    Hello Orion

    .. been a while.

    Hello Orion

Urghh, busy for the most part. Got married, had a daughter, started a couple of businesses, filed for bankrupcy (heheh) and all manner of other things that have aged me ten years in the last three. So yeah, interesting. Doubt I'm back for the long haul at this time but when things even out again I'll make more time to get back into things. I'll be sure to be a more frequent visitor, however.

    Off Duty

Greetings. As from this date, all ACTIVE commanders from the ORION FLEET are required to make it known if they are going to be abscent from their duties for any period of time. Please post here and let it be known that you are going to be away, and for how long. This allows myself, Commander Greg Miller and Commander Carlton to know who is available to recieve instructions and who's shirking their responsibilities. Your cooperation will be appreciated. ------------------ F.C KARL 'BLADES' SAVAGE ORION FLEET TSUNAMI BATTLE GROUP GCV - TSUNAMI Ôäó www.orion-hq.fsnet.co.uk 'For Queen and country'

Night at the Movies - T3

Heres my handful of coppers for ya. 28 Days Later (IMHO) is more like a remake of the original 60's classic "Day Of The Triffids" rather than NOTLD and it's ilk. Sure it has zombiesque mutants as a back story, but the real guts of the film focusses on the band of survivors and their struggle against nature and fellow man. If you watch this film and recall DOTT you'll instantly spot the comparisons. 28 Days Later is bloody scary though. Nothing has gotten to me like that flic since I watched the original Alien when I was around 13. Now my opinions on past, present and future :- T3 has to be seen. I dont care what anyone says, after Arnies last outing as a fireman in (OMG what was that shite film?) this has to be good. - roll on August. Hulk doesnt really do it for me but I'll watch it on DVD when it comes out. Solaris has me interested, but I know zilch about it. Daredevil (Which I recently saw on DVD) sucks worse than a $10 hooker. Bend It Like Beckham is such arse I actually wanted to lobotomise myself after enduring it for nearly two hours - I suggest you watch Pele in Escape To Victory again instead. Full Throttle has Cameron Diaz and her bottom. 'nuff said. 2Fast2Furious - yawn. The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen has me worried. From the little I've seen and heard about it, there shall be no local shops with local people - so It's got a chance of being entertaining. Throw Sean Connery into the mix (Who incidently looks around 20 years younger in the trailers I've seen) and you got ... well, somthing. X2 I have yet to see but it's on my "Must Watch When It Hits Rental" stage. Lucky Lady - Ok so it was made in 1973 (ish) and is a black comedy about Rum runners in the early 30's but It's got Burt Reynolds, Liza Manelli and Gene Hackman in it and is my 100% favorite film in the entire universe after Aliens. If you've not heard of it, try try try and find it somwhere. Think thats about it for now. Apologies for the long rant - been a few days since I've had the strength to muster up a posting and didnt want to waste it on 2 or 3 trite posts.

    New Official Beta Testers

Hey quantum, Im expecting the iodine treatment so Im all ready for that. Just not looking forward to the isolation. Hyperthyroidism has been the bane of my existance for the last six months - most of it I assumed was because of work stress and a few colds, but after a really nasty period about a month ago I decided to goto the doctors (After about 12 years) and see whats what. Not being a fan of needles, I was instantly horrified at the prospect of blood tests and the like but it was all worth it now I actually know whats been wrong with me and I can get treated. I still dont know all the specifics, but if you have a few minutes to put proverbial pen to PM I would appreciate your insight.

    bccforum.net has been hacked!

Sorry guys, Im not AWOL, just sick. Been a bad 2 months for it and Im not getting treated just yet. It's not life threatening, but it's unpleasent enough to keep me away from computer screens much of the time. I need a dose of radiotherapy to knock it on the head if you after hints. No, it's not cancer (not likely anyway). I'll be in touch.

