  1. quote:Originally posted by Patgod: ive downloaded the file twice, and recieved the exact same error. the windows installer detects an outdated version, and after hanging for a good while(seems to be installing something, as the hard drive is working quite hard) then proceeds to the installation. then gets the 2355 error. Patgod, Where did you download that from? I recall the day the beta was released, there were a couple sites that had a corrupted version of that file. I got the HC version off of FilePlanet and it works fine. You're experiencing the same error I was getting when I downloaded from a site I'd never heard of before. The 2355 install error. ------------------ Guardian Commander Greg Graham UCV Devil's Advocate External Beta Tester Battlecruiser Millennium
  2. quote:Originally posted by Steve Schacher: You say that you set the color depth to 16 in the config files. What about on your desktop? That should be 16 also. Heh, I think Steve is thinking 16 BIT color. Make sure that your desktop is at 16 bit color as well. It's been the cause of a number of V3 slowdowns. Don't run in 16 color though. Please... B] Manta, I loaded BC:M on my wife's system, which is a T-Bird 800 w/128MB RAM and an eVga GF2 MX card on Win98 and it is awesome at 1024x768. I was considering maxing out at 1600x1200 on her system, but haven't had the chance yet. Your rig should be fine, but I'm not as sure about the OS. There shouldn't be any issues as long as DX8 is on there. Check DXDiag to see if there's anything wrong. ------------------ Guardian Commander Greg Graham UCV Devil's Advocate External Beta Tester Battlecruiser Millennium
  4. quote:Originally posted by Mongrol: A point to SC. Betatesters do not complain about the interface. This is because they are seasoned players of BC, probably for years and have gotten used to it. Heh... That comment made me laugh... I'm still giggling while writing this. If you only knew... heh... I believe that when the multiplayer comes down the pike, I'll be picked on more than just about any tester in the beta. What they don't know is that I've switched their regular brand of coffee with Foldger's Crystals. BTW: I am new to the BC universe and I complain constantly about interface and function. Once in a while something valid comes up, but it's rare. I'm sure Derek sees June bearing down on him so I'll cut him some slack. 5. quote:Originally posted by Dunk: ok think this classes as a vid, or might be general Im getting a really BAD FPS rate in BCM Running an AMD ATHLON 1.1 ghz 320 mb ram voodoo3 2000 PCI (gonna upgrade soon) i run win2k and win98se but i get really baaaad FPS on BCM demo. like 6 to 8 fps. major jerkovision Only program i get problems with, deus-ex and Ground control and everything else i have runs smooth as anything on 1024x768. only this one has probs. Im running the latest drivers. Tried latest official and beta drivers for both w2k and 98 and same results. Dunk, Check your desktop color depth and see if you're running in 16 bit color before you enter the game. If not, change it to 16 bit and ensure that your color options in the config for BCM is also set to 16 bit. That should give you your speed back. ------------------ Guardian External Beta Tester Battlecruiser Millennium
  6. Wonderful resources! Thanks so much! It's giving me a lot to try out. I haven't yet had the chance to upgrade anything yet, so I'll start my first mining mission tonight! Thanks again! Guardian
  7. Rico, Actually, I have some questions about other things in the BC universe. You've all been very forthcoming with the information and I appreciate it greatly. I'll start some new threads after doing a little more research. Is there a newbie FAQ for the BC Universe? If not, why? I know the forums are a wonderful resource, but I'm sure that you guys hate answering the same common questions over and over again. A gameplay FAQ would go a long way. Guardian
  8. Honestly, I just had questions about trading. *weep* Now I'm confused... Thanks all... It's good to see light-heartedness still exists... (I'm slowly being covered with a thick layer of jade after being in the beta forums for a while) Guardian
  9. quote:Originally posted by GREG MILLER: I am sorry you feel this way Guardian. I have used the search function on this forum, and have always found what I was looking for and then some. The real credit for that goes to Derek Smart, for keeping this wealth of information available to us at all times, even though he realy doesn't have to. A fellow Greg... What I meant is that there is a certain forum that cannot be searched through other than by scanning through the threads manually. I try to keep up on that forum, but it's bare of too much newbie information. Guardian
  10. Ahh... Using the shuttle? That's a darned good idea. I didn't realize that it didn't use radine. Subtle, yet effective. Thanks again. Guardian
  11. Is the debris field in the free-flight / roam mode? Or is it just within the ACM? I don't really consider collecting cargo from space to be a valid trading tactic as it really is just scavenging and only involves trading to sell what you've scavenged. If only there were a Universe Today newspaper I could pick up while docked to show trading prices at the various stations that day. So the rule of thumb is to buy a product that the stations specialize in and then sell that product at a place that doesn't. I'll have to print that appendix out to figure out my trading routes. 12. Wold, I appreciate the help. Sorting through these forums is a daunting task. Thanks again. Cmdr Greg Graham UCV "Devil's Advocate"
  13. I haven't found a FAQ or website devoted to the newbie for the content rich BC universe. If I want to go the way of the merchant and sell and trade cargo, what are some tips I can use to make trading a viable career? 1) Any way to scout starbase prices easier than actually having to visit each base? 2) Are there items that will always make a profit or are there items to stay away from? 3) Is there a "safe bet" when trading? 4) Is there a better ship to use for trading? Hopefully this sparks a delightful conversation without riling people up too much. I've got a huge amount of questions and I thought that I'd make use of the forums to ask what I couldn't find out any where else.
  14. It's dangerous what 9 year-olds can do with the web nowadays... Anyway, it was irresponsible journalism to put it as a news item. And not including any proof also hurts his credibility. I've been going to Apu's Hardware for a while, but I've decided to stop. I can get the information they post there from other sites. Guardian
