  1. (RP) 20th/21st May, 3008 GCV-McKendrick, Alec Nova's Guest Quarters It was around midnight when Alec began to sleep. Earlier that night he had thought more about the mission. He spoke some notes in his PDA's Log. (Uh, he doesn't really have a rank, so it ain't a commander/captain's log.) Log 20th of May, 3008. I'm in the GCV-McKendrick. Um, what time is it...... (sound of some junk falling on the floor) It's almost midnight, so it's more like the 21st of May. Well then, uh, the Vulture was destroyed by Gammulans, and most of the other Mercs I had begun to know are now dead. I wonder if I should still go on with the mission. If they don't need me, then I won't need to go anymore. I'm just afraid I'm gonna die or something. I'm only 27. Well, considering most of the Merc compliment died, those chances are slim. I'm just hoping for the best now. I still wonder what I'm gonna do. I signed up for the mission for my Marine skills, so maybe that's it. A land invasion of some sort. Oh well, I think I'm gonna take a short rest. The briefing is happening soon. Nova, out. End Log The corridors outside were beginning to quiet down, as the guests from the Vulture started to calm down and rest a bit. (/RP) (This is starting to get good, waiting until the bloodshed starts....) [ 07-26-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  2. Alright, forget that. Try the driver and other misc updates.
  3. quote:Thorgan: First I Thought freezing only occours at exiting demo but then this does work. Sometime in game I hear the "critical error" sound and my system freezes. Only thing I can do is reboot. While rebooting windows starts and the system reboots a second time. then it works properly. don't know why. Thorgan, I'm thinking BIOS or some driver errors. (note, you might want to print this next part if you can't remember very well; there are a bunch of things to do) /// Do go to cnet (link above), and windows update (ditto). Cnet Catch Up: Go as above, and download anything from microsoft, drivers, anything that says java, c/c+/c++, something about script/scripting--in general, everything system, driver, and machine/virtual machine related. With Win Update, do as above, but download everything except the language packs, multilanguage updates, and any theme packs or screensavers; also, you don't have to download IE 5.5 or 6.0 beta if you don't want to. Also, if there are any updates that require to be downloaded seperately, then download everything excetp it, then reboot and install those one-by-one (hopefully you don't have any or only have 1 or 2). This might take a while. And if those don't work, then try your motherboard manufacturer. Its the system and not the game, for your info. That's pretty much it. Hope I was of some help.
  4. MaHuJa, Um, if it's still crashing, well, check again for "release" drivers, not "beta" drivers. www.cnet.com has a checker for drivers, and any other program updates for windows. Go to cnet.com and look for Catch Up. (update): Hey, since you've got IE and WinMe, then you should get online, open IE, and go to tools->Windows Update to open windows update for some download fixes. Look for a microsoft virtual machine and download all the critical updates. You can also go to www.windowsupdate.com for it. Just have IE and Win 98 or higher.(/update) Update2: Deleted section on bug report. Aye aye, Supreme Commander! 5. Well then, I'll try my hand at it. I'll tie in a little story after Into The Fire, about my character turning from a mercenary to a police. Also, I'm registering in the fleet db. Thanks.
