  1. I think most know that people are the problem. None want to do anything about it because nobody enjoys being labeled a problem. Would you want someone to try to "fix" you? (pardon the pun) That feeling is the "problem" with people. Most don't want anyone to try to "fix" them. They want to "fix" themselves, they don't care, or they don't understand their own problems. In the end, someone brings in a scapegoat and the cycle continues. Sucks, but not something that is easily rectified in a population of millions of people, all with different beliefs and values. That's another thing: No one likes having values forced on him or her. Would you want someone keeping you from accessing the Internet because they thought it's an evil, pr0n-filled realm of anonymity and chaos? Er, rambling...must sleep. Night all.
  2. Don't forget: RANDOMs make great stocking stuffers!
  3. Anybody willing to answer some questions about the creatures of the books/movie over email, as not to give out any potential spoilers? I'm not sure which creatures are which, except for Elves and the Golem/Gollum... Great movie, though. Ian McKellen was great and I loved the looks on Hugo Weaving's face at times. Now I must read the books...
  4. quote: (btw....am I or am I not mad for hearing notes of the "Millenium" theme in when first accessing the BCM main screen?) You noticed it too, eh? Explains your commander name. Welcome to the fray, Frank.
  5. Well, I'm not really a omniparticipant member of this community, but I do my best, and would like to stay with it, so I'll chip my info in here. Primary Email: [email protected] Secondary(checked frequently, though): [email protected] Secondary: [email protected] ICQ: 2776309 Name: XeroZohar
  6. You plan your day around reading this forum. Every time you start a new patched game, you perform the ritual sarcifice of Resnig. Oh, and by the way.... quote: You try to insult a Droidan by calling him a Sega Saturn. That's actually a complement.
  7. Oh boy, I can see MP possibilities here...being able to stick to the bottoms of ships, and still fire.... Strafing runs with 50+ marines(human players, that is) stuck to the underbelly of a BC mk3 anyone?
  8. Thanks Tyrn. Sorry, got a little carried away there. I remembered reading that post before but I must have forgotten. Finals week does that to people.
  9. Oh crap... Um, I have to ask, is a Warmonger a good ship for a Merc? I haven't tried it out in the game yet (finals week and all), and won't until tomorrow night or Saturday... I hope I'm not stuck with that one. "Stuck" as in I forgot to include the ship I wanted when I posted in the Indie forum registration post. Thanks and sorry if this is too off topic... Edit: What the heck? I can't even call up my profile anymore...someone working on the Fleet DB or something? [ 12-13-2001: Message edited by: XenoZohar ]
  10. Thank you Blerm and Mofo, you were really helpful. Oh, and Blerm, you get extra points for the quote in your sig.
  11. Wow, I was just thinking about this stuff last night, since I'm custom building a computer and was trying to figure out just how much space to give everything... Then this thread shows up. Coincidence? Anyway, three questions for you guys along these lines: 1. Is it ok to make, say, 3 relatively small (2-4 gigs) partitions for 3 OS's, and then split the rest into storage areas (like for games, regular software, etc.)? Is there a better way? Edit: The OS's are Win98se, Win2kpro, and Linux, FYI. 2. What is the current size limit for reliable drives right now? I've heard that around 80 gigs (why I would need that much, I don't know...) drives get very finicky, but 40 gigs and even some 60-gig drives are pretty reliable... True/False? 3. Should I invest in Partition Magic or would fdisk be enough for the above partitioning? (See question 1) Thanks guys for any advice. I need it so I can get that new rig up and running quickly without any hard disc related headaches. [ 12-12-2001: Message edited by: XenoZohar ]
  12. Overall nice review, IMHO. I agree with the guy on the sound effects (don't kill me please! ), but I wonder what his review system setup was... Sounds like a lower end video card was used...I have a Pentium 3 600 mhz and GF3 Ti 500 and I haven't noticed any major draw-in/clipping problems. Of course, watch me end up being the devil's advocate... [ 12-06-2001: Message edited by: XenoZohar ]

    Traitor

Er, on an off topic note, I enjoy reading these threads, but I'm not really sure what each term means exactly, like left/right, etc....(yes, I'm politically ignorant, but hey, I'm trying to rectify that situation) Can anyone clue me in or point to a site?
  14. The SC recommends SC cards... Are the Santa Cruz cards generally cheaper than Creative cards? I'm slowly purchasing parts for my new custom job and would love to shave off a few bucks without a drop in sound quality...
