  1. Sounds about right, if you've got a 28-56k connection. (Which fits into my category.) And, yes, the DX8.1 file is 11.5 MB. (At least the one I got from microsoft.) SC was probably looking at some other file. Download and install, at will, Commander McMahon!
  2. Couldn't get the Navitron to crash to desktop again.... Even after multiple tries. Bah. Regard this as a false alarm, and keep the Medpacks away from me, please. I think I've gone and had 'em again. (Voice inside saying: "But it smells good... You know you want them...") But the thing about clicking and having it say Chalinis is true. Try it yourself. Go into the Navitron, and start clicking repeatedly on a planet. Sometimes it will say the planet you click on (like Midae/Omicron Eridani), but sometimes it says some other planet (like Chalinis/Alpha Gamma--or was that Gammula?). I even had it say Madride/Madride, which isn't even in the Full Game universe (only IA). Just wanted to bring this up. Could cause all sort of problems, especially if someone logged off, making it try to find a path to one of the IA Planetary Zones. (Like the Madride one I just described.) Sorry for wasting your time, SC. If I have any more problems, I'll holler. Feel free to close the topic now. (All the crashes seem random and so far and few between right now, so.... I'll mark this as a False Alarm, now.) Nova, over and out.
  3. 1. Both instances of the crash. 2. Will do this exclusively, then. 3. In the Navitron, it displays 3 lines: Current Location Previous Destination Current (I think) Destination The Current Destination one said Chalinis. I was at Pluto (and that's what it said in Current Location). My Navitron screen was 100% in the Terran quadrant when I clicked on Midae and, I'm sure I clicked on Midae. Oh, I'll try to reproduce the crash again, then re-install and see if I patched it right. [ 11-23-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  4. It also seems to work if you just put the mcmdr.bmp or fcmdr.bmp image in the FRONTEND folder; you don't even have to touch the .zip file. It reads the files in the directory instead of the ones in the .zip file. At least it does on my end.
  5. Crashed twice in Navitron. Both of which, I was running a Ter/Sci career, with a Genris, from the Gazer1 station in Pluto. Both of them, had the destination to Midae. First time: Started the career. Launched, and opened Navitron. I clicked on Midae, but the thing said the destination was Chalinis (Alpha Gamma). Clicked it again, it finally said Midae. On exit, it crashed. Second time (a lot longer): Started career. Launched. Set Navitron to head to Midae. Just as I was nearing the Wormhole to Centris, I get some intruders on my ship. Marine 6 dies quickly. I'm looking in Perscan most of the time from here on in. I capture one of the intruders as a prisoner. Just as I'm doing that, I'm hyperjumping to the Tramis jump gate. (I'm in Centris right now.) 3 more intruders come in. When I reach Tramis, I decide to make the CC halt, and I take a step outside the ship. After a few minutes, I decide to get back in. I manually set the ship to HJ to the Treas gate, and I'm off. I open up the Navitron, check if I'm still set for Midae (and it did say I was), and head into the Tactical computer, to modify some of the marines' orders. (The ones who were going off duty, I had go back to search duty.) When I logged off, it went CTD. System Specs (again ) Celeron 500 192 MB Ram ATI All-In-Wonder 128 (Rage 128, 16MB--4.14.7192 drivers) Windows ME DirectX 8.1 1.0.01 Patch and (revised) World Script Update The old CTD When Leaving Navitron was supposed to have been fixed in the Beta patch, so I'm guessing this is a whole new ball game. Yep, I double checked the VCF, didn't find it, and decided to post. I'll try to reproduce this several more times, and report. Can someone try what I've outlined above (at least doing Ter/Sci, Genris, Gazer1, and set Navitron to Midae)? Or has anyone else had CTDs from the Navitron still, even with the patch? Don't know if this is truly constant or whatever. (That's why I've marked this "pending research".) I'll try some other caste or launch base and see if Midae or other destinations are causing problems. And if this has been fixed or already noticed, then I've written a useless, long post. 6. SC, this even happened after I picked up no damage in battle, and/or I fully repaired myself after battle. Also, if you view another object (say, for example, Orion Starstation), or even the CC by pressing F9 or F10, you could still see the starbursts. But if you zoomed out far enough, they didn't exist. 