  1. Nice quote there, Eihort. Anyway, this would be interesting to see, but I've always been an advocate for originality, so unfortunately you won't see me giving much support.
  2. It annoys me so much... before BCM was released, everyone thought the Questar was ugly, and I was the only person to select it. Now, everyone and their sibling and their relatives want one.
  3. I should clarify... new Campaigns appear in this fashion. Simple scenario scripts appear in Instant Action.
  4. While we're on the subject... Don't take on a Battlecruiser with a Sabre MLS Space Assault Rifle. Don't attack a naval fleet in an APC on the seabed. And don't shut off your reactor to conserve radine and then go watch a movie.
  5. If you choose Roam as your career from the beginning, you get to select them from Miscon when you're logged into your launch base at the start of the game. Try it now and you'll see the two current campaigns available.
  6. Good question! I was actually thinking of having a pleat running down the sides, but now I'm not so sure... I'll have to think it over.
  7. Back onto the subject of my uniform, the blouse is green (and will remain that way ). The slacks are khaki. I don't have a picture of the slacks available, though. But how many people need to see what a pair of slacks looks like?

  10. quote:Originally posted by Simparadox: do the Explorer and Diplomat castes have some special ability that can be tied into mission objectives? Something that would allow me or someone else to make a scenario/campaign that could only be realistically completed by these castes? This is where the history of the galaxy comes in. There is lots of political strife happening in the BCM universe! A diplomat could have a mission where they have to rendezvous with allied soldiers in a conflict zone before both sides tear each other to bits. The enemies would leave the system peacefully. A diplomat could have a mission where they must pick up key delegates from various nations and carry them all to GalCom HQ for a meeting. A diplomat could try to negotiate the surrender of enemy forces that have besieged a lonely outpost. As for the explorer, someone already filled in that gap. But there are many other things you can do -- forward observations of enemy movements, for example. I.e. an explorer gets hired by a private party to locate an enemy invasion force. If the invasion force gets there first, you lose. If you find the invasion force first, you win and get payment because you warn the defenders of impending attack. Use your imagination -- by themselves, castes don't have much apparent use in ROAM, though as the Castes entry in the appendix shows, they do have uses in general. It is up to you to make ideas based on those uses and turn them into full-fledged scenarios.
  11. quote:Originally posted by Supreme Cmdr: 1. No Dang. quote:2. Read the manual about how the throttle setting affects the 0-9 keyboard settings I did a long time ago... what I meant was a way to specify an offset to the maximum and minimum, because (despite proper calibration -- other games verify this) BCM only registers in the range of 2% to 98% on the throttle, which leaves me stuck shutting off the throttle to attain flank speed. quote:3. Get a new joystick I'd love to, but this joystick was new to begin with (I got it in May), and I don't have lots of chump-change handy . I'd register a complaint with the manufacturer, but we all know how far complaints go with companies like Logitech: Complaints: We'll have to direct you to our tech support department. [15 minutes later] Tech Support: Hello? Oh, you'll want to talk to our complaints department.
  12. I'm just curious if there could be a configuration option that lets us set the minimum amount of motion that the stick needs to be moved before it registers motion. Likewise, a maximum and minimum on the throttle would be nice... Reason: My joystick is slightly loose on its gimbals, and so every time I let go of the stick, it doesn't return to its immediate centre and I have to use Ctrl+Alt+J. Plus, other people might experience similar problems. (I'd have posted this in Tech Support, but despite posting my specs to the best of my ability I'm not allowed to do that in there. Also, I'm not sure whether this would classify as tech-support-genre, since it's a request for future functionality, not a perceived error.)
  13. Anyone who escorts traders should remember how GalCom would react -- and the best way to see this is by playing in Campaign mode. You hop into a system, some baddies are spawned, and you go about your business as fast as possible. If baddies start targetting you, or you're in a patrol zone, or you've got lots of time, you chase them and blow them apart. Otherwise, you just sit non-chalantly as they tear apart other people while you lick your wounds from the battle or try to get to your destination quickly. Believe me, considering the fleets will be constantly negotiating various combats, they'll have little time to bail out shipments of goods. (Unless, of course, you offer a hefty bribe. ) That's what us Police are for -- we get paid by the government to clean out Raiders and Criminals, and at our discretion we can always help people out.
