modified to run on the server, and I have NO CLUE, which file goes in which directory, or even how to modify the files. The Docs for the software appear to be non-extistent. Jaguar gave me some good ideas to check out.

Once I get a chance to play around with it, I'll figure it out.

What directories do you have?

How do files need to be modified?

If you have NO docs on this, pick a new program. Those ain't worth it, believe me.

Btw, considering that you have .asp files, you may want to find out what kind of server your host is using. ASP is a Microsoft thing, and if you try to use it on Solaris (Unix), you may have difficulties.

There are some linux webservers that claim to have a fairly clever piece of kit on 'em that allows you to use .asp there. Some screwed up javascript actually converts the .asp content into viewable java - or so they say. From what I've seen of it, it doesnt look all that hot, but I've not spent too much time playing around with it. Yet.

If you insist on using .asp, you need an NT or Win2K webserver for best results.

Mifix.net is a linux(unix) server that fully support cgi scripts and all SSI stuff. Proof: the www.mifix.net "homepage" is made out of cgi scripts.

Oh, and don't be scared by the look of the mavhine... it's working very well, that's the important.

Blades, I was tring to setup the same forum software that you are using on the Orion site.

Did you ever find any DOCS for the software?

Is the program even worth messing with or should I go find another forum to try?

Didn't it have a bunch of *.asp files contained in the ZIP file that you had to modify? And a *.mbd file? (or something like that...)

I couldn't figure out how to modify the files, or figure out where yo put them on the server, 'cause I couldn't find any DOCS! There was a measly read.me, but it didn't tell me a whole lot of anything.

Shingen, look for a file called "config" or something of that sort. Open it in your favorite plain text editor and the instructions are usually commented in the file itself.

The Orion forum is being hosted on a different webserver than the one I got my site hosted with. I didnt install the Snitz forum, I just set it up once it was online. I'll see what I can do about getting some more detailed documentation for you.
