I am confused as well that one statement is the one you focus on. What was fair game in the Clinton era is all of a sudden out of bounds now?

We dont have to make conservatives look bad, our president is doing quite nicely all by himself. The was a systemic breakdown. The gov failed ultimately on all levels. And to quote Chuck Yeager " Sometimes you get a pooch that can't be screwed" Meaning even with all the right planning and execution something of this magnitude was unmanagable by its very nature.but ultimately the Buck stops with the President.

My statement was a response to YOU guys spinning this thing into a defense of Bush's foreign policy, I was content to focus on the issue at hand and my statement was a response plain and simple.

People are dying(most of them look like me) and I was angered by what I read and saw. I noticed a slant that was shall I say "less than sympathetic" almost as you were blaming those people for being in an awful situation. I guess none of you caught Nightline last night showing the people of the poorest neighborhood banding together to help eachother. You missed a feature on an African American man who loaded carload after carload of food and distributing it to anyone in need. He used the gas in his car to do this instead of leaving. I am sure none of you would have commented on that story because it is apolitical. So in answering your question, yes we can have that discussion if we both abide by the same rules. In this case we should just focus on those in need.

First of all, I'll refer back to something I stated in a previous post:

"To be perfectly honest, I think we right-wingers are at least partially to blame for the state of partisan, political rhetoric today, but regardless, it needs to stop... or at least be put on hold."

In case you missed this thread, I was pointing out that we conservatives over analyzed and criticized EVERYTHING Clinton did (admittedly, I still think the guy is a weasel) so now the left feels compelled to respond in kind. That I think Bush, while certainly no Ronald Reagan, is superior to Clinton as President is irrelevant. What matters is that the rhetoric from our side became mean and spiteful at times, and that was just wrong.

Having said that, I find it disgusting that now, after a disaster of this magnitude, there is no "cooling off" period in the US, where we help those who we can, and mourn those we can't. Instead, the left jumps on the attack, and politicizes the death of thousands.

Anyone who listened to Glenn Beck (conservative radio personality) during and following the 9/11 horror may remember how he would not field ANY phone calls by conservatives wanting to blame Clinton for having set us up for this disaster. He did so later on, and very rightfully so, imo, but the point is, for a little while, as he put it:

"We are not Democrats or Republicans, Liberals or Conservatives, atheists or Christians, black or white today. Today, we are all Americans."

In my view, it's the only classy way to behave in a time like this. And frankly, Race, the left appears to be somewhat lacking in class.

Anyway, the Democrats had a golden opportunity, a golden opportunity to say to every American we are putting politics aside and throwing ourselfs 100% behind the president in this national crisis. The acriminations will come after this is over. Did they do this? Nope they are playing politics as usual. What happened to the new improved democratic party? The something different spin they gave us. You see the president not doing things then you rally all the other states and take matters into your own hands. But no still no such heros in the government. I don't know if any of you guys are aware of this but New York City sent a legion of firefighters, police officers and humanitarian relief when it was realized what a clamity it was in NO. We know devistation all too well.

As Jaguar has stated this was mainly a failure of the state and local leaders even in the aftermath. Louisiana leaders gave everyone the impression they had everything under control.

No mention of the feds at all. Just the state should support the citizens. How this all of a sudden became a fed and Bush's cross to bear I'll never know. Well actually I do know but I've already stated that.

It also doesn't help matters when you have responsible people in position on the ground running amuck too that are suppose to be there to help and quiet the situation.

Funny, why didn't they also use that facility as an alternative shelter to the super dome? Looks big enough. Funny how there's a car towards the end loaded up and ready to go. Actually, there are quite a few cars there. No means to get out? Hmmm.

red tape hinders help for katrina victims

first 3 paragraphs make me sick... if they dont want the extra rescue personnel in the area, whatever, at least take and distribute the supplies.

when i said earlier about the fed govt reacting to slow, i by no means meant the pres himself. i meant the AGENCIES suffer from head up ass syndrome. there was too many chiefs and not enough indians.

but like i said before, most of this trouble with evacuees could of been avoided if the city/state level would of had something in place.

and one more thing that pisses me off to no end... these people rescued and homeless from new orleans are NOT refugees... they are american citizens.

Mayor may force people out of New Orleans... thats right you prick mayor, these people made a CHOICE to stay when offered the chance of rescue. now youre going to drag them out? hmmm i also read that there were already plans in place for an evacuation of New Orleans that called for busses to be used, and yet you sat on your ass... i hope you can sleep at night.
