  1. quote: And guess what: that's Bin Laden's program. That's exactly what he wants. That's why he did this.Doubtful. He wouldn't be trying to distance himselves from it... At any rate, it IS much the fault of the Afghanis. The government of ANY nation is the responsibility of the people. Without the people's support, NO government can exist, even at gunpoint. Sometimes citizens have to die for what is right.
  2. Well, you'd need to connect it into a backbone somewhere with fiberoptics, etc. Would cost thousands of dollars.
  3. Check out the Insurgency, Spectre Fleet in particular. We need good people who are willing to accept any responsibility given. If you don't believe you can handle that pressure, though, I'd recommend steering far clear of us. We do not carry the resources of the other fleets with regards to people, therefore the individuals who join us MUST be prepared to handle real responsibility.

Any quick advice to a BC newbie let loose on the forums? ...let loose is putting it mildly. They're loose alright. Just wait until the game is released....I don't even want to think about it. I might as well deputize (make them moderators) everyone whose been around since '97, or its going to get outta control....I'll be on an island somewhere, out of reach for about two weeks. [ 09-13-2001: Message edited by: Supreme Cmdr ] No worries, boss. I'll keep them in line. Anyway, I'm glad you all liked that interview. Was fun.
  5. quote: Originally posted by Menchise: This is a terrifying tragedy ( ), and it's not surprising that so many want blood for blood, but history has proven that it's never that simple. The USA has been a popular target of terrorism for decades, and the US government has issued the same response over and over again: military retaliation. Despite all of the military power that the USA has deployed in response to acts of terrorism, the attacks continue to get worse. Dropping bombs on people who are more than willing to die is ineffective. The "war on terrorism" is going the way of the "war on drugs": zero tolerance is becoming futile. A military response should not be the first resort. Of course the terrorists should be punished, but there are other ways of punishing them. They're called "courts". As soon as the criminals are discovered, and they WILL be discovered (they hit the Pentagon, dammit), the government should push for extradition and put the terrorists on trial for their crimes. This is an option worth exploring for two reasons: 1. Civilians are less likely to get slaughtered by stray warheads. 2. That's what America is all about (at least according to the founders). You've got to be kidding. We've been "punishing" terrorists through the courts for decades, and look what happens. On the day before the sentencing of an associate of bin Laden, thousands of innocent Americans are killed. Yeah, let's keep using courts. Let's keep dealing with terrorists taking hostages in the hopes of getting their comrades sprung. Let's keep doing the SAME THINGS over and over again, because they OBVIOUSLY can't hurt anyone. THOUSANDS of people died yesterday for no reason. The courts have been used for decades, and still THOUSANDS of people died. I'm sorry, but your pacifist approach has been tried and it has FAILED.
  6. Yeah, Soback, seriously, take it easy. There isn't a person here that isn't completely repelled by what happened today. And, I think I can speak for all Americans in saying that we're all angry and we all want swift, decisive, and intense punishment handed down. But we can shout for it calmly.
  7. Here's an excerpt from the Encrata article on gravitation which says exactly what I've been saying regarding polarity (that gravity does not possess): quote: Second, gravitation is always attractive. In contrast, electromagnetic forces between particles can be repulsive or attractive depending on whether the particles both have a positive or negative electrical charge, or they have opposite electrical charges (see Electricity). These attractive and repulsive forces tend to cancel each other out, leaving only a weak net force. Gravitation has no repulsive force and, therefore, no such cancellation or weakening. So, without polarity, how could gravity be negative?
  8. First, good post Salisbury! Not much I can add to that math. quote: Negative gravity is indeed mathematically possible. Despite salisbury's impressive attempt to refute the idea, it nonetheless is at the very least a mathematical curiosity. It may be nothing more than that, but other ideas brushed off as such are now pretty much accepted. How could it be a mathematical equation? The force known as gravity exerts a pull from all objects with mass on all objects with mass. The only objects without mass that it is observed to effect are photons. Considering that gravity is a force without polarity, there doesn't seem to rest the possibility that it could repel itself, which is the basis for the initial theory. Gravity is not matter and as such, does not comply to the polarity conditions of mass which can reverse themselves. quote: When you get right down to it, it's a simple matter of geometry. Space is flexible, therefore there is no reason why it cannot bend in a manner opposite to that caused by gravity. That puts forth two ideas which we do not know are fact: 1: Space is flexible. 2: Gravity is what bends space. Gravity exerts itself on objects of mass and information, or all particles of the universe, possibly. Space, however, is not made up of particles. Gravity is a force much like light, in the manner that it always is singularly directional. Gravity always pulls in to the source, light always travel from the source. In order to gravity to exist negatively, it would have to travel from the source. But before it COULD exist negatively, the median would have to exist (i.e., and object with mass which exerts zero gravitational pull). Furthermore, the idea that gravity effects the contours of space itself is highly flawed. In fact, it may be the opposite: the contours of space is quite possibly what causes matter to attract itself. Therefore, in order for an antigravity device to work, it would be forced to exist in an oppositely contoured area of space AND in our space at the exact same time, which is impossible. Also, although gravity may effect space time (see: black hole) to some degree, it doesn't seem to equate itself to being the principle space-time regulated force in the universe. Mathematically speaking, negative gravity is impossible due to the fact that we can't mathematically DEFINE gravity yet. We can only measure it and its effects. And considering that its effects are always inward, there is no way one could postulate an equation for it to travel outward. But feel free to try. quote: The possibility of negative matter has been put forth previously.Negative matter = antimatter, and observed phenomena. Negative mass, is the question, and is impossible. How can an object have mass less than zero?

