You know Picasso, that old lady might have been a warrior princess in her youth - hence why she kicked your butt
  2. Shadow, the key thing here isn't software piracy. I'm not even going to waste time touching upon all the implications of this. This will will result in a major change to the software industry. Won't it be great to have to walk into the "adult" section of electronic boutique to buy Soldier of Fortune 2? Try to ignore all the pr0n while you're there. This will result in lost jobs, could stunt creativity* and so on. After this bill, games won't be the same. Also, DO keep in mind that if this bill or law or whatever it is gets through congress, it won't be long before it is law in Canada too. *By stunting creativity, I mean to say that movies and books get as violent/erotic as they damn well please till they hit that R rating but you don't see anyone passing a damn bill about it. Games shouldn't have to suffer similarly.

    The Netherlands Griefs

Isn't this political situation similar to what recently happened in France? A right winger comes close to winning? Is this going to be a recurring theme in the years to come?

    Morrowind

What's killing me is that Scriv here has had the game for at least several hours now and has been too busy immersing himself in it to tease us some more. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!! Gimme some screenshots Scriv!!!

    Rattlesnakes suck.

It's only fun till it has babies and weeks later about 10,000 little spiders hatch and you're like, "Oh s***, Mom's gonna kick my ASS."

    First Amendment Ruling - We're f*cked!

Let's all try to keep in mind that this is a slippery slope. The people who take issue with gibs today will be taking issue with paper cuts in video games tomorrow. That means the cute cartoon violence of "The Sims" and "Super Smash Bros. Melee" or whatever the hell it's called is up next. And what then?

    Is this a death knell?

Gamespot is launching a subscription service, of sorts. Would you guys pay for unlimited downloads and ad free surfing while you read reviews of the latest games? Personally, I wouldn't. The ads don't bother me so much and I don't mind waiting in line at Fileplanet for downloads - and god knows I haven't watched a streamed video since 1998. http://gamespot.com/gamespot/stories/flat/...2862235,00.html
  11. Ahem. First, I'm the guy who wrote the CNET.com article. In the two years since I've heard it all. Second, Marc Saltzman wrote a much more in-depth article for Gamespot.com a few months ago - here's a link: http://gamespot.com/gamespot/features/pc/abandonware/ When reading the CNET article, please keep in mind that it was one of the first of its kind - I interviewed people at software associations who had never heard the term before I came along. Now things are different. Cheers!
  12. Well, has anyone else picked this up yet? If this doesn't win Game of the Year (or at least, strategy or RPG game of the year) then Bob's your uncle. Heh. The atmosphere/feeling of 50-60's comics is perfectly recreated here - Kirby's influence is all over this game. Dialogue is excellent and combat is wonderful - though encounters with supervillains aren't the long, drawn out battles I was hoping for. As I mentioned in the bridge commander thread, the highlight of most games these days is MP. Unfortunately, FFs MP is only deathmatch, but oh what fun - I found a Spiderman skin online the other night, so I created a character with powers/abilities I felt were faithful and went online - and played against someone using the Green Lantern. How cool is that? Heh. So - any thoughts folks?

    XBox co-creator resigns

quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: oh oh, this can't be good. Can't it? Don't worry about it - I talked to the guy during the X-Box development period and he was as enthused about it as if it were his own baby. Someone waved a few bills in front of him, that's all

    Fluxgames.com Help Needed

Reviewers should never have to buy games. Besides the ethical concerns surrounding it (don't ask, I only know its bad) it would quickly put most reviewers out of business. Jamont, feel free to get in touch with questions - I'll do my best to answer or point you in the right direction: [email protected] Cheers!

Best PC games of all time?

There are a ton of games I love - but only a few games that I ever loved so much I kept them all these years and even play once in a while: Ascendancy Star Control II Master of Orion II Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri Wing Commander: Privateer

Star Trek: Bridge Commander (Full Version)

quote:Originally posted by Urza: quote: combat is excellent and unmatched by other Star Trek games released to date. I beg to differ. The Starfleet Command series was, IMO, the best Star Trek combat game ever made, bar-none. Hm, you got me there - I completely forgot about the SFC series. I never got into it for two reasons - first, my computer at the time was a P-233 so it ran like crap. Second, I didn't like the *style* of the game. For example, the game featured missiles and fighters - these have never been elements of the trek tv shows (yes, I know we saw some fighters in DS9, that's the exception). Ultimately, I didn't agree with its implementation of the star trek universe - but I agree it is a great tactical game. /me stands corrected

Star Trek: Bridge Commander (Full Version)

Good points all around, but I'd like to throw in my two cents. First, in X-Wing if you felt your starfighter was too slow, just boost all your power to your engines. That was enough to get you anywhere fast Second, as with most games released today, Bridge Commander is best played online. Its single player campaign isn't a bastion of good gaming - but it does have its moments, and it does effectively make you feel like you are in teh captains chair (albeit a captain who takes orders from his crew). BC's strengths are in MP - if you can get some team based games going (where people aren't cheating...!!!) the combat is excellent and unmatched by other Star Trek games released to date. A week ago I destroyed someone in a Sovereign using an Akira class ship. How often do you hear of that happening? Anyway, it's all a matter of taste. 2002 has truly been a fine year for gaming.

    Dungeon Siege

I have to agree. It's a pretty damn good hack'n'slash game. My only regret is that the world, despite being huge and despite the "areas" being large, it is essentially a straight line. You don't wander a whole continent - you wander along a preset path which you can't wander off. It sorts spoils it for me in single player - but not in multiplayer. Dungeon Siege should have a long life in MP.

    North Carolina any good?

Hey all, The wife and I have been looking into Raleigh, North Carolina for the purposes of living/working there. I was wondering what people here thought of it in terms of weather, people, things to see/do, the prescence of electronic boutiques, etc. Also, we'll be going to visit in a few weeks - anyone recommend someplace to go? Thanks! Erik

    BCM Review @ Canada Computes

quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: You can catch Eric's review here. The editor ended up using the short version. Have no clue what the long version looked like. Ask Eric Heh, just pretend it included all the information that should have gone into the review, in depth, with multiple examples of everything.
