  1. You know, the man deserves some respect for getting to the position he's in, but I've got to call a WTF here. Who here thinks, with everything else going on, that freaking hat style is something that deserves attention. Man, if Russia/China were to ever get their act together, now would be a prime time to invade and take over. Our leaders are too busy checking on the latest trends in military head gear to notice anything else. Tell me I'm wrong. Tell me that everything is really O.K. Please, someone give me a reason to have some faith in our military leaders. 'Cause next thing you know, the freaks will deciding whether we should have pink or blue dingleberries in the windshields of our HUMVEE's. Moral boost. What a crock!
  2. Well, from the tests, I'd say the RAEDON has the better 'GPU' in 32bit color mode. However, I trust Nvidia to put out better drivers for the gamer and drivers can make or break any card. So, the question between two giants is no longer "what features are supported" but "who has the better drivers". Personally, I wouldn't touch either. I'd take the 500 and get myself a good flat screen 19" monitor. Then, when the time came, I'd get a GLINT based video card or something with even more horsepower That is, providing I already had a quad processor mobo running xeon's
  3. DREADA, that's completely on topic. The question I pose, though, is: do you know the answer to your own question? I do. It's a simple matter of religion. Jews in Israel realize that they must, by command of God, share their holly sites with other religions. They do their best to abide by this. The Arabs (mostly Islamic) believe that their religion is the only Right religion and are completely unwilling to share ANYTHING. The unwillingness to compromise breeds a mindset in people. Unfortunately, in this instance, its a violent mindset. Not necessarily by nature, but instead perpetuated by religious leaders that have over time twisted their own faith to meet their desires. Instead of a religion that does teach peace, they now have a religion that teaches the only sure way to win favor with Alah is to murder the infidel. Words, lies, stones, bullets, explosives, missiles, chemical/biological agents are all tools used by these people in an attempt to gain control over something that was NEVER theirs. Until human nature changes, the violent will always exist. That's life. And, DREADA, just to show my own failings, as you say, my opinion is that the whole area, Israel excluded, should be turned via nuclear fire, into one large glass surface. We will no longer have to deal with the birthing of new terrorists and more importantly the price of gas will drop as the OPEC nations controling things will no longer exist. But that's just my opinion and one I don't even take seriously!
  4. Cruise, tsk, tsk. Your Fleet Commander is Vice Admiral Chavik not Lord David. Hmm... Perhaps its time to reintroduce the Leadership: Insurgent One, Rattler Head of All Insurgent Military Forces Insurgent Two, Akira Minister of War Vice Admiral Chavik Fleet Commander of Balor Fleet Designated as the Main Supply Force Vice Admiral Michael Kristophers Fleet Commander of Spectre Fleet Flagship Fleet of the Insurgency Vice Admiral Andergum Fleet Commander of Eversor Flet Primary Research & Development Vice Admiral Ramon du Sandau (Jester) Fleet Commander of Bishamon Primary Covert Ops & Intel Hope this clears things up for you. BTW, LordDavid is the CO over at New America... ------------------ Insurgent Two, Akira ICV Nevermore, Spectre HQ (Antis) Minister of War, Insurgency Official Tester, Battlecruiser Series ICQ 13379858 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand" [This message has been edited by Akira (edited 10-14-2000).]
  5. Yep, Cruise. In, therin lies the problem. A competent leader chooses those that would best perform the job all politics aside. In the case of the President, he is responsible for an entire nation. If he or she can't see beyond politics to the good of the people then he or she need not apply. However, we Americans are solely to blame for what happens as we are the ones that vote fools into office. We ourselves are unable/unwilling to see/understand the issues and therefore those that do vote, rarely vote based on a solid fundation of understanding the true nature of the candidate. Our form of democracy is NOT the best possible. It is merely the best being practiced right now. In this situation, if you don't have strong competant leadership, the sharks in the water smell that and attack. Welcome to the current situation. The lack of competant leadership has led to the Israel problem, the bombing of a Battleship, and now a hijacked airplane. That's not to say a good man makes a good pres. either. I think today that the best asset this country has is Carter. He was/is a very smart man and has done a lot since his term to better foreign relations. Had the current administration not been thinking about politics/legacy, it would have been former pres. Carter at Camp David, not Bill Clinton.
