Okay, ladies and gentlemen, I require of you a favour...

As you all know, one of my pet peeves is people registering with names plagiarised from other science fiction series or franchises. I don;t allow people with unoriginal names in my fleet.

Now that we have new Fleet Commanders in the ISS and they'll soon have "hiring and firing" ability, I'm looking at compiling a list of names that are used in other science fiction settings - games, TV series, movies, or books. I would appreciate your help in compiling such a list. I want people to list all names - of characters, and of ships - that are in use in these settings.

Actually, a lot of ship names are derived from Greek / Roman mythology etc. So don't get too pissed if someone happens to choose a name which has already cropped up somewhere. I nearly made a list of all the ship names, classes, wings etc which are common to many games, but gave up as I didn't own enough games to make it comprehensive.

Why can't you just warn the fokars that they CANNOT use ANY names from a science fiction work and be done with it. If they do, kick 'em out. No need to compile a list.

And don't worry about ship names -- a good portion of those are ships that currently exist and have existed in the past.
