  1. happened to me too, and i also launched the shuttle, but instead of just running to the base to buy radine, i towed the whole BC home. the shuttle┬┤s tractor beam is immensely powerful, and it holds on the BC even when you hyperjump.
  2. my, my, my, what is this talk ? reminds me of the situation in Mankind (by cryo). i have a clan... sorry, a federal republic ( ) in this game, which i consider to "transplant" into GCO. we┬┤re just some 15 citizens, but i very much doubt that we will join any of the existing fleets, such vultures that you are
  3. when i fire the laser turrets manually, they always tend to fall to "deck level" when i rise them. this makes targeting nearly impossible (except when you shoot at buildings). is this intended ? or do i just have to push some button to make it go away (similar to "decouple" for the IOD) ? and if it is indeed intended, what is it supposed to simulate ? gravity of some sort ? or are the cannons attached to rubber bands ? i promise, i will ask no more questions after this one
  4. ah, alright then. i just interpreted your response as "you don┬┤t need to know how it works, just do the other trick"... sorry. please leave this thread here, so that other newbies won┬┤t waste their time trying to figure it out ;-) i don┬┤t mind if it doesn┬┤t work. i just got mad because it seemed that everyone knew how to do it, except for me; and that no one cared to explain it to me... so, sorry if i wasted your time *again*
  5. p.s.: i know how to perform this task using waypoints, as i was suggested. but i don┬┤t want to, for 2 reasons: 1. the option to do it through the TLM *does* exist, so why not use it ? unless it actually doesn┬┤t function (then why is it there ?). according to the manual, it *should* work. either the manual is mistaken, or it lacks some vital bit of information. 2. deploying 4 ATVs through the TLM would require 13 clicks. doing the same through TACOPS would require four times as many, and would comsume way more time than through the TLM, time which you may not have in dire situations.
  6. to transport people: 1. send your crewmembers to the transporter. 2. wait until they get there. 3. go to TACOPS and zoom to the desired location. 4. click on the upper left corner to open the waypoints menu (too many acronyms, i can┬┤t remember the proper one :mad . 5. when your crewmen have arrived in the transporter room, a sign saying "TRANS" will light red. click on it. deploy. but then of course, you can read all about it in the documentation, chapter "TACOPS". 7. ok, this is my one and only, but utterly frustrating problem i have with BC3K. i have asked this on another thread recently, but i received no useful answer (apart from the suggestion that i have to do it the "right way" *doh*). probably the question was a bit out of place, as the thread was on another topic, so here it goes again: the TLM (tactical launch menu) is located to the right of the main view. you can issue orders to your escort ships from there. there are a variety of orders you can issue, some of which work (launch, RTB etc) and some just simply *DON┬┤T* work. EVER. among them are the vital "deploy" and "collect" orders. i want to do some mining, so i launch my 4 shuttles. i click on their icon in the TLM and select "deploy->drone" --- no response. i tell the shuttle to hold first, and then to deploy the drone --- again no result. i go to tactical->launch->shuttle#->deploy drone --- nothing. only when i switch to the shuttle and do it myself if will deploy the dreaded drone. same as above for ATVs. same as above for collecting of drones. fortunately you can order an ATV to RTB, so you don┬┤t have to rely on the shuttle for that. am i the only one who experiences this ? does it work for you ? am i missing something ? is my crew just too stupid to perform those tasks on themselves and do i have for them to gain AI ? what is going on ? like my son, when he puts a lego in his mouth and refuses to open it or spit it out. only way to make him give up the lego is to lure him with candy. perhaps the shuttle needs some persuasion as well *arms the IOD* [ 07-28-2001: Message edited by: Apollon ]
  8. i burned some insurgent bases on earth. as i don┬┤t trust my pilots, i got down there with my battlecruiser. hop into an ATV and take out the SAMs. then you can take care of the bunkers with the BC, while the ICs distract the fighters. there aren┬┤t many of them anyway, just 1 or 2. you get around 100 EPs for each building you destroy. after i burned all the buildings, i recall my ICs and head for GALCOM for repairs. if there are survivors, i spare them. usually some GALCOM marines will appear and assist you, but they aren┬┤t too effective. but take care you don┬┤t kill any of them by mistake. i think that it takes away some EPs if you do.
  9. i quit. your solution worked at first. i even got to load a savegame, but after 10 seconds it crashes to a corrupt, funny colored desktop. from that point my computer is frozen and i have to reset. i did it twice. i now bow to my fate and will leave the dreaded WIN version for those who know how to handle comuters professionally. and i was going to design a whole new bridge graphic... *sob*
  10. here are my top 3: 3. the canyons and odd-shaped mountains of venus 2. the dark side of mercury: black ground with little lakes of lava 1. the rings of uranus it disappointed me however a little that uranus had no thick layer of clouds. the frozen surface should be way, way beneath the outer layer of clouds. i haven┬┤t been outside the sol system yet, so there will probably be more wonders of nature out there.
  11. hmm, my intro.ani is 42.520.576 bytes long, which is a difference of 3.649 bytes from your 42.516.927 ! how┬┤s that possible ? p.s.: your bc3k.bat is identical with mine.
  12. well, this is the content of bc3000.ini: [bC3000AD] ;cdrom drive letter. Set by INSTALL or if user relocates game after install cdrom=C:Bc3000ad ;Home directory. Set by INSTALL or if user relocates game after install home=C:BC3000AD ;current game version. Usually updated by install and patch updates version=2.09 + map pak ;installation type. Full, Medium, or Small install=Full ;location of PTE config & texture files. If blank, Home directory is searched ptefiles=bc3lib3.res ;Installed language language=english as you can see, i installed it again, this time directly into C: (since the SC noted that it would not run in a folder named with more than 8 characters), and . again, the bc3k3dfx.bat runs smoothly (like it did when it was located in the folder "programme"), while bc3kwin-full.exe still won┬┤t run. i think that the name of the parent folder had nothing to do with that, or else the DOS version wouldn┬┤t run either... thank you all for trying to help anyway... i┬┤ll just go on playing in DOS mode.
  13. oops as "programme" is the default name for "programs" in the german version of windows, it never crossed my mind that it could have any impact. obvious when you are used to "programs", but for me it was just something i took as given. sorry for wasting your time. i know, that┬┤s embarassing... silver fox will most certainly have exactly the same reason for not being able to run it, as he is german, and will probably have his parent folder also named "programme". thank you for your time, and excuse my foolishness.
  14. hacking ? i can┬┤t even program HTML, let alone touching some EXE ok, here it goes: Regardless of whether the path in the INI file points to a valid CD-ROM or a hard drive yes, the INI does point to the proper directory on the gard drive. it will check for these files and sizes on the CD-ROM (actual CD-ROM or CD-ROM= path stated in the INI file). If it finds them, then you won't be prompted. ANIM3klogo.ani (file size 1400233) ANIMbcintro.ani (file size 42516829) both files are present in the directory "BC3000AD/anim". i moved them directly into the parent directory, but still got the same result, so i put them back again. so that shouldn┬┤t be the problem. now for the hard part: try adding /d1 to the shortcut to the bc3kwin.exe or bc3kwin-full.exe files and see if that works. where exactly am i to add "/d1" ? when i open the properties of the shortcut, i get only 2 tabs. one says "general" and the other "shortcut". under "shortcut" there are the following text fields: path: C:ProgrammeBC3000ADbc3kwin-full.exe execute in: C:ProgrammeBC3000AD keyboard shortcut: none display in: normal window (pull down menu). i have windows 98 SE. well, anyway, it┬┤s not that important, as i can still run it from bc3k3dfx.bat without problems.