    Handbook, Battle Group Deployment, Organization

orionfleet.net will shortly be available. It should have been up last week, but my domains guy didnt get round to registering it. As for the avatar thing, I asked you a few weeks ago to change it and I thought that your would do so on good faith. I have also noticed someone else using that avatar as well (Forget the name now). Im going to ask nicely one last time, then Im going to take this directly to Derek. Please dont let it come to that.

    Fleet Wars

Ah, got there before me I see. Oh well, never mind. *ahem* Ok ladies, lets saddle up. War is comming - our war - and the one thing we always done good round here is talk a good fight. Well, now it's time to fight a good fight. I know we're the best. You know your the best. Only problem is, those other muppets think they better than us. You seen those Bunnies talk? Saying they gonna get themselves some Lemming hides? Hell no they aint - not on my watch. All commanders who own and have patched BCMG shout long and hard here about it. You will be counted, acknowledged and put into operational rotation. Those that have yet to purchase BCMG - consider yourselves in drydock. Greg, Im assuming you have your copy all sorted out and patched. Im going to need you to take the helm at certain stages as it's likely I will be unable to attend some engagements due to the transatlantic whatsamathingie. I know you're upto it. Nova, consider yourself promoted to 3IC for recent activities and keeping the home fires burning during senior staff's absense. You're also being charged with the developement and deployment of the NEW Supremacy Battle Group. Please excuse the above dodgy wording, im on medication currently and Im a bit screwy. All orders stand however.

    Vietcong

I think the only real problem I had with this game was the horribly long tunnel sections - that and the fact that your invincible squad had appaling collision detection. I think the language was way OTT - but again I like that kind of realism in a war sim although for most it's probably too much. My absolute favorite FPS experience ever was defending the radio outpost in one of the latter missions. Imagine pouring rain, stranded at the top of a hill will VC and NVA running up the hill to top you - running low on ammo, scared to lean over the walls to get a shot off for fear of catching a bullet in your face - totally cool in a grim sorta way. All in all, good game marred by crap close up AI. 8/10

    Got Mine!

Love the box. Manual is excellent. Runs like a dream and not even threatening to CTD. It's like Im falling in love all over again. Bravo.

    Got Mine!

Mines on it's way. T-50 minutes and counting.
  15. Urghh, this sounds horrible - like a handful of teens who spent too much time roleplaying SpaceMaster suddenly decided it would be cool to make it into a PC game. The concept may be grand, but what little info on the premis they have made available looks like it was hashed up on the back of a character sheet during a sleepover at their rich buddies parents house. Repeat after me - Aerosmith aint cool no more! Gah ... horrible.

Ok, who's using fleet addresses at the moment? Ya'll know theres a problem with the domain so do as the man says and sort your profiles out.

    Leave it to Ubi...

This game rules - plain and simple. However, it's too easy in it's most recent incarnation (With the exception of the stealth missions) so you are better off slapping it up to maximum difficulty right from the get go. I havent tried MP with it yet, but as soon as I start my 2 week holiday this weekend Im going to be dedicating a good few evenings to it. Hopefully this patch will sort out a couple of other minor niggles I've got with it ... In other news, Black Hawk Down kicks ass, although again it's too easy and the lack of adding bots to MP games is dissapointing. Anybody know if theres a follow up to Operation Flashpoint and expansions planned? Now thats a game I would marry and have several big headed children with.