  6. Oh My. What an expansive universe, a little imagination and some agreeing players will get ya. Just from the above posts, I can already tell that I'm going to spen entirely too much time playing this game The real question is, though, which variant will become the most popular ------------------ Insurgent Two, Akira ICV Nevermore, Spectre HQ (Antis) Minister of War, Insurgency Official Tester, Battlecruiser Series ICQ 13379858 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
  7. SpacePhish, don't even begin to try and define what's happining with a trite song by a drugged out rasta from a little island in the Atlantic. I like Marley's music, but damn I'm sick of people that use hackneyed lyrics to define real life! Gallion,Sho, I agree with both of you. Clinton made himself look good by taking credit for things others acomplished without his knowledge or help. I respect the man's position, though. Were I still in the mil. I'd follow orders like a soldier should. However, I stare down my nose with contempt for those that are hoping he can come away from the office with some "positive" legacy. I laugh openly at those that think the man has what it takes to bring peace to a part of the world that hasn't known it in all of history. I have plenty more to say on the subject. My brother-in-law's family is in the middle of the situation right now. So, before you come to this board with a message of pitty for a man with a track record like Bill Clinton, just understand that I will be posting a reply that you may not like and deffinitely won't agree with because the economy is too good and everyone now has a minimum wage job! My condolences go out to the victims of this fanaticly religious atack by a people who may never know better. [This message has been edited by Akira (edited 10-12-2000).]
  8. Well, the question is still not answered. Here's what I want: easy to use buttons that I can configure to deliver "canned" text elements to my teammates.A headset mic combo that works reasonably well with whatever voice comm program i choose.A product that doesn't use a buttload of system resources to do something that seperate parts would do without the system drain. The puck and headset look cool, but damn if I don't trust MS to create something that works well with it's own OS If anyone knows of anything that will give me what I want under Win2K I'd appreciate the response ------------------ Insurgent Two, Akira ICV Nevermore, Spectre HQ (Antis) Minister of War, Insurgency Official Tester, Battlecruiser Series ICQ 13379858 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
  9. ROFL, nice save there Mike. Ok, there's no use in wasting a perfectly good leader on the training fields. You can consider yourself reinstated with the full privelages of your rank. That includes your office and private bathroom. I'm going to hang out in the recreational area 'til my quarters are finished. When last I was here, we still had Pong loaded on one of the machines. Damn thing wanted to play chess or Global Thermo Nuclear War with me, though. Hope that machine is still around. Nothing like a marathon round of Pong to get the wheels a movin'. ------------------ Insurgent Two, Akira ICV Nevermore, Spectre HQ (Antis) Minister of War, Insurgency Official Tester, Battlecruiser Series ICQ 13379858 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"
  10. Commodore Wold. I'll be taking ALL of Adm. Kristopher's quarters and offices as my own until mine are finished. However, knowing that Adm. Kristophers is your CO, I'm going to suggest that you put him some place hospitable. Say the center most supply closet. Or, I'd be glad to give him just as much as he offered me: My bathroom, or what's left of it after I turn it into an interogation chamber Actually, Wold, belay moving Adm. Kristophers into MY temporary private bathroom. I've been going over my Fleet Commander's training profiles... Adm Kristophers, you are hereby temporarily reduced in rank to Lt. and ordered to undergo squad level combat training. Suit up, you are to report to The Dojo. First run of training involves Escape and Evasion. You, your underware, a knife, and your wits for one month. By the time you return, I should be in my new offices. Enjoy! ------------------ Insurgent Two, Akira ICV Nevermore, Spectre HQ (Antis) Minister of War, Insurgency Official Tester, Battlecruiser Series ICQ 13379858 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand" [This message has been edited by Akira (edited 10-10-2000).]

