Guest Remo Williams Posted September 16, 2002 Report Posted September 16, 2002 If any of you are business owners you might find this article interesting. I've actually heard a few of these uttered by my own employees and couldn't believe my ears.
Epsilon 5 Posted September 16, 2002 Report Posted September 16, 2002 I've heard #3 at work, in fact, everyone did because she talked in the walkie-talkies we have The bosses didn't find it funny
AllenKG2001 Posted September 16, 2002 Report Posted September 16, 2002 When I use to work in London for a Budget computer shop, you wouldn't believe what we use to say to some of our customers. Yes sir, we have your computer for repair and should be ready by Wednesday. (Looking at their empty computer case as we've strip it and sold all the parts to other customers!) Yes madam, I'm sorry but the couriors are useless, they got your postcode wrong again. (Knowing that the computer wasn't even ready yet!) We even had WatchDog come in once, and not only that, some geezer with a shotgun came in (Sent by one of our suppliers who we owed money to). That was a bad place to work. The company has gone bust now and I work for a decent company nowdays.

AllenKG2001 Posted September 16, 2002 Report Posted September 16, 2002 Cool. I just got my results from my computer programming course. 85% Not bad!
AWells Posted September 17, 2002 Report Posted September 17, 2002 Aww.. man, I used to work in a amusement park... talk about fun. Nothing like telling the people who are pale white and gripping onto the side of thier Ferris Wheel car for dear life before the ride has even started, "Don't worry, nobody's fallen off all day." Or, "If you fall, could you please try to land on the other side... the last guy almost hit me." Then of course there was the time we had this... well... obese woman on the Ferris Wheel. Well, ok, obese is an understatement. When the car she was in (and she just barely fit in a car designed to hold four adults) was going up the wheel would slow down noticably and then after she cleared the top the wheel would speed up and turn faster than the tires that were driving it, letting out a horrid screeching sound. Of course everybody in line noticed this and one of them asked my coworker what was wrong. He immediately pointed at the woman and said loud enough for everybody in line to hear, "I can't help it... she's too %^$#ing fat!"
AllenKG2001 Posted September 17, 2002 Report Posted September 17, 2002 LOL! I remember when working at argos and someone phoned up asking if we had weighing scales that went over 20 stone! Was tempted to tell her she needed to buy some industrial scales.

DraconisRex Posted September 17, 2002 Report Posted September 17, 2002 Customer Service, in many areas, is dying from neglect... I've been to Wal-Mart on more occasions than I could possibly count, and some of them are good, while others, horrid. I've been a restaurant manager, a truck stop fuel desk manager, convenience store asst. manager, and an office manager. In all of these, you have customers on some level. At a Taco Bell in Baltimore, while we were in line about to place our order, they closed the store two-hours early. When I asked the lady what the problem was, she said, and I qoute: "I'm just having trouble dealing with my day..." That tells me a lot... I read that as "Go away, stay away -- your money isn't wanted here." There is a McDonalds not too far from my house that opens at 5 am. Because of the distance to my job, I'd sometimes go in at 5:30. The store would be open, but whoever ran the Drive-thru didn't bother to turn on the lights at the Drive-thru, or listen to the Dinger. I'd have to go inside to place the order. This tells me, "Oh, no, we're not really open yet -- that's just an illusion created by the efforts of top-management to get your business...." Customer Service means assisting the customer. Not lying to them, being rude to them or any other customer, nor just taking their returned item and shoving them away like unwanted laundry. It's funny -- the people in Baltimore and the DC area, for the most part, are rude, discourteous, and uncaring. But I can drive to anywhere in PA and feel welcome. Although it's 30 miles north of us, I prefer to go to the Wal-Mart in Shrewsbury, PA, instead of any location in the area in which we live. The only exceptions to this rule is any and all of the Quiznos we've been to, regardless of geographical location, and an Arby's in Collage Park, MD, and our bank. With over 5 million people in the area, with something close to 600,000 businesses, that is very sad. I'm not saying that Customer Service needs to be perfect 24/7, but you'd be amazed what patience, understanding (even if only apparent), and an occasional smile will do. Nobody smiles in this area unless you make them with jokes or whatever. That means unhappiness starts at the top, and rolls down the chain like an avalanche.
Urza Posted September 21, 2002 Report Posted September 21, 2002 When I'm at work, my smiles are so large, people often ask if I just had half a bottle of pep pills. Here's a common encounter that makes me want to rip my hair out: Customer: "How big is your large soda?" Urza: "44 ounces." Customer: "Yeah, but how big is it?" Excuse me, but "44 ounces" is saying EXACTLY how big it is. Regardless of how you look at it, $4 for such a soda is a rip-off, even if you do get free refills. PS: Why I'm still awake at 3 am writing posts I'll never know. [ 09-21-2002, 03:16 AM: Message edited by: Urza ]

Raven Posted September 22, 2002 Report Posted September 22, 2002 Hah! ThatÔÇÖs nothing, try not eating and getting very little sleep (and at odd hours) for a couple of weeks, itÔÇÖs great fun! You get dizzy easily and everything is a bit fuzzy and off kilter. Of course, itÔÇÖs kind of hard to do anything that doesnÔÇÖt involve laying around or walking slowly while holding on to something, but thatÔÇÖs fun too

If I sleep about 3 hours one night, the day after I'm feeling sick. not dizzy, very tired, and sick.
AWells Posted October 23, 2002 Report Posted October 23, 2002 Went out to dinner with a couple people from school last night. I was a little late and showed up after everybody else had ordered. Well, the waitress comes over after about 15 minutes and apologizes for not seeing me come in... she hands me a menu and askes if I want anything to drink, so I go to open the menu to take a glance at what they have, and she says, "I don't have time for this," and takes off. I had to laugh... I don't think I've ever seen a waitress do that before. We just chaulked it up to my natural talent for making friends.

I can do just fine on the occasional one hour of sleep (not every night, or even most, but on occasions) and never have the least bit of nausea. Of course, the dizziness has more to do with my eating habits then my sleeping ones. With insufficient sleep itÔÇÖs usually a vague fuzziness rather then dizziness, but the two go very well together.
