Supreme Cmdr Posted March 6, 2002 Report Posted March 6, 2002 Hell yeah. Buy it and find out Playing as a marine is the freakiest and scariest thing this side of dating your sister's ugly friend. And in MP only the talentless whimps use the Smartgun. Or so I'm told each time I show up toting one.
Epsilon 5 Posted March 6, 2002 Report Posted March 6, 2002 I'm back from playing the mp demo. [rant] I'm not impressed. (at least not yet) Graphics are nice, but not "cutting-edge". I'm not complaining either. Gameplay (mp) As a marine I get ripped by anything.. from lack of firepower, speed and agility. As an Alien, I can harly kill anyone, I usually just jump on 2 guys fightning close and use the element of suprise to frag 'em both. Maybe the alien has only melee weapons, but his abilities are cool. As a predator, I cloak but it seems it doesn't work very much. the plasma caster is not real impressive... I found myself camping on a dark corner... but I keep missing people because of lag... (teleportation...). I only like the spear weapon. Ihe different vision modes are a cool thing, but I can't find the use of the red mode. So as I say, only jumping on wounded/busy people as an alien gets me kills. I'll give the game a few more tries, since I only played for an hour or so, and the demo doesn't show all weapons. [/rant] 2000TH POST!!! W0000T!! Everyone open a can of pepsi/coke for me Btw, just curiosity... who has more posts that me? SC has... well... nearly 10k posts Aramike has 1950 posts Gallion has 2037 posts [ 03-06-2002, 14:20: Message edited by: Epsilon 5 ]
CommanderJohnson Posted March 6, 2002 Report Posted March 6, 2002 That game rocks! I bought it awhile ago, but been too busy playing BC and doing other stuff to play it. Being a Predator rocks in SP. Marines dont know what hit em. Keep on using that smartgun SC! They wouldn't have left it in the game in MP if it wasn't meant to be used to kill the people who call you a "talentless wimp". Remember, THEY are the ones getting killed by it. One vision mode is to target humans, one is to target aliens, and one is to target other predators (I think?). Be predator in SP until after the capture. You'll have the vision modes and weapon system usage down by then. Pain in the neck to get used to, but once you got it, life rules. (Sorta like BCM. Hard to get used to, but once you got it, life is GOOD) [ 03-06-2002, 14:16: Message edited by: Dredd ]
Guest $iLk Posted March 6, 2002 Report Posted March 6, 2002 Full version is much much better than the stupid MP demo. I'm a forum member over at aliensversuspredator.com and we have discussions of gameplay all the time. Check it out if you are interested. I usually play as a predator using nothing but wristblades and the combi-stick. People still ***** even though I'm using the Predators weakest weaps. Go to the forum and you'll see the "SC (shoulder cannon) is cheap!!!" threads.
Guest Grayfox Posted March 7, 2002 Report Posted March 7, 2002 oh ya. people ***** about the shoulder cannon all the time. if you look at it, it is kinda cheap like the smart gun. you target and press the trigger then watch your target get wasted i am the bomb with the combi stick (or spear as i call it) ill do a huge jump and come down with a power swing and just rip someone to shreds lol. but the marines do have some kickass weps... especially the smartgun even though its cheap. the gatling rocks, and the shotgun is powerful as hell too. practice will get you proficient. in all the team DM games i play, the aliens usually win. the runners are the quickest things there are (and they pounce), and the predaliens are the toughest. If you get someone who knows what theyre about playing the alien, look out. but that goes for any character. the more rooms i goto nowadays, the more i see that im the only pred the key to the aliens is, they can see everyone... humans and invisible preds. their downside is they only have melee weapons, but their pounce attack is so powerful its a definite equalizer no matter tho... just means more kills for me and trophies [ 03-06-2002, 19:04: Message edited by: Grayfox ]
Supreme Cmdr Posted March 7, 2002 Author Report Posted March 7, 2002 pah, aliens, especially predaliens are NO match for my CQB boomstick (aka shotgun). In fact, I've never, ever gone below 5th position on ANY server I've played on. And I always play marine in mp. Never play any other class. I like being scared outta my wits. The only complaint I have about AvP2 is the lack of co-op play. Man, I'd just love to go on a mission with my human marine team. Also, no in-ship maps. I absolutely loved the Aliens game which used be over at gamestorm.com back in the old days. Man, that was a blast. [ 03-06-2002, 20:14: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ]
Akuma Minako Posted March 7, 2002 Report Posted March 7, 2002 *opens a can of Pepsi for Epsi* Haha get it? Anyway, AvP2? You mean *gulp* it's scarer than the first? I mean, Foss got this thing where the tracker thing (sorry I'm not too good with technical terms) beeped like in the movies and I started crying and acting all wussy afterwards I mean holy crap was that freaky! 'course he was playing a friend who was in the same house at the time but on a different computer and it was halarious to play with their minds... I turned off the lights...and just when there were about to attack eachother...And the beep was beeping faster and faster I jumped on them. You should have seen Foss scream! It was sooo funny!