    WinME?

Sorry to hear that Eclipse. Like I said, I had ZERO problems with hardware or my software under Win2K.
  12. Actually, Vaipa, at 32bit color, NOTHING beat the Raedon. Hehe, but who am I to speak. I've still got an original 16mb Riva TNT. I'm happy with it. But I'm looking and waiting. I'd love to have a Raedon, but don't have that kind of cash for a video card (especially when i could upgrade my cpu or get a 19" monitor for the same price). Anyway, Cruise. In, if you can afford it, go for the Raedon. The Voodoo5 is nice, but it's long in the tooth as far as vid cards go. I'd wait for the Voodoo5 6000 if I were going with the 3DFX.
  13. Hehe, Mike, guess who's coming to dinner And look, my sig got bigger too ------------------ Insurgent Two, Akira ICV Nevermore, Spectre HQ (Antis) Ministre of War, Insurgency Official Tester, Battlecruiser Series ICQ 13379858 "You can only love or hate something you truly understand"

    WinME?

quote:Originally posted by Eclipse: but don't want another mess like Win2k was. Huh? Man, I'm running W2K and it's rock stable. Heck, the games I play that are DircectX run fine too. In fact, the only problem I've had is with the stress test of Mech4. It's alph and it shows [This message has been edited by Akira (edited 10-08-2000).]
  15. Wow, Jon, welcome back! it's good to read that you're alive and kickin' ------------------ Vice Admiral Akira ICV-Nevermore, New Frontier Fleet Leader - Bishamon Fleet Official Tester Battlecruiser Series
  16. Hehe, Chavik, it's tough but not impossible. Just in case you didn't catch what's been said here David: You have what appears to be built in video on your motherboard. You DON'T have a 3dfx video card. Use the other shortcut created by the program. If it things still don't work, then be sure to read the Troubleshooting FAQ first. If things in the FAQ don't seem to work, return here and use the search function to see if anyone has already asked about the problems you're having. If you still can't figure out what's going, return to THIS thread and post another question. Be specific about your system specs. Be specific about what you tried from the FAQ and what happened. Be specific about what you searched for here in the forums. Finally, with as much detail as possible, describe your problem. As Rattler so aptly described, there is virtually nothing you can bring forward that hasn't already been seen. The closer you follow the above steps, thought, the faster you're likely to get the answer you need! Happy gaming
  17. Hamblin, the answer to your question is easy: They let it ride, and get free/cheap development. They release the game and maybe break even on the enormous amount of money they've already invested. However, if they allow the product to pass on to another publisher, they outright lose the initial investment and the lucky publisher gets the profits for nearly nothing. It's sad that they don't see that B5:ItF could have the same impact on the space sim as Doom/Quake had on FPS. However, large companies look at one thing and one thing alone: numbers. As it stands, only BCM, and BC:GCO are the last of the true Sapce Sims. Sure, Microfart will produce more mindless drivel along the lines of Freespace and its ilk, but the fact remains: There is nothing save the two mentioned titles in the works. My prediction in two years: The Space Sim is dead, long live... Pokemon? ******added****** Oh, and something else, while I'm on this soapbox. To those of you thinking "This is ok, there's still PS2, Xbox, and other consoles to provide me with gaming fun..." I hope you understand the role of the Sim. Consoles have their place. It's less expensive to buy a console to play arcade games at home rather than dropping a $1 per game at the arcade... but there's a reason sims were created. Arcade games require little or no thought. Just quick reaction times. They are nothing compared to even the most basic of FPS sims that require at least a little thought about tactics and strategy. There's a reason "arcade" games do well on the console and not on the PC. To play a sim on a PC you need to have at least one more sober brain cell than the console freak. Unfortunately, the almighty dollar prefers the drunkard console player. So, stock up on the suds and the spirits and ready yourself to join the millions in singing (with a brit'y accent): This sim is dead, long live the console! And all that is fine with me. Perhaps it will usher in a renewed interest in BOOKS. [This message has been edited by Akira (edited 10-04-2000).]
  18. Yep, DuesEx is a blast... very different from the normal FPS... well worth it at whatever price.
  19. I just found the final version in the local compusa. Has anyone gotten their hand on the final? Is it worth the $50 I'll have to drop on it?
  20. aaaaarrrrrgghhhh....tic... tic... tic... uuuuuuuugggggg....tic... tic... tic...plop....tic... tic... tic...shong.... swish...zzzzzzzzzzzip. Oh, hey Steve, how's it going! Light a match for me, will ya? Got to get groundside to that party at Minako's
  21. Yeah, I looked at it, but being like Gallion, I'm warry of MS hardware. It looked great. Being able to preprogram messages into the puck is a great thing, as I'm constantly having to rearrange my keyboard layout for Counter-Strike to accomadate near instant messages. The mic and headset looked good too. Too bad it turns out to be a bandwidth hog. Perhaps the perfect device would be a headset microphone combo that included something I could bite down on or toggle with my tounge to give "canned" messages to those unable to spare bandwidth for voice. As it stands both my hands are tied up.
  22. Parias, what does a mouse have to do with anything? Having a Boomslang (POJ IMHO) doesn't engender skills. Nor does it have anything to do with the sweet shots of Mars or the senario DS proffered... Check yourself there mate
  23. It may be you space, but it will definitely be me up there. Thanx to sniper training and experience gleened from Counter-Strike (a Half-Life mod) I've got a reaction time that is inhuman and accuracy to boot No one will be safe!
  24. Sorry, should've spoke up earlier... This RP adventure began freeform. I'm for it staying freeform. Nothing against you, Blades, but the best RP's here have come from Free RP'ng (I point back to the first major RP that happened here). Does this have the potential to be a huge story, yes. Does someone need to be in charge of the story? NO. This story can and will take on a life of its own. In fact it already has. Blades, I'd not be saying a thing if this story was entirely of your own making. Like Preemptive Strike, you create it, you control it. However, the community created this together. Each person added his or her own plot twists and story lines. The story was better for it. Let this one ride. If you want another PreStrike like rp, fine. Come up with an original idea and go for it. Have ideas where you'd like this rp to go? Fine, involve your assets. But don't expect anyone to play by your guidelines unless you work out something between the two of you. And then, it'll only apply to the two of you. ------------------ Vice Admiral Akira ICV-Nevermore, New Frontier Fleet Leader - Bishamon Fleet Official Tester Battlecruiser Series

    Endgame

I haven't had the chance to see it yet. I want to, but it sounds like I should only see the first half... or is it worth seeing all the way through? update: Well, I went to see the new Highlander movie. BLEH!!! This was the worst of the four that have been produced. The story line was forced, broken, and had no continuity at all. Whole scenes seemed to be tossed in to simply lengthen the film. Characters from the highlander were added for no reason save to add a tie with the television series. The characters in the movie lacked any depth or substantial purpose for their actions. The special f/x were lame. The cinematography was sub-par. In all, they started with a good idea but botched it royally. The television series had better scripts, storylines, more detailed characters, and far better f/x. This movie isn't even worth seeing at a budget dollar theatre. Sad. To make a point: Everything about Wing Commander, the movie, was far better than this one. [This message has been edited by Akira (edited 09-02-2000).]