  15. Nah, because at the beginning, you're stuck in a space pod and launched...and you must fend for yourself on a desolate planet...from the Gammulan Resnig...
  16. BCM: Tactical Shift. You play as Resnig.
  17. Have a question along the lines of the Special Upgrades... According to the fine appendix and what was said above, the RE has to have a certain AI to be able to install the upgrade artifacts, correct? However, I am able to start a new fully patched game, do one mining op to get about 6-8 mil galcreds, buy the Karanian reactor AND the Tachyon Anagram Shield, and I can install them immediatly. Is this normal(being able to install them immediatly, not getting enough money for them so quickly...)? Do I need to report this? Thanks. Great game, by the way.
  18. Short but sweet...or bitter, maybe. As a Terran/Military Commander, I was on a routine patrol of the solar system, stopping by each planet's sector in the line. At Mercury, things were clear but for one ship, a firestorm, I believe. I tore it to pieces. On to Venus, it was totally clear of aggressives, mainly just some neutrals, so I went back to Earth space and decided to skip Mars for Jupiter sector. Big mistake. As I hypered in, there were many aggressives, trying to take out the Earthcom station at...Ganymede, was it? Anyway, I thought I'd help out our EC "buddies" and went to attacking. I was able to take out a few, but something locked on to me. I don't remember what it was, but I remember finding my closest attacker only a mere 50 km away. The PTA's of that ship must have ripped my hull open, because the bridge crew were screaming damage reports in my ear. Well, systems were going down left and right. Power was being reallocated to whatever needed it, and I was practically dead. Worst part: They destroyed the bridge, killing Resnig(aww, too bad. ), and the ship was forced into autopilot. I tried telling it to hyper out back to Earth sector, but no go. Finally, I heard "Warning, acquisition" and then...game crash. Must've been all the missiles out and about. Kind of anticlimactic, huh? [ 11-24-2001: Message edited by: XenoZohar ]
  19. "uh, I'm sorry, nice Gammulan StormCarrier...but I forgot my Vagrants at home....Can I go get them? Pretty please? I promise to come back....uh,...hey, don't touch that but*BOOOM!*"
  20. Requesting approval for mercenary "duty." (Is that an oxymoron? )
  21. UGH... Am I the ONLY one who is getting tired of all this console bashing? Just pick a console, and go with it. If it dies/you don't like it, tough cookies, go back to your PC/other consoles/both, and sell the sucker for spare computer parts. Let's stop this "that sucks", "no, that sucks", "You suck for buying it" crap. *goes back into lurkerdom with his copy of MGS2* *giggles of delight are heard* Edit: Oh, and check your info again, Scriv. The GameCube has plenty of third party support. [ 11-18-2001: Message edited by: XenoZohar ]
  22. On a hard boss of a new game, on a roll and havn't saved for a while. Boss has about a centimeter of life left, out of a whole screen full. One more hit would do it....and the lights darken for a split second, and I see the game/my PC reloading. ARGH!
  23. quote: The PS2 supports DVD through an add-on that doesn’t really work all that great (The PS2 was NOT designed to play DVD movies). You, sir, are slightly wrong. The PS2 (both Japanese and American) have native support for DVD movies. There is no add-on. Also, the first PS2 in Japan didn't not have the DVD drivers built in, and required them to be on the Memcard, BUT, it came with the software to put the drivers on the card, and gave the PS2 DVD movies support. In Japan, DVD wasn’t really popular among gamers, so this was a brilliant move by Sony, since now gamers would get a Console that have DVD movie capabilities, instead of having to choose between a console or a DVD player. (Consoles won out most of the time). After the PS2's release, the amount of DVD's sold in Japan skyrocketed. Anyway, on to one more thing: Some PC standbys such as FPS don't really belong on a console. Thing is, most who own a console have a computer anyway, so they have the ability to have the best of both worlds. Deus Ex for PS2 is just an abomination, in my opinion... To each his/her own, I guess... Edit: I still say the whole patching thing for newer features is not right... Console developers try to make the game the best it can be BEFORE release, instead of after, and succeed most of the time. Think of it like this: The SC is striving for perfection in BCM, as evidence by the fact there is only ONE patch(not counting the multiplayer patch) in development for the Post-release BCM. Typically, console devs do this, too. They don't have the luxury to just slack off and worry about nagging bugs after release, so the end product you buy is better for it.
