If FBI crack down on warez sites, so be it. If they could have done this before, may be Cavedog would still be in business.
I pay for every games I like to play,
also for my antivirus other utility soft but I will NOT submit to the "microsoft mandatory tax system".
While doing a warez cleaning the FBI could also cope with the big fish.

This morning some Frensh deputies put to examination a law to forbid such absurd trials
(heard this on France Info radio before going to work). A child will never be able to sue anyone just because he was born.
Then I am personnaly not a pro-choice, but I will politically fight for it to be a legal right. Even if it is paid with my tax money.
I am not only an individual, but a member of a nation. If I do not agree with the way my tax money is spent, then I will vote for someone else.

What the hell is ASL in BCM ???????
I read again the manual, but I just could not find it. HEEEELLLLPPPP !
BTW what SC means by "Don't worry because he has a LONG way to go. Problem is, he doesn't know it yet.".
At the moment I have been working only with the BCM paper manual as given in the box. Do you guys hide hundred pages of docs full of abreviations ?????
If yes then be sure that I hate you all. Then point me in the right direction and I'll start working.

Looked again through the whole doc, but I could not find ASL (as reported by sc). Did someone found it ? Is it related to ASD ?
At the moment ASL just means to me Advanced Squad Leader, which have not much relations to BCM....

That was one of the fisrt sentence I heard while learning to play Squad Leader Wargame.
But at the time, I had a wonderful glossary of all abreviations used in the rules.
We don't have any in BCM. So I created mine while reading the manual. Of course, when I finished my glossaray I discovered that I do not need it anymore.
But other newbie (like me) may get confused with the 178 abreviations used in the manual, and with the fact that a few one are used twice (MLS = main launch system & main life support)
It's in CSV (; separated), 1 column is the abreviation (sorted), 2d column is its signification and 3rd column is the manual page where I first found it.
So enjoy !

Living in France.
Preordered in September and still no news at all.
I send a "where is my order" (well, more polite terms) mail to BCM on thuesday (12/04/01) and still no answer...
Some here made something similar, how long did you have to wait to get an answer from BTM ?

You asked for other countries, well in France lots of black are from Guyane or Martinique territories, and they are frensh since centuries.
I work in IT, and I cannot remember a frensh black booted out just for his skin color.
(I said frensh black)
But this is not the case for Arabs (mostly Algeria and Morocco), since I have witnessed that on equal qualification, experience and pay a white or black guy will frequently be favored over an arab.
It is illegal, but you will never be able to prove it.
Today, if you want to hire an IT engineer, you will be able to find tens of qualified unemployed Arab guys but very few frensh names.
All service providers companies know that an Arab guy is much more difficult to rent to a client than an europeen guy (even an asian or black one).
So what of a solution ?
I still wonder.

How would react the indies if someone just launched a RANDOM weapon to one of their main populated world ?

So I think it would easier if the main powers would agree to these rules of war :
LAW 1 : no planet who reached stade 3 shall never be destroyed. Nothing more than tactical nukes shall be used on such a world.
LAW 2 : no mass destruction devices shall be sneaked and detonated in any world.
LAW 3 : no intelligent race shall be obliterated.
Please remember that these are agreements. If these should be transgressed, well things could get ugly.

I just cannot believe some of the posts I just read.
First for the UN : it is a neutral ground where country can negociate. Whatever it is called, there is a strong need for such an organisation. The corruption in it is just another problem.
Then for the terrorist guys. I was delighted to see somewhere in this forum a post with a link to the English mandate in palestine, just after WW2.
My grand-father's name was Arhur Middleton(also!), he was an officier in the british army sent to this country. Ten years ago he was still telling me about this dirty war, how some british soldiers were captured, executed and their corpse bobby trapped . How some random killing were done versus the arab population. How some bombing were done versus civilian buildings. All that by Israelian terrorists.

Just a thought for you guys,
Spanish dictator Franco was not able to wipe out ETA, nor is Spanish democracy.
France is not able to wipe out Corse terrorism.
UK is not able to wipe out IRA.
Almost all of the above posts speak about destroying terrorism. This has been tryed before, but always failed.
Would some of you would be shocked if I say that USA could loose the war by always winning battles ?
That means that as it took place for IRA, ETA and Corse movement, the state dismantled and destroyed countless numbers of terrorist squads, but there was has always been some fresh terrorists volonteers to start again the whole process.
What is your reaction on this point ?

Now USA and some UK troops are trying to take Ben Laden "dead or alive". I have no doubts that they will succeed.
I doubt it will be it the following weeks, I would guess they will catch this man in a few years after a longue and difficult hunt.
But they will catch him. And some of his officers. In fact I am sure that his organisation will be completely destroyed.
And these bastards deserve their fate.
But then ?
Will it prevent just another madman to step in Ben Laden's shoes ? Will it prevent another murderer to create another terrorist organisation ?
Of course not.
USA is the country who brings the largest help to Egypt to take a case. And yet USA is there the most hated state just after Israel. Where Egypt's leader fully understand their best interest to be allied to US the population just keep disliking USA (at best). Which takes us to the two pending problems :

Most of middle east find unfair the current situation where the blocus is mostly harming the population. And S. Hussein is still in power, and abseloutely not repenting.

