CNN's Showbiz Today reported that Peter Jackson has said that the DVD release of FOTR will be a directors cut that is "a bit over 4 hours".

I do know a lot of the violence was trimed to get the movie into the PG13 rating. There are also quite a few scenes that were cut as well. Reports say the first "Jackson dream cut" came in at 4 3/4 hours and then NewLine had him trim it down to 3hr 50mi and then cut it again to its 2 hr 58mi theatrical version.

No confirmed date yet for DVD although same rumors say August.

Then after the DVD comes the offical waiting game for the second movie.

And so on and so on.

Talk about a love hate relationship

You are assuming that marketing won't convince whomever that the DVD should not be released until one day before The Two Towers is released.

No offence guys, but this is too good to be true. If the folks in charge are at all good businesspeople, they'll release a director's cut first, then, months later (in time for christmas!!!) the full, 4.5 hour long spiel...complete with lot's of still images and scanned images you can't read, and sell it for $99.98.

Erik, pissed off 'cuz that's what they are doing to Bladerunner DVD, Sebellin