7. Hehe. Well, he still is Tac, after all. Still wacky, still crazy, still sniffing those Medpacks. (He's got wits now, at least.) Hm. Pre-patch, I launched from the Insurgent station, New America, as a Ter/Mil....... I get control of the ship, try to planetfall as fast as I can to get away....... Too slow. Sliced me in two like a piece of bread. But playing as a SF Marine was probably the coolest experience I've had yet. Try it, and get used to the controls. You'll be impressed when you shift to the outside cameras, while walking on a station or ship. (F9 key)
  8. I had a similar, or exact same problem.... Don't know, because I don't know what the Transporter Effect looks like. Never used the transporter. I play, and after an hour or so, or after a battle, I might start seeing little effects flash on my screen. This usually starts after I leave a station or load a game, after or during a big battle, or no battle but after 14:30 game time. If you go into BC Studio (at least the version that used to be on the site for download), it looks like the "Armor" effect. In the game, it does those little effect things on the screen all over the place. I also had this in the E2 Demo after playing for a long time. Finally, even if you quit, restart the computer and such, when you load hte game, it persists. But when you start a new game, or go in another file that didn't have the problem, you don't get it. (So, it seems to be carried over by the save file.) Celeron 500 192 MB Ram ATI All-In-Wonder 128 (Rage 128, 16 MB; 4.13.7192) Windows ME DirectX 8.1 I seem to be having all the bugs... Aw, and I just rid myself of the Tacops Observe one, the Wrong Object, the Navitron, and the Debris Field ones. (Or at least worked around them.) [ 11-23-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  9. Also, I'm thinking a thing like a live manifest database could be on a BCO wishlist. (BCO: Battlecruiser Online, the massively multiplayer online sequel to BCM----formally called Galactic Command Online: GCO) Traders could go to some part of the site, or go into some part of the game interface, where they can see a customized list of items at specific favorite places. And they can also get a total listing of the items and all the stations. I'm thinking something between a mix of stock market tickers, and those EP and Combat Kills counters on the Fleet Database. All in BCO, of course. [ 11-23-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  10. No. I don't think so. Prices fluctuate frequently, so you'd have to print out a new copy by the time you found a station with decent prices. I'm, for now, making a guide on the Inflation, Tech, etc. for Stations in the game, at the start of the game. This stuff used to be in the BC3k appendix, but it ain't in the BCM one. Leaves some exploring to do, so it's cool. And it gives me something to do while I'm bored.
  11. I'm an expert at planet-side operations. I guess all that E2 Demo practice paid off. Hm.. I never needed invincibility... So chief, what's the ETA on PlayMOD?
  12. Hm.. I've never heard Gallion go w00t, before...... Now you know he's got something scary cooked up.
  13. lol. Too late there, sonny boy. Did you read the entire thread, or are you being foolish again?
  14. Re-download the BCM World Script Update at the Downloads page (link above). It corrects the Tacops observe issue. That means the one with the Moon and Mars and any others that made a CTD on Observe. (Announcement Thread Here) Haven't gotten a chance to test it, but I trust that it works. 15. 32. Shove Resnig out the airlock. 33. Fly around and run him over with the CC. --- Hm.. What to do after deploying the drones...... Let's see... Without the Debris Fields, I've been making my money by tractoring enemy ships to local friendly stations..... Heh, 75000 GalCreds for towing a Gam or Insurgent... And then you get 2000 EP, so it isn't too shabby. It's just the fact that they're shooting at you up until the point that you tractor them that makes it a bit tough. And then you've got to remember that activating your tractor lowers shields......