  6. Tac, UCV contains, police, diplomat, scientist, explorer, and lots of other friendlies. Stop being so cruel to all of us non-militants. /// A copy of the Into The Fire Prologue (first paragraph): quote: Somewhere in an insignificant part of the universe, a war raged between two opposing races. One hungered for conquest and dominance, and pressed ruthlessly into the defenders home territories on a mission of genocide while the other fought valiantly to stave off extermination. The first few weeks of the war saw terrible losses on both sides, with the furthest outposts of humanity decimated by the Gammulan incursion and entire fleets of starships left burning, dead in space. The Gammulans, united in their efforts to wipe every trace of humanity from the unnervingly impartial face of the galaxy, had stalled in their momentum, staved of supplies from their distant colonies. Humanity, however, was divided, fragmented. Two factions within fought in an undeclared civil war, weakening the whole and failing to fully repel their would-be conquerors. In times long past, the two factions had united to repel these aggressors, but in the modern galaxy, where the bitterness and arrogance of those that made policy couldnÔÇÖt be put aside to fight a common foe, it seemed unlikely that one faction by itself could deter the invaders. As it stood, both the invaders and the defenders were at an impossible in-pass, unable to press further into each otherÔÇÖs territories and unable to withdraw. In essence, a stalemate. If a 3rd faction shall grow, then all hope is lost. If it's a stalemate at 2 terran sides vs. 1 gam, then what'll happen if we're all split in this big 3 sided war? No one wants to do that. No one's buying in. If you want to make money, make sure humankind survives, so you can actually have consumers, and places to spend your cash. [ 06-19-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  7. Hey, you meant UCV, right? In that case, police would be included, too.... quote: 1. ....NOT to band under one banner, becuase that would take the fun out of BEING ICV, but to fight galcommies from the inside...... 2. Together we could DEFEAT the galcommies and return democratcy to the galaxy, the insurgants would stop because of noone to fight aganst and finally PEACE would return to the galaxy. 3. The cops will still chase the criminals, the radiers will still chase the diplimomats and the gams will still kill the whatever the gams kill. 1. (speaking of working on the inside)......And an undercover police officer would actually be on the inside, exploiting the whole thing, and eventually reveal and ruin the whole plan, preserving the peace, and integrity in the galaxy. 2. Read the BC history, for god's sake!!!! Look up insurgent history in the timeline. Peace and order is something that takes place after decades or centuries of organization, and planning. Just saying "we'll take out galcom and restore peaceful non-corruption to the galaxy" won't make it happen. Don't you understand how big galcom is? Galcom ain't corrupt. YOU'RE CORRUPT, MAN. I think the police should take away you're flying priviliges, too. 3. You're could considered a threat and a traitor at this point, because the police works with galcom. Also, don't you think that saying the Gams kill whoever they used to kill means that they'd continue their destruction of the human race? See below. /// A war like that would leave humankind with almost no open resources, because the new government would have to organize all of the former galcom's stuff, and therefore leave us open to the final Gammulan extermination (according to rpg perspective). See "Into The Fire: Prologue", and the RPG threads (set to show all threads) for more Gammulan War info.
  8. I'm thinking of being police. I wonder if I can do some undercover investigations (rpg idea)? That would be so cool. And that would make the rpg's a lot more complicated and the plots thicker.
  9. ........I'm still here! I've been out and around lately. Boy, even though it's been almost 2 months, there's not much to catch up on. Oh well. (Also, I've decided that in the long run, I want to be Police Caste, so I'll write up a short story, sometime after Into The Fire. I think the police caste can really add some variety to the already-thick RP plots we have here.) Um let's see.... Where was I. Oh yeah! I just got done sending the apology to Blades. (RP) GCV-McKendrick, Alec Nova's Guest Quarters After writing the apology, Alec Nova took a rest. The quarters given to Alec were probably the worst 'guest' rooms given to him. Because of the entire crew evac to the McKendrick, they had to use some prisoner space as rooms for the rest of the people. Later, Nova listened to some music from his PDA and sat in the bed in the room. He pondered what he'd learned so far, and just let his mind flow to get rid of his stress. Holy crap. Top-ranking command scum, always being so perfect, and strict, and uptight. Blades is cool, though. It must've been the booze or the fact that I almost died that I called him a shitty excuse for a FC. Still, he's really gotta work on his people skills. But man, that Somerset guy. Spit-and-Polish my ass. More of that uptight perfectionist crap............ I've never actually seen Rattler before. I only heard about stuff he did. Just the look on his face.... His expressions..... His movements..... The fame.... The power. That must be an incredible feeling. Ah, what the hell am I thinking! I'll never have that much power. I just wish I could do something to help. Something to prove myself. Then all those seasoned uptight bastards won't think of me as the all-talk no-work guy. It was true. Alec's mouth slipped on several occasions, landing him in really bad positions. He had big dreams, but his mind and mouth combined were just too macho for anything. Earlier, before the Vulture left Pixan, the crew was asked which ones would like to be in the mission, and which ones would just stay and serve as guards. Alec volunteered for the biggie. It just may be his biggest mistake................(/RP) Well, nice to hear from you DeSylva!!! I've seen some of your stuff a while back when I was a mere lurker. Great to have more experienced folks around (I just started RP-ing in April). Also, what I was saying about that Police caste thing was that I think having the variations with a police character would be cool. Imagine if one of the people on this mission was a police officer undercover, and what that kind of side plot we'd have to go through. That kind of junk.
