GREG MILLER Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 Did any of you catch the recent reviews of the Geforce FX? Both Anandtech, and Tom's Hardware, have audio (Tom's) and Video {Anandtech) of the Dustbuster FX in action. That thing is hideously LOUD!!! My wife even had a reaction to the noise when I played the clips. What in the world posessed Nvidia to think using a dustbuster to cool a video card was a good thing??? Oh that's right, Nvidia thinks all gamers wear headphones anyway. Maybe the acquistion of 3dfx wasn't a good thing after all.
Epsilon 5 Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 Is is better or not? Anandtech says no, Tom says yes. Either way, I'm looking at getting a 9700 sometime in the future
Kalshion Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 I have trouble beleaving reviews... expicualy*SP* ones that test the sound the card makes, so I don't trust this test.. I'll test it myself and see if what they say is truly real
Andergum Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 Anand's review is much better IMO. They included screenshots and IQ comparisons and did most of their benchmarking using AA and AF. Anyone buying a videocard these days is definately going to crank up the AA and AF. There is just no reason not to anymore. Tom's is obviously very biased towards Nvidia. Overall I think the GFFX has a couple BIG problems. Heat and noise. The speed is not bad for beta drivers but not nearly as good as what I expected from all the hype. The measures they had to go through to get it that fast is rediculous. The fan is just too big and noisy and my computer has quite enough heat already. Looks like ATI made the right choices with their 256 bit memory bus and staying at .15 for one more cycle.
Kenada Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 If you want my opinion, the GFFX makes as much noise running at full speed as my computer case does... I have a Enlight ( Picture of My Case ) Full size server case minus the the redundent PS, with 6 80MM fans al throughout my system. I have 7 5.25" Drivesbays, and 4 3.5" bays.
Supreme Cmdr Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 Tom's review is complete and utter biased rubbish. Yes, the fan on the FX card is LOUD. Then again, its time to buy insulating sheets and line the inside of the case with it.
Andergum Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 OMG!!! These GFFX pics are so funny!!!!!!!!! ROTFLMAO!!!!! http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4063
Epsilon 5 Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 ROTFLMAO! btw how much powerful was the GFFX said to be? 3-4 times the power of the current leader (AKA 9700pro) ?
Pedro Pablo Laracuente Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 quote: btw how much powerful was the GFFX said to be? 3-4 times the power of the current leader (AKA 9700pro) ? Not that much AFAIK. But hey, if you want real info wait for the users to review it, and also wait for the BENCHMARKS. If you judge a product from its pre-release reviews you wont get anywhere near the right choices.
Kalshion Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 even if the fan is that loud.. for all we know Nvidia might fix it so that it isn't that loud. Once I get it I'll review it like a true reviewer. .I won't make lies like that ahole did one those movies