    The Orion Lounge

[RP] "Karl!" Uh oh, this cant be good. Damned plexiglass, how come I didnt notice that logistics had replaced the door? And why the hell did it have to be transparent? Savage resisted the temptation to turn around and run like hell now his cover had been blown, and instead stood perfectly still and looked up as Akuma approached. "Ah, good evening Akuma. It's been a while." Smile damn you, smile! Akuma Minako, former commander of the GCV Tenchi gave the Fleet Commander one of those looks. "What are you doing?" she asked. Savage wrestled with that for a moment. "Um, smiling?" Akuma blinked twice and ever so slightly shook her head. "No, thats not what I mean. What are you doing hovering around the lounge door trying not to be noticed?" "Ah ..." Thats right, it's time to come up with a brilliant excuse to disguise you obvious awkwardness - dazzle her with a deft quip, or bowl her over with some heroic tale about a mission you never really went on with people you never actually met. That'll do for a distraction! "... I was ... admiring the new door. Lovely, isnt it?" Akuma sighed, grabbed the reluctant fleet commander by the forearm and dragged him into the Orion Lounge. He didnt resist, although he couldnt quite understand why. Once again, Akuma was being impulsive, totally disregarding protocal or formality - perhaps even run of the mill common sense - and dragged him up to the small gathering of officers she was previously talking to. "Look who I found." she said matter of factly to the crowd. Savage looked up and offered a weak smile. "Hi there. Hows it going?" [/RP]

    New Community Forum

Remember that new forum post I made a while ago? Well, I finally got round to setting it up. I guess having the BCMG release and impending MP kinda kicked me into action - that and the fact that my workload is finally *almost* under control so you should all expect to see a lot more of me in the future. Hurruh! Just the basic in place at the moment, but enough for you to get started. Old database cant be salvaged, which is a pain, but with the revitalisation of the community as a whole in hand, who wants to be stuck in the past? Get on over to bccforum.net and get yourselves registerd. More to follow ...

    The Orion Lounge

[RP] So how is it going to be? pondered Savage as he half stepped into the Orion lounge and then back out again. Whats it to be? Shall it be a grand enterence, with stiffled gasps, the smooth jazz abruptly stopping and people staring at me like frightened animals in a grav cars lights - or perhaps total indifference, or a casual glance over the shoulder before going back to sipping watered down beer? Savage didnt know, nor did he really care truth be known. His ego, on the other hand, cared a great deal about how his sudden return to the Orion Starstation was going to be recieved. Ego demanded that he be immediately siezed upon by devout followers, smitten young just-out-of-girls-school ensigns and saluted and clapped on the shoulders by peers and relieved looking collegues. Savage, however, wanted nothing more than to slip quietly in, grab Akuma gently by the arm and lead her into a quiet corner and get on with the speach he had been practicing since his return from HQ after the Golgotha incident. Preferably unnoticed - which explained why he was wearing attire to make himself as inconspicious as possible over his Fleet Commanders uniform. Who are you kidding? uttered his ego. You're going to go in there and lap it up like a good soldier. You're not going to opt for the quiet, sensitive option. Quiet you, started Savage, once again arguing with himself, this isnt the time for a fanfare. It's time for decisive action. So how come you're outside the enterence again? Savage looked down at his feet an noticed they had edged away from the door into the louge and shuffled back a few paces. "Dammit." [/RP] Dont get too excited - Im still a good 30% away from being back yet. But getting closer.

    New Community Forum

It's not dead - theres been a screw up with my web host (me, ironically enough) and the renewal obviously hasnt gone through properly. Anyway, the forum.orionfleet.com subdomain is gonna be discontinued in the next couple of days anyway and bccforum.net will take it's place. Glad somebody noticed that - Im too busy to spot such things right now.

    Recall

Attention Commanders of the Orion Fleet! On January 1st 2003 the Orion Fleet will awaken. I expect each and every one of you to haul the lead out of your ass and get your shit wired - we're resuming active status and will take back our hard eared and rightful place as the premier fleet in Battlecruiser Universe. The war has been on pause ... it's time to press play.

    New Community Forum

As of January 1st 2003 this forum is closing down. A new forum is being set up to replace it and help revitalise the Battlecruiser Commanders Community as a whole. Sadly, the old database is not compatible with the new BB software (phpBB) so everyone is going to have to reregister. The old database will be saved, and if at some time in the future a utility is written to allow me to import the old data into the new MySql database it can be done. Please note, the new forum will be located at http://www.bccforum.net but wont be available for population until 12pm (GMT) Wednesday 1st January 2003. Thats all folks!