  10. hey, is GMV a usable prefix? check with SC first, plz.
  11. Yeah, we could start up that Indie Guild/Corporation now, that I was thinking of. The ideas are still in the indie forum. Let's make it work! I can't wait for multiplayer............ I might not be around for long. My parents are changing our ISP, and I'm not sure about my email address right now. Don't worry, though; I'm sure I'll pull through.
  12. hey, is GMV a usable prefix? check with SC first, plz.
  13. Look back in this forum (change view posts back if you need to; its around March), and check the Station Docking thread. There is a download patch for the 1st demo there, which should correct the station docking sequence, and prevent your crashed in that particular instance.
  14. quote:Yeah I explained that a while back. My character is a former Galcom Officer and when he and the majority of his crew decided Galcom was not for them they just didn't bother to give Galcom their ship back. Anyway, that's a different story. I think that would make you a traitor, Zeke. Doesn't a traitor get the death sentence if caught (depends on where you live)? ......And don't tell me any bull that you're too fast and they'd have to catch you first . Just don't get cocky. Watch yourself; us indies are becoming a target to some Galcom and Insurgent peeps. I'll be floating around. My RL is getting really busy, so I won't be RPing as much until around June/July.
  15. The proof to aramike's statement is here. Check the profile of anybody with member #0. (see Epsilon 5's link above) it displays this: No member profile found for member number end of discussion. member 1 is most likely tin, the web designer who programed this and set it up at first. Check the fleet DB and he will show up as the first person.
  16. We need a name that sounds more specific. More guilds/sects/groups are better, and Multinational Guild of Independent Players sounds too general, and would be like forcing only one. --- Names: -Galactic Alliance of Outlaws (GAO) -Multinational Indie Trade Syndicate (MITS) --- Come on, be creative! I'm thinking Black and Red are good colors, but we're still searching for a good name. What do y'all think?
  17. Hey, Shingen: Stop talking trash about the fleets. Dude, we won't have a job if you bash EVERY SINGLE FLEET!!! --- To clear up the record, indies can be: Explorer, Police, Scientist, Raider, Assassin, Diplomat, Mercenary, Paramedic, Trader, Commercial. For more information, see the Fleet FAQ; Click Here Finally, mercs can do more than trade and be hired for jobs. We can still mine, and do all sorts of stuff. It's just like going under 'free flight' of BC3k, except you are a different caste, and you don't get violations (and no regular paycheck , looks like I'll be living off of trading & job hunting more than usual). But don't worry, I won't attack anyone except if I'm hired to or if they threaten me first. I'll be busy gettin jobs and scoring against gams.
  18. no biggie. i just started lookin' at it recently to see how it was going. The 1st public beta w/new terrain engine expired yesterday (does that mean that the next few demos are coming out soon?). Look at how few bugs are left! Also, i recommend checking the Work In Progress section, too. Both of those show you how close we are to BCM Gold! Shall we begin the countdown (getting close to summer!)? 19. Felt like passing on the word......... quote:Originally posted by Blades (Orion Fourm->Advanced Warning Thread): Im due to skip off on my hols from the 8th May and wont be back in the good old UK until the 16th. As a result, I probably wont have any net access (Deliberate) since all I do at work all day is sit online and fix some damned fools problem and dont really wanna be doin that when I should be relaxing. Just for the curious, Im gonna be back in Florida during that week, stayin at our family retreat in Davenport. Much Disney related shenanigans are expected, and If I get the time, I might even do some sight seeing down in Ft. Laud if I get the time. I hear they have some right weirdos around them parts ... Good luck Blades, have mucho fun, amigo! --- quote:I hear they have some right weirdos around them parts ... lol! remember, the SC lives around there! (Sunrise, Florida, USA) (haha, not like he's a real weirdo; but remember, lots of inventive geniuses have been pretty weird) And remember to relax (being a FC should be tough! ). 20. There is supposed to be support for forest planets and other stuff(BCM Beta Version Control File). Cool! quote: New PTE-II terrain engine implemented as a first pass WIP release. Some notes: -New terrain supports a variety of planet types, including a new 'forest' type. -New terrain supports a variety of weather and wind conditions, which are enabled by on climate zone patterns. -New terrain supports land, water, underground and underwater areas. -New terrain supports gas giants and some with molten or frozen cores. In a gas giant, you will never get to the core if it doesn't have one. e.g Jupiter does not have a core, but its moons, IO, Europa and some others, do. -Compounds are now refered to as 'scenes'...... -A few mission zone and scene areas have been created on Earth, Mars and the Moon. A script will later be written to autogenerate others needed for the planets/moons which are populated. SC, I have to comment to all the hard work you and all the 3000ad Team have been churning out. Keep it coming! Can't wait, man!