  16. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: I will completely disable that test field in the final patch and put them all back in once I figure out the best way to handle it without being subject to the cheats the vets are used in BC3K v2.0x. Cheating? We weren't cheating... quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: Good post Nova! Thanks, SC. I'm the Newbie Welcome Wagon, it's part of the job description. (Giving the newbies some help and tips before they even think of posting.....) quote:Originally posted by Fendi: Don't say that Mel!!! It's the only system that agrees with me and there's no chance in hell that I'm going to revert back to WIN98SE or install WINXP. Yes WINMe does have memmory problems but I got around it with ramidle. Sure....... That may be true, on whatever planet you're from. WINMe is the most unstable OS I've ever had.... I'm upgrading to XP first time I get the chance. But I'll try that download, to see if it helps. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: BCM is NOT forgiving in ANY shape or form when it comes to its requirements. ANY deviation from the requirements and operating conditions, CAN and WILL cause problems. Unlike more developers and publishers, I don't post bogus system requirements. While they may be steep, thats because BCM was designed for the high-end - being a niche title and all. Damn straight! Being in battle brings my system down to it's knees! The only thing I can say, is it's incredible! (The battles, not the slowdown. ) And even the graphics out of battle, especially the way the models are scaled realistically. Very impressive. Hm.. The score's 8-0-1 (I consider the Debris Field a compromise, so it's a tie, until it's back later.) Watch those bugs fall and beg mercy at our feet!!! Mwahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!
  17. quote:Mine crashed when carrying my BC MK 1 by tractor beam into orbit with shuttle. As soon as I hit Y to go into orbit the game CTD. Good news, $ilk.... I had that happen, too. My ship was damaged as hell, planetside on Centris. I had no more medpacks, so the folks in the medibay weren't gettin healed as much as they should have. Then, there were the people who were radiated. Luckily I still had Vacpacks, but they still didn't heal as much as they should have, so I decided to leave the CC behind (it probably wouldn't even take off w/all that damage), I put myself in a shuttle, and took off, to go buy some Medpacks.... Press O as I get to the orbit point, press Y, and it's CTDed again. --------- And everyone just remember what SC said. The Debris Field in Earth is the only one that's in the game (at the moment), and it shouldn't even be there. It'll probably be removed this coming patch, and if he fixes it's workings and optimizes it then we'll have our good ol' Debris Fields all over the place, like in BC3k. Tips: -Don't use the Debris Field right now. -Don't observe Earth's moon or Mars until more information comes in on this bug. -Don't capture one of the glitched supply stations that looks like hte station it orbits. (World Script patch fixes this, so if you've got it, you won't be able to do this.) -If you've got the Navitron problem, download the Beta patch. If you don't, well, do it anyways. -Finally download that World Script patch. It fixes the Tulon (Arima), Pixan (Lennen), New America (Midae), and other stations, in which the supply station orbiting it becomes a clone of it, which could cause severe glitches. As I said above, don't capture them if you don't have the patch yet. (Get the 1.0.01 Beta Patch and the World Script update at the BCM Downloads Page. Oh, and the Beta patch and (probably) every other patch after, will require DirectX 8.1.) -Get your latest OFFICIAL drivers from your driver manufacturer's site. (That means you, Zuul. Head back to the 21.83, just in case.) --- Now once you've read these tips, try those steps that gave you the problem again. That's what I've been doing this whole time. The 2 that Zuul have, and the new one that $ilk brought up are pretty much the only one's I've verified. Anyone else have these problems? And those who don't, what are you running on? (More specifically, what OS, Melanie. ) I'm dead sure about the Debris Fields, but can some other people verify the Observing Mars & Earth's Moon CTD? And are there anymore that are experiencing the CTD that $ilk and I had? That is all. Nova, over and out. [ 11-23-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  18. quote:For Carriers I like the Violon - look at the appendix and you will see why. Didn't I just say how manuverable it was? And it's speed! I'd take a Violon over a Stormcarrier/Firestorm/Aestrom. Then again, if I had Fleet C&C, I'd probably take one of those Super Carriers, just because. In other news, I just took a walk on the outside hull of a Firestorm, while in battle. Whoo!!! Extremely impressive, while watching lasers fly by.
  19. Hm.. The moon froze, pre-patch and post patch. The Earth didn't freeze at all. Guess I was somewhere else, after all. (Centris looks similar from Tacops. ) But observing the Moon (Earth's Moon) does cause a CTD. So the patch didn't seem to fix that problem in particular. (Was it that problem it was supposed to correct? I might be wrong. I've got such a short term memory...) Also, just downloaded the World Script fix. Hehe, I actually captured one of the glitched supply stations....... Don't really know what kind of havoc it'll do on my save files, though... (Update: I've pretty much varified the crashes about the moon. At least 5 tries, and all of them with a CTD, even after my fresh re-install and patch. Can anyone else back this up? Also, my poor save files are gone. Ah well, I was just experimenting; now the real fun starts!) [ 11-23-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
  20. quote:Posted by Supreme Cmdr: Thats just temporary until it can be revised and finished. Great. But I guess I'll keep the trading routine in the meantime. quote:quote: ---------------- Originally posted by Zuul: On a side note though, I am experiencing the same exact problems when I try other actions, such as flying the CC to the moon, go into Tacops mode, and the second I hit the Observe button BAM! Same exact results. ---------------- You haven't installed the patch, have you? I'm having that problem, too, with the patch. Oddly, it never did this before the patch. Post-patch, I've already tried and CTDed it, on observation of the Moon, Earth, and Mars. Centris had no problems. I'll re-install to see if it was the patch, because I know I got to Obseve Earth before I got the patch, and it crashes now. I'll report back soon.
