But if you wondering what im talking then here's the scope A couple students and I had a meeting today with the administation at my school, we have never had these meetings before.. well we just found out that all the students in my career class being DENIED the right to graucate all because of TWO, yes you heard me TWO, students who keep messing up and ruining it for everyone. Administation has told us that conditions in my career class don't get better soon then everyone will be kicked out of school and we'll be unable to graduate WTF!?!? can they REALLY DO THIS!?!? Honestly are they allowed to do this? Punishing a whole god damn f***ing class all because of two students who are screw ups? (they don't like the career class so all they do is sabatoge equipment and make life harder on all of us) My friends and I are thinking of taking action against this since we find it to not be right since we had nothing to do with these problems What are you guys opinions on these? I can understand if they didn't know who it was but since everyone knows it's two guys I'm assuming everyone knows who it is. You go after them then and not the whole class. I'd fight that one to my dying breath. To me that's tantamount to saying " because there is one overly obese student in the class everyone must go on a diet!"

If the school is a private organization, they are free to do pretty much anything they please, however, if the goal was for everyone to be denied graduation they would not have offered you the opportunity to rectify this situation, they would simply fail you all. Personally, I couldnt think of a better place to teach problem resolution (which is what this is) than in a career class. Note: While I am not familiar with the particulars of your situation, it would seem that the staff is indeed on your side, even if they are somewhat lazy in enforcing fair treatment (another wonderful thing to teach about in career class, life being fair all the time) If they are alienated from the class, negative results will most likely result. quote: When I was in the Navy this would have warranted a "blanket" party. My intent was to offer my perspective on what I hope would be my course of action, get the two students in line or get them out.

He had these huge watery eyes that reminded me of a basset hound, anyway, I digress. This guy refused to bathe, after about a week of basic in the army, you are sweating a lot, and this guy STANK!!! We told him, over and over and over again, get in the fricking shower A-Hole, you're stinking up the joint. It got to a point where we finally complained to the drill sergeant, he gave us hard bristle brushes, some comet, and rubber gloves, and said, I will not be in your barracks for the next hour, and neither will anyone else in charge. We took mr. Stinky into the bathroom, there were 10 of us against his one, and proceeded to scrub his little bod raw, with comet and hard bristle brushes. We tossed him in his bed, battered, raw and bleeding, and smelling of comet, and let me tell you, that was a lot better then what he had smelled like before, and went to chow. When we got back to the barracks, the drill seargeant had us all sit down and told us that we were bad boys, and we were in trouble, so he made us walk around the building twice, and then sent us to bed. Yeah, walked around the building twice, quite the punishment...LOL The kid never missed a bath again. Take care of it yourselves, a blanket party probably would not be the greatest of ideas, but sometimes it is the only thing capable of getting through the thick skulls of such morons. Physical pain is an incredible learning tool and motivator, and sometimes, that is what it takes with some people.
Bandus Posted December 18, 2003 Report Posted December 18, 2003 I tend to agree with the rest of the people here. It seems they are giving you an opportunity to solve the problem. While I don't recommend resorting to violence right away, remember your playing with the rest of your life/career. IMHO, I'd talk with the guys and tell them to either shape up or drop the class. Give them a concise ultimatum and if they do not conform, all bets are off. Blanket party away...
LostInSpace Posted December 18, 2003 Report Posted December 18, 2003 All I can see is this could lead to vigilantism for the simple fact some people are pricks and don't listen and when they don't some people will just get plain mad and do violence. This is not the right way to teach a lesson. Since there is equipment damage law enforcement should be called and have the two arrested for vandelism. That would be the better lesson to teach not to take matters into your own hands like this cause it could be dangerous but to defer the issue to law enforcement. I would suggest is to go thru all school rules and regulations documents looking for what they can and cannot do etc... Inquire if they've done this before with a class or is it something they just came up with on a whim. If you find nothing about this issue in any of the documents, confront them about this telling them that it should be listed as a policy so everyone knows ahead of time what they are in for in a situation like this and that it is just plain wrong and possibly illegal to come up with this on a whim and that it should be properly documented in any rules and regulations and that is should be their responsibilty to take action on the two students not the class since you have enough on your plate with studying and tests right to have to deal with this bs issue. That could be what they are aiming for to teach you to use you mind and the law. I like that alot better than the mob mentality.

Has anyone actually sat down with the faculty and discussed this problem, or was it some kind of mass briefing? I'm asking this because it is quite common for educators to forget that they are 'for-profit' organizations providing a service to clients (that's you). Since they are either a private company, a county college, or a state institution, they are able to do whatever they wish. Bad idea follows: The only thing you 'might' have on them in terms of legal defence is a breach of contract. I would not pursue this road as it could lead to lengthy and expensive litigation. Good idea follows: As LostInSpace said, your best bet is to do your research regarding this practice at your particular school. Look up your particular institution's rules and regulations (they have entire rooms full, I promise ) Also, do the smart thing, get together with your classmates/friends and brainstorm up a way to deal with these guys who are directly threatening your future. At the very least, you will have lost money and and 2-5 hours, that's worth sticking up for.
Kalshion Posted December 19, 2003 Author Report Posted December 19, 2003 Vandalism/destruction of school property(including classroom equipment) is marked in the rules at my school, and is punishable by a large fine and jail sentence Unfortantly, no matter how much evidence and proof we bring its always turned away (one problem we have is that one of the students has a family member who works at the school = so that cause's problems) As for the meeting and such, it was a no go they wern't able to keep there promise but I did get wind that the 'no-grad' thing was kicked out of the school. No idea what caused them to change there mind But then again, after todays problems in my career class I've gotten a bit tired of all the run-about. *sigh*

Kalshion Posted December 20, 2003 Author Report Posted December 20, 2003 Well guys got some excellent news Despit the fact the meeting lasted 9 hours = and I went through a lot of water and such, the meeting was a success Administation took my side (both due to evidence and also due to the school itself), both students in my class are going to be kicked out of the school That was a hair raising experience now I know what SC has to go through sometimes Other than that, everything else is A-OK.. I would go on the subject about how my health was affected but SC would probably say "Rubbish" so im not going to start Will edit the title of the topic to say "- Resolved" *wipes sweet off his face* Back to training marines and such.. wait.. maybe I better get some SLEEP first