Well, I'm off. ...and with out a significant preload, that's going to seriously bog down the resources.

  11. quote: as has been stated above, we do not yet understand what causes gravity (or how ito replicate it) except that the larger and denser an object, the stronger it's 'gravitational attraction', that would suggest that a wormhole is similar to a black hole.We DO now how to replicate gravity, but we don't know why these processes work. We don't know why mass exerts a pull on other objects with mass. quote: We would have to be able to measure gravity before experienceing it, and then be able to counteract it.We CAN measure gravity, as well. quote: The only problem is that for an object to exert negative gravity, it must have negative mass (or you would have to generate an extremely powerful "negative energy" field). Though negative mass is theoretically possible (read- allowed by the mathematics of relativity), it would be even harder to find or create than antimatter, which in itself is quite rare.Negative mass is merely a mathematical equation, and even then, it isn't possible. It doesn't seem possible that something can have too LITTLE mass that it is negative. Antimatter is a totally different concept than negative mass, as antimatter is technically matter with mass, but with its components charges reversely (eg, positive electron). Negative matter would simply be matter not only without mass, but less than without mass. Which is mathematically impossible.
  12. quote: Originally posted by $iLk: I have class tonight, but Wednesday I will touch that up and do a full design for a front page. I have to figure out what causes Explorer to crash when the embedded MP3 loads in the flash intro. I'll probably just embed src the mp3 into the background. I need a new song though, I'll pick some and give you guys previews. What bit rate is the mp3? Considering the FLASH visuals should make the file only around 3-5K, you probably are just using a music file that's WAY too big. Knock down the music bitrate and cut the length of the music track down, and it should be fixed. FLASH does do its own brand of streaming, but it's not designed for using large music files. For example, if the music isn't playing within seconds of the page load starting, you've got problems with the file size. If you WANT to keep the whole thing, you're gonna have to use the timeline and maybe some ActiveScript to preload the file.
  13. Gravity isn't like a magnet and doesn't seem to possess a positive or negative quality. Science doesn't quite understand gravity yet, but it exhibits no "reversing" trend. I'm not sure your theory is very sound at this point.
  14. Thanks, Gallion. I may not be around a lot for the next few days, so keep an eye on things for me. Thanks. PS: Unca Rattler??? Welcome back!
  15. quote: Originally posted by Blades: Yeah, I apologise for Emmett. He's getting married in three days, and he's finally lost the plot. Still, an interview with the Mikester turned out rather good. He was a little shy at first (Aww bless) but we eventually got him talking. He was a little tight lipped about some subjects, (If you listened, you know exactly what im talking about) but soon enough, we couldnt shut him up. He'll be back ... and so shall we ... minus Emmet. A little shy at first? Hell, what's a man supposed to say? You guys had nothing prepped for the phone call. So, I got mouthy to save your asses. Seriously, though, I had a really good time with those guys. Was quite fun to chat it up with the crew, esp. Blades considering the fact that I've known him for nearly two years now. Plus, the other two guys were just as fun. Oh, as for tight lipped ... when you get married, you'll understand.

  17. Oh, there's talk involved. Blades is gonna get his.
  18. After much pestering, I gave in to Blades and his demand that I advertise his radio show. Go here: www.b2radio.co.uk Anyway, things are liable to get a little toonish on there because I've decided to run up a long distance bill and call in tonight, somewhere around 4pm CST (not doing GMT conversion, so figure it out). The show itself starts at around 3pm CST. Plus, they've got music around the clock (if your tastes coincide with their's anyway.
  19. Mole, no images aside from 3000AD sanctioned stuff are allowed in your sig. Please just use a basic sig, man.
  20. OK, now its OUR turn. Everyone check in, and let's see who's still out there. Gallion: In a week, any fleet member who hasn't replied to this thread should be designated MIA. Eclipse: Find two commanders who reply to this thread and start a recruitment drive. I want some fresh, idealist faces, so they can be grounded into REAL fighting men. Check in, everyone. Its time we get going.
  21. quote: As per Vice Admiral Michael Kristophers' above orders, I have deleted the MIA individuals with the exception of Vice Admiral Sandau.Good work, Sho.
