Actually, from what I understand, the 747 program is going to get a full redesign, to see if it can be modernized up to the standards of the 777.

If it is possible, you will probably see a new modern version of the 747 up in the air in the next 4 years.

In the meantime, if there are orders, more 747's will be built, but the contracts are done for the 747's, and the 777's are kicking into gear.

The Everett plant builds the 747, 757, 767, and the 777, so there is plenty going on to keep the plant going.

And Airbus is infused with cash by the french government, of course Boeing is not, so airbus has an advantage from the get go.
