Having handcuffed a few people in my day I didn't think it was too bad until I saw the punch and watched it with the sound turned up. Sucker punching a 16 y/o kid already handcuffed and face down is pretty gutless no matter what your poilical beliefs are isn't it? If any of our west coast friends have more info , let us in on it.

I feel worse with each broadcast. But, hey, thats the system for you. And the sad thing is, none of the officers have been taken off duty pending an investigation.

So basically this sends out a message to people that the police actually condones this type of action. No wonder public opinion for the police is at an all time low.

Kevin Trotter Posted July 11, 2002 Author Report Posted July 11, 2002 Apparently it's happened again , this time in Arizona(?) Just saw the tape and at least this time the guy was over sixteen. Apparently he is an alleged dope dealer who was trying to swallow his package. I'm aware of a lot techniques to prevent that from occuring but none of them include a nightstick across the chest. I have no love for dealers as in my line of work I have to deal with people who they make their living off , but they are making it too hard for the Majority of cops who risk their lives daily, by focusing on these mentally defective few who screw it up for the rest of us.

Of course criminals will say they've been brutalized just to take the heat off of their guilty asses. And when I first watched the tape I said to myself, Oh boy, here goes the media blowing this up. But when I saw the cop punch that guy in the face, it was crystal clear that A) The man was restrained He posed no threat to the offending officer or anyone else for that matter and C) The officer clearly crossed the line. He'll be fired for sure and probably will have to find another line of work. Just my 2cents
CommanderJohnson Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 I think that the cop should be fired and thrown in jail because of the obvious issue of breaking the law and attacking someone in custody. On another note though, I question the motives behind the idea that criminals should be protected so much by the law. Sure, I believe that cops shouldn't be able to murder people in handcuffs, etc but I don't know if I agree with the idea that if cops get sorta pissed that a suspect shot at them, or made them run a mile or two to catch them, or the suspect shot a cop, that the cop is going to get in trouble for punching the guy in the face, or pushing him into the hood of a car. I mean, it's almost natural that if you were just in a fight with someone, and your in pain and you finally win, that you might take another shot or two. The criminal *might* actually *deserve* an extra couple of hits (as long as it's not killing him, putting him through an excessive amount of pain, etc). If you think about yourself in the exact same situation, on both ends of it, you should be thinking: As a cop: "I'm so pissed at this piece of scum for resisting arrest so much. As the kid: "I shouldn't have tried running/resisting arrest, etc. I was a moron." Hell, if the kid was running from another kid at his school, the kid probably woulda chased him down and beat him a lot worse than any cop ever would.

Jerrai Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 im from Cali, and almost all the cops in cities like that get a lil excessive. its alot of media BS that makes ppl in general think all minorites are thugs, gang bangers, or otherwise undesirable. but the police never have enough men or women on the force. so i doubt he will get fired, maybe supended and fined. if he is fired it will be a good thing