From Arab view, Europe and USA created Israel at the expense of Palestinian. The popular meaning is then some arabs are homeless because jews stole their land.
So the Irak problem will start to be solved when S.Hussein is dead. I would guess that a state without Hussein's family at its head would be much less threatening. Which would lift the blocus and allow for internationnal funding.
On the other hand, the Palestinian problem is way more dangerous. It is very interesting to see that when an arab leader want to put the opinion with him, he starts saying that his doing are to help the Palestinians. Even if he did never took care of them before. And it works ! It works ! Just look at middle east population opinion. Take Egypt, very few people agrees with the hidjacking and the virus-bombing. But a vast majority say they can understand why it was done.
Well the point is that anybody who think that this crisis will be resolved by weapons only is dreaming. As long as Palestinian and Irak issues will remain, there will be an ENDLESS supplie of "ready to fight" terrorists. As there has been in Northern Ireland with United Kingdoms.
Now here is my question : what do you think of this situation, what is your analysis of it especially from USA and Israel point of view ?
I know I have an Europeen view, so I am eager to read what other country think this whole thing.

My old OS was Win98se, I went for xp PRO final release.
I formatted my hard drive and went to install it.
The install is smooth and overall a good quality work.
But then, I discovered that I was not able to play system sound (uuuhhrrr ????), but music cd-rom were working fine, and a game was playing sounds all right. To update my sound drivers, I then tryed to install my DSL drivers, the install went perfectly. I rebooted the computer but when I tryed to connect, the system did a reset. Exactely as if I did push the reset button. After a long search, I discovered that the install was not finished correctly, and I had to manually apply IP settings on my modem to have it working properly. But EVERYTIME I did something wrong on the DSL setup, I endured a reset.
Then I was able to connect to the internet. But I still endure some random resets. Rare, but still.
I did download win2000 drivers for soundblaster live, I installed them, but at the end of the install I experimented another RESET !
So I uninstalled soundblaster's drivers, and I stayed with the MS drivers for sb live.
I remember reading during the install that win xp vainquished the blue screen of death, that is absolutely true, I have never seen it since I am on xp. But I NEVER had so much reset on a computer.
I am not sure it can be called a progress.....
By the way, Nvidia drivers are ok.
Please note that I never had a problem to rollback a driver, this feature works fine.
Conclusion : if you install win xp, just work for MS drivers. The only exception is nvidia drivers. I regret doing this migration, I should have waited for a few months, I believe that by december most 3rd party drivers will be ok, but at the moment they are a pain in the ass.

Some points I wanted to react on :
Equality : remember there are now proof that we are not born as equals. Some of us grow up as Einstein, Mozard or Platon and some will not be able to lace their shoes alone for their life.
Then it is a bit "artificial" to think so different people will live(deserve?) the same living condition.
Anyway, the problem is not to limit the amount of money that Bill Gates can earn per year. I believe the problem is more what is the minimum to live under which human dignity is not respected ?
To answer this question I do not think that capitalism is adapted, but communism is even worse.
Then a bit of history : I read in this thread that in the 30s in Germany, the Jews were possessing almost the entire (what was left of) German economy. This point has seen some widespread use in different country. This is to forget a bit to quickly that during 1500 years, jews were NOT allowed to own lands in most of europe. They could work on it, but never own it. There you go on the legend that all jews were merchants. In fact, they had very little choice.
During middle age, the power was with the lands owners. Merchants was some sort of low caste. That started to change around XVI century. Nowadays it is the contrary....
Then for the feeling of most of Europe versus the jews, it has NEVER been good until end of second world war. My Grandmother used to pray in the church to forgive 'these poor jews who killed the Crist'.

Guns are restricted in France.
No pistols, only hunting rifle or similar weapons. No war weapons are permitted, and knifes are restricted.
But I do not think restriction is the point. France as most of Europeen citizen never used to have lots of guns.
It is a cultural thing. When I read previous posts, I just wondered "By God, why should a normal guy need a tank in its garden, a rocket launcher in its saloon and a kalashnikov in its bed room ????? Don't they have police to maintan law and order ?".
It is very difficult for lots of Europeen
people to understand the way USA deals with personal weapons. Especially when you realize that in UK, most of policemen don't even have a gun.
There is some figures I still remember from my school years. In a text about a comparution between frensh and US criminals, there was this number slipped in : in the previous year, there has been around 40 dead by gun shoots in France, and around 10000 in USA. This was around 1985.

I will not dare to say if weapon free access is good or bad for USA. I acknowledge that USA is a democratic country which is staying whith this system. What is not even thinkable in France (or in most of Europe) is part of the Law in USA. What is weird for me is a normal right for some US citizens.
Definitely, we do live in interesting times.

The inquirer made another article about the bug-war between Via and Nvidia, which is now between Nvidia and all chipset producers.

Via made an uptade to their 4in1 4.36 drivers. It is still 4.36, but the silent patch for nvidia cards has been updated. You can find it at www.viaarena.com
PS in my case nvidia 23.11 with 4in1 4.36 was a good fix, it worked fixing frequent BSOD on win xp.