Duncan Idaho Posted March 7, 2002 Report Posted March 7, 2002 Heheh, I love it when a game can give you a good scare. First game I recall ever really made me jump was Doom. Wolf3D was great, but those Demon's in Doom could make me leap from my seat if I didn't see them in time. If AvP2 can give a good scare like that, I'm in, for sure! Idaho

TARWMSRK Posted March 7, 2002 Report Posted March 7, 2002 man--- avp2 on easy (playing as marine) nearly made me wet my pants 3 times---- I ruined my keyboard from one encounter by spilling a drink on it.. Im going to play the marine on hard tonight--- I have a question tho-- what about the game scared you guys? For me it was: *The way your trying to close one of those large doors hoping one of those aliens arnt behind you or trying to get through the door before it closes. *When your running from aliens, you turn around for a quick second--- there are about 20 blips 20m from you but you dont see aliens.. *The damn music!! It changes alerting you that your in danger so your looking around frantically for aliens but see nothing. *running down dark corridors (youd think there would be SOME lights on *your exit being blocked and having to crawl through a vent *Frostys stupidity.. (you people know what I mean--- she was already dead anyway. (or what id consider dead) It took me 5 minutes to work up the nerve to enter.. -- Im interested to hear what scares you guys when ya play the game as marine.. Also I dont care what anyone says about the marine-- They suck? tell that to my pulse rifle.. or tell that to alice quote: The only complaint I have about AvP2 is the lack of co-op play. Man, that was a blast. There is a program I saw somewhere on planetavp that lets you play coop games- if I find it ill post a link.. also im making a space station map if your interested [ 03-06-2002, 23:09: Message edited by: Carl Burning ]
Guest $iLk Posted March 7, 2002 Report Posted March 7, 2002 I like to play as Pred with me and one other and about 12 marines. Last game I played the marines had 30 kills and me and the other pred had about 80 kills apiece. Nothing but the stick. The lesson to learn here is - having a big stick doesn't mean anything if you don't know how to use it...
Epsilon 5 Posted March 7, 2002 Report Posted March 7, 2002 quote:*opens a can of Pepsi for Epsi* Haha get it?LOL! I prefer Coke for myself. MaybeI should call myself Okelon 5
Vanethian Posted March 7, 2002 Report Posted March 7, 2002 AVP2 is amazing! i completed the marine campaign (it's easier than the marine campaign in AVP) but i didn't play AVP2 in multiplayer. But last year i played AVP in multiplayer with known friends and i enjoyed it very much. We used also Roger Wilco for communications... very cool!
Guest Fox__Trot Posted March 8, 2002 Report Posted March 8, 2002 Yes but will AvP2 work online on my 56k connection? The last FPS game I could play online that was a shooter was Tribes 2 and before that Unreal Toruny... People start forgeting 56k users oh well good thing ive got so many comps and a nice 100mbit network setup
