Laptop Thief Caught Via AOL Login

I find it odd that Wells & Fargo would allow its employees to check their AOL mail from the office and that the laptop would be assigned its own WAN IP.

...or am I missing something...

im not sure how the police were able to know that the IP that was shown was indeed the one from the stolen lap[top... SC could you explain this a bit?

as for AOL... well you dont need AOL software downloaded on your PC to login to the AOL website and check your mail. i just went to the AOL site in fact and clicked on the check mail link to see what would happen, i was prompted for a password for someone elses account and no one in my house uses aol or has an aol account.

That seems somewhat fishy to me as well. It seems to me that more likely than not the computer would have a dynamic IP address. Even if it were a static IP he'd have to log into the Wells & Fargo network to be assigned it, right? Something just seems...off...with that story.