  21. No debris fields anymore? *sigh* (I'm a BC3k-er.) Roger that SC. I did notice a huge slowdown, just as I'd enter the Debris Field, like you said.
  22. I've got Zuul's problem. (So you're not alone after all.....) Used a Violon, launched from Orion (Centris). Played around, fought some enemies, and after all that, I decided to go to Earth for some Debris Field sweeping. I had my shuttle tow me to Earth (I do this for speed and conservation of my radine), and fly me to the Debris Field. After I was there, I had him unlock the tow, and go on a cargo sweep. Nothing yet. Then, I head over to the Shuttles menu you get from the CC Icon, and then told all shuttles (the other 3 were still in CC and ready to launch) to Cargo Sweep. Just as I clicked, it crashes to desktop. System Specs: Windows ME Celeron 500 192 MB RAM ATI All-In-Wonder 128 (Rage 128-16 MB) (Latest drivers-4.13.7192) DirectX 8.1 Crashed both before the Beta patch and after I patched. Tried this about 5 times. Does it every time. Disabled the System Restore feature of WinME. I manually set my Virtual Memory to 512MB. Defraged my system after I installed BCM. Cleared/compacted my RAM before running game (using one of those utility things), and closed every background program. Now, the common denominator between me and Zuul is Windows ME. Anyone else have this problem? Especially if you've got another OS. Follow the steps I've described. (Launch, go to Earth (if not already there), fly to Debris Field, have marines or pilots in all shuttles and use the shuttles menu to give all shuttles the cargosweep command.) The Beta patch covered all the other problems I've had; game's solid as a rock. If you need any more help, I'll try to be around tonight.
  23. quote:Wait until you really get into a furball engagement (20+ craft) then watch your computer come to a grinding halt. Heh, it doesn't need to be 20 craft. Hear this: 2 Gam/Mil ships come in from nowhere, and start attacking. I'm near the Orion Starstation. In about 2 minutes, the station launches 20-30+ SF Marines.......... I have a Celeron 500 and a Rage 128 (16MB)......... It turned from a 40-50 FPS thing to less than 9FPS.... I know I'm upgrading soon.
  24. Oh, and the Playmod utility is being brought up to BCM. There's gonna be a release soon. If you haven't played BC3k with playmod, it's basically a cheat utility. You can modify a ton of stuff. If you've got BC3k, check it in the GBS/cheats folder. You can give yourself instant Fleet C&C from there. You can even create guests and prisoners! Heh, I'm bringing my friends and family on board!
  25. I was playing around Centris, and saw a Gam/Merc Stormcarrier, with an RTB to Orion..... (See here for the story, and screenshots.) So it was $ilk..... That ship is huge! Really cool stuff. ----- My latest BCM experience was when I was down on the surface of, I think, Midae (had to hide from "New America" somewhere; I was Ter/Mil), and when I had the autopilot land, I didn't realize that there was a slope on the way.... (That was probably only the 2nd time I used the land command. Was still trying it out and testing it.....) The ship goes down nice and slow, and then you hear *boom*, *scratch* *scratch* *bump* and I stop. Down to 70% integrity. Can't even take off under my own power. Can't launch a shuttle, because my reactors are down. Life support was down, as well. So I decided to leave the ship for a little walk around the planet, while everyone inside the ship was dying, gasping for air. I think I'll land with my own skills, like I'm used to from now on. Yeah, I'll let Mother handle things like Inter-system navigating. Leave the planets to me, please. [ 11-22-2001: Message edited by: Cmdr Nova ]