  21. Shingen, a few would be nice. 3-6 is cool for me. For now one is good, unitl have enough to actually make more than 2. quote:Originally Posted by Supreme Commander: It'll be nice and quiet.....until someone shows up in orbit and finds a bunch of TTDs huddled in a remote section of a planet. lol, or an OTS nuke. hey, wasn't it somewhere that you (SC) said that there would be some non-combat hangouts? (BCM or GCO?) i remember seeing that somewhere in the site.
  22. Don't worry Shingen. Check "Know Your Role", and I'll wait and make one once I get a name for it. Post ideas there. Know Your Role (Page 3)
  23. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Commander, on the New Commander thread (link in above post): quote: --------------------- You have your work cut out for you. If you want a unified gif you become a fleet. Guess what? Not possible with "indies". --------------------- Indies can have theirs I think, its just that I don't want it abused. I mean, you could have several Raider caste factions, all with a different insignia. Then again, who said there was anything organized about Raiders anyway? Hmmm. Just wanted to bring this up. C'mon, the SC said it................. If someone makes up some sort of name, I can make an animated gif, when I get around to it. If it isn't abused, like Derek said. And, if its okay with him.
  24. Thanks for the support, Joaquin. (Wow, 26 posts since Dec 98!) I also heard some talk by SC about some non-combat areas on certain planets where players can "hang out". Something like that is what I'm thinking of. Also, there's more anti-indie stuff goin' on. Click here and go near the bottom to where they talk about the Indie logo. Hey, what's a good name for this (guild/group) we're talkin' about?
  25. As I said again, welcome Straker. (Applauds) I was (and still am) thinking of joining a fleet. So far, I seem to be making more enemies as I go along, so I think I'll stick with you guys. So, does Mercenary or Police sound better? I don't want to really get shot at, and the Insurgency is already after me. I'm merc for now, though, until BCM multiplayer (then I make my final decision). --- Hey, here's an idea from a while back. Why don't we have some mini alliance of indies? Not really an organization, its more of just simple "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine." stuff. People inside help out other insiders, and we can go on missions together. The idea should get us more indies here. We could set up bases for only members (in galactic command online, base commanders can control a list of groups or users who can dock and hostiles who always get attacked), and trade routes. We can watch each other's backs. We are all different, have no leader, and don't really take orders. Well, think about it and check it out. One more thing, no one is forced into being in it, we don't have any targets, and our overall purpose is to make sure more people become indies and that indies don't get picked on by both galcom and insurgents (that happened to me first hand). Come on, Galcom has all other Commies on their side basically, and the same is for those Insurgent peeps. What do we have? Nothing. Remember the name of this thread: Know Your Role!!!!!!! We can help assasins and mercs find jobs, help police with criminals (once in multiplayer), and just have what all indies are supposed to have: Freedom and Fun (Hell Yea!!). (and a little action here and there ) We could do this on the message board in the indie forum and on the BCM Multiplayer system and GCO. We're just like a little "Indies Anonymous" organization. Just for fun (too much time on my hands): (RP) The first meeting. "Hi everyone, I'm Alec Nova." "Hi Alec!!!" "My ship's called the Dark Outlaw......." (continues) (/RP) And if you don't like the idea, don't flame. I probably won't remember this until I read this board tomorrow. RL is calling!!!!! C ya.