  14. I'd be there too, though I'd definitely prefer IRC.
  15. Oh... footnote. Before I start getting more annoyed... what exactly is peoples' aversion to green anyway?
  16. By definition, a blouse is a uniform. In common lingo it is a woman's shirt, but it is a serviceman's shirt in military terms. (So do the darned research! ) Also of note, a blouse is also, by definition, a long shirt worn by English workers in medieval times. The blouse I've made combines both ideas -- length, and military style. (The sleeves reach a person's wrists -- the outer edge of the sides pass a person's waist and reach the top of their thighs. Note however that the uniform makes an inverted U-shape at the base, which allows movement.) [ 11-26-2001: Message edited by: Spuzzum ]
  17. All right, for your viewing pleasure, I made a copy of the blouse of the uniform.
  18. I mainly chose green because that's the colour of the Terran uniform I had made up for one of my own game design ideas (called "Warrior" -- a massive-multiplayer space game). Actually, on my original version of the uniform, the lining leading down the sleeves is yellow. But I thought that would contrast strangely with the yellow epaulets. [edit] Oh, geez, I didn't even realise that the picture doesn't even show the sleeves. [/edit] I do need a badge, though. As for a hat... I dunno... [ 11-25-2001: Message edited by: Spuzzum ]
  19. Remember that even if your main computer is destroyed (and remember that destruction occurs below 15%), your Chief Engineer will still repair systems if he has a high enough AI. I would be in favour of having an option to tell the SEngineers to go on autorepair, where they would just repair random systems. They'd be fixing up the ship, but since it would be random you wouldn't be able to tell what's going on -- if they had enough spares, what they were repairing, how they're repairing it, what the status is, if they need a replacement, etc. But that's just me.
  20. While we're on the subject of transporter problems, I beamed down a prisoner and a space marine (I forgot that marines 4 & 5 were space marines -- otherwise I would've sent a different one). The prisoner made it. The space marine, though supposedly on the planet (as Roster and Perscan said), was nowhere to be found. (Annoyed, I told the prisoner to go attack a SAL. He didn't fare too well. )
  21. quote:Originally posted by Tac: [*]It would be nice if the unarmed transports carried 80 marines, the armed transports 50 (to give them a military use. The player would have to "recruit" his marines, as the ship would not come with them). That would work well if only aggressive castes could recruit marines. (Which would be an if statement as well as a call to that text-display function if their caste didn't match the criteria, as far as my programming intuition tells me). After all, you don't want traders levelling a raider camp.
  22. I wonder if anyone is radically opposed to wasting 3,000,000 on a Bugnor, aimed at a little TTD on the planet's surface. Or, 1,500,000 for a new shuttle after you blow it apart. "Why? Resnig?" "Yup." I wonder how much fun it would be to shoot Resnig yourself... too bad you can't customise your inventory as a commander, or I'd order him to run away while I blow off his legs with a BMP-9. (Actually, I'm not radically opposed to Resnig, but it's fun being sadistic. )
  23. quote:an on/off switch That's the funniest thing I've ever read.
  24. Wow, thanks, guys! The only reason I chose that picture over all others is because it's the most recent I have. (It's pretty much the only picture of me since I was 16, and that one looks five years younger, despite being but one year younger. ) At least I touched it up! Notice the nice transition between the uniform and the background. Only problem is I got a little messy with the smudge tool on the left side of the picture between the uniform and the neck. Also, my head is a little lopsided since I was sitting at an angle in the picture. But, since I really do consider myself a jack-of-all-trades, I have ways of straightening that neck out... (I have powers! OOOOOoooooOOOOOoooooOOOOO!) All-in-all... oh well. [edit] Hmm, I have an idea for a niftier background... ...and, if glasses are non-existent, that can also be remedied. Heck, I can even turn that bored expression into a smile. [/edit] [ 11-25-2001: Message edited by: Spuzzum ] [edit 2] Wait a minute... I just realised that's a GalCom uniform. [/edit] [ 11-25-2001: Message edited by: Spuzzum ]
