Please format that thing and put it in quotes if it's an article, I have no idea who wrote it, where it was written or anything.

Those papers can and will shut down or sue a website that posts something like this without credit being revealed.

I am deleting the inside of the post for right now, please edit your post and put in the credit etc and make sure the article is in quotes.

Thanks.

Race posted a very good article written by himself that basically asked this question. "Why isn't Bush doing anything at home?" He cited the corporate scandals, the falling stock market, and a couple other things.

If Race could remember a couple of those things maybe we could salvage what could be a good thread.

Corporate scandals; I know the answer to this one. It started with deregulation in the Reagan era, was helped along by a Republican controlled congress during Clinton's tenure, and came to a head just recently.

The falling stock market: I know this one too. Too much deregulation helped Enron sell and resell (and resell again) it's own pipeline capacity causing the energy crisis in California. It also used bogus buying and selling of it's own subsidiaries (helped along by the banks) allowing it to inflate it's seeming profit far beyond what is reasonable. It finally went far beyond what they could cover up and they had to confess.

Time that with with K-Mart seemingly natural bankruptcy ( I do happen to belive K-mart went bankrupt from mismanagement and not illegal deals) and everybody else decided it was time to jump on the confession bandwagon. Bingo. Domino effect. The market tanked.

It is all loosely tied together but not Bush's fault.

I do blame Bush for single handedly destroying the first surplus we had in years. He coulda kept his stupid $300. It didn't do me a whole lotta good. Might have paid one month's utilities. Big whoop. What he should have done is cut it in half and amortized it over the year so that my paycheck looked much bigger. Woulda fooled alot more people.

I think Bush is paying far too much attention on Saddam and not on issues at home. His father did the same thing. As soon as Bush Sr was lame duck he abandoned home issues entirely and went on a diplomacy spree that really didn't result in any great accomplishments. That made me mad. Don't know how to fix that though.

I do give Bush Jr credit for invoking Taft-Hartley (?) to get those western coast docks operating again. Regardless of the military importance of those docks we needed them to keep the economy going.

Good save. I guess my main points were my dissapointment with the President ignoring the very issues he ran on and politicizing an issue that should be above politicization.

We have an econmoy in extremely bad shape with investers daily living and dying by how the markets close.

Working americans who have contributed to retirement accounts watch as their pensions and 401k's lose value quarterly. Mine has lost about 20% of it 's value in the past year alone and the administrations response? Let's put your Social Security benefits in the stock market as well.

Homeland security? Think anyone in DC feels secure? I have friends in DC who tell me the homeless are offering thier services to pump gas and load groceries. I think a lot of people in DC know what it's like to live in Belfast or Jerusalem. I guess if it's domestic terrorism that's not a concern to the White House.

It's great that the President threatened Taft-Hartley and ended that situation in California but the economy lost nearly a billion dollars a day before it ended. What's more the long term effects won't be evident until we see how much the price increases on electronic items and toys(the items most affected by this situation)

Most of all what I see is a tremendous leadership vacuum. Roosevelt,Eisenhower,Kennedy and even as much as I hate to admit it Reagan , all were strong leaders. Where is the President's leadership? What legacy will he leave when all is said and done. Has diplomacy in foreign policy been permanently replaced by reactionary saber rattling? How much longer does the public have to stand by why greedy CEO's loot thier companies and simeotaneously lay off hundreds of workers,

while over valuing stock they know is worthless.

It appears some people are only tough on crime based on the amount of money stolen. Steal Jaguar's tv, get shot and go to jail. Steal company profits and cook the books on corporation that manufactors tv's and get a fine and a slap on the wrist.(NO offense to you Jag, only used you as an example since any theif fool enough to break in your house would undoubtably be shot)

In the end we all want to be moved. To feel part of something special and right. To not be afraid but to be proud of our country and our place in the world. I don't want to be convinced the sky is falling everytime to small time despot raises his head in an international game of whack-a-mole. Show us some leadership Mr.Bush and even some of us liberals will be willing to follow.

We are waiting

For those who thought the above was bad.(crack fingers).

Rant**

Leadership is not forth coming....there are numerous filters in place both governmental and non to insure this.

By having only two official parties of incompetence....the people are not heard.

Having a central government that is basically the strong arm of the economy is the reality. A reality people don't care about because they have been told (by the system) to value everything this good system brings. Goods, services, and the ethnocentric fanatical ignorance to match ...with only a "conflict" every ten years or so to maintain it..

Liberty, thought, and true uniqueness are frowned upon....we have second rate leaders that believe in war over education....we have a corporately sponsored media that terrorizes the people with scenes of dont let this happen to you....and a war industry that grows evermore greedy on our taxes (that they lose half the time) while removing the middle ground our moderates opponents survive in forcing a tail of tears to extremist positions.and then wondering why we are being attacked.hell we even dropped the wondering partnational leaders dont even care.

Having a central government and media that forces one way of life on all the people of the land is not freedom, democratic or realistic. We have lost the notion that the states can govern themselves and people can live how they want. People are different and need to be left to live in the peace they decided for themselves.

This country needs to be renamed to The United Federal Emirates. Run by the house of Bush (insert acting 4 year CEO) and the corporate indorsed fundamentalist greed mongers that should be wearing various logos on the lapels of their suits instead of American flags.....uh....under God...or Allah...or whatever sells..Amen.

I believe in liberty, social and economic justice...for and BY the people...in the world abroad and this country in particular...and I'm not alone....

Sustainability people...SUSTAINABILITY!

Whew...rant over.....

I only meant certain people will consider what you wrote as bad because it seems liberal....if you are critical of the president in a time of "conflict" something must be wrong with you... or some other conservative nonsense....

If you attack corporate crooks and their Republican (and Democratic) partners...again...you are against our whole way of life....or something....

I am highly critical of current American culture and that bothers peopleso then Im unpatriotic ..etc.

I thought what you wrote was accurate and insightful....but I figured others would believe my points to be extreme next to yours.....

Believe it or not, I agree with almost your whole post above Lotharr, amazing.

Central government is bad, states should run themselves, if this country indeed ran by the constitution, that is the way it would be.

But this, I have a hell of hard time with.

quote:

I believe in liberty, social and economic justice...for and BY the people...in the world abroad and this country in particular...and I'm not alone....

Liberty, hey, I'm with you, social justice? what is that? Economic justice? what is that?

Liberty and freedom, and laws applied to ALL fairly. then, you will have your so-called social justice, but I do not believe in economic justice, because you ALWAYS have to steal from those that have in order to give to those who don't. That's not justice, that's just plain stealing.

Some can make and keep money, and others cannot, those of us that can should not be made to suffer because of those that can't. That is what family is for, and let me keep more of my money and I will give more to REAL charities, where 95% of the money goes to the needy, instead of these government run programs where 5 cents of every dollar actually get to those who need it.

You let me keep my money instead of allowing the government to steal it, and I will voluntarily open my wallet to charities, PRIVATE charities.
