  1. Rattler is right, they were probably high IQ Insurgents. Pitty you can't tell because the system does not display the race/caste of who boards you (will do in BC:3020AD), instead it just identifies them as intruders. Which is actually correct since the computer won't know unless they identified themselves... quote: Insurgent: "....computer, this is Terran/Insurgent Commander Braindead of the Insurgent Strike Force, here to give your Commander an enema with this brand spanking new Plasma gun." computer: "....Terran/Insurgent intruder detected, claims he is here on a medical visit sir" co: "....priority one alert, foul mouthed intruder onboard, marines assigned to hide duty"
  2. Elite did not support multi-tasking, multi-threading, nor is the AI anywhere near BC3K, plus, it only updated one region at a time.
  3. quote: Incidentally, I haven't been bothering much with medpaks, unless the medics happen to use them on their own. I find that by just sending wounded personnel to the Medibay, they heal pretty quickly without my having to treat them. The MO and medics are trained to do that. The CE is also trained to have engineers do auto-repairs but that was not fully completed (an issue of parts available became a pain) and is disabled. Will be fully implemented in BC:3020AD so that they behave as medics in that they will auto-repair systems based on damage, priority and parts availability.
  4. Vorg, that is exactly how it should be done. When ICs return, they are re-armed using stores from your ship. If the default is not available, then the closest match will be used.
  5. Formations are being implemented in v2.0 in order to solve this problem with premature collisions which end up destroying ships. Since the world is in 3D, the ship will pick an arbitrary point around the escortee and hug it. There will be no changes to the GBS which only uses the 24hr clock co-ordinates to indicate a point around the escortee. The ESCORT profile may be changed in the GBS so that the parameters become optional. As Pan pointed out, formations will go to hell in a hand basket once engagement starts. This is normal, however, in case no-one noticed, the ESCORT profile will ONLY allow allow a ship to break its current position IF a hostile ship threatens/attacks the escortee. It will NEVER break from this formation otherwise. Once the threat is neutralized, it will return to its original order. The DEFEND order works the same way but the ship will actively engage any threat that attacks the ship it is defending. It will NOT seek other targets. In it's priority list will be ships that are threatening or most likely to threaten the ship it's defending, unlike ESCORT which does not require the escort to maintain a priority list. Am I clear or was that confusing?
  6. I'm not changing it. If you are cloaked, you cannot be boarded because they can't find the ship in order to breach it's shield frequencies anyway. You have marines who are tasked at taking care of intruders...at least when they aren't playing cards to twiddling their thumbs. If you don't want to be boarded, invest in a phenomenal amount of cloak fuel and stay cloaked. So, everyone can simmer down now. [This message has been edited by Supreme Cmdr (edited 01-19-99).]
  7. There is no orbital mode in v2.0. There will be in BC:3020AD for no other reason other than 'completeness'
  8. Thats already in the specs for BC:3020AD. You would be able to call up a camera (like the tacops Command Palette camera) for any object. If it is one of you own, you have the option to see from the cockpit view. If you don't have the processing power, then you're screwed of course.
  9. That is already part of the AI logic. If I enable starbase docking, they operate like starstations, with crafts, ATVs, personnel etc
  10. BC:3020AD will have first person perspective control of deployed personnel. Complete with animated models (running, crouching, laying prone, running+firing etc). It may also contain the BC model as used in the Strike Pak boarding module. This will allow you to walk around in your own ship in 3D. The Strike Pak models of all stations, carriers, transports and cruisers, are being created. If the BC one is finished on time, it will be included in BC:3020AD as a preview. If its not finished on time, then I will add it as a patch. If the BC model is included in BC:3020AD, you will be able to use your sidearms when going after intruders. Or you can go into the armory and grab a pulse cannon. You will only be able to control your own alter-ego, not the others. If you want to know where the intruders (or personnel are), you would call up your hand held PerScan and locate them. Think Aliens. We are using the Eclipse3D for the development of this module. So, simmer down.
  11. quote: While we're on this subject, I've noticed that, in TACOPS, it's rather difficult to click on the craft list at right. TACOPS keeps assuming I want to zoom in instead of select I am aware of this and will look into it. quote: Also, on the Bridge, if my finger slips and I left click the mouse, the bridge menu comes up. While this is all well and good, if you try to get rid of this menu by clicking somewhere else, the menu doesn't go away, another one comes up (!!!), and you have to reach for the escape key. This is very annoying. Aware of that too, been too lazy to write it up so that the RIGHT-CLICK discards it. [This message has been edited by Supreme Cmdr (edited 01-06-99).]
  12. Tom, read all the messages in this forum and you will see why the galaxy will remain segmented.
  13. The ONLY time that the autorun will start is if the BC3K.INI file is missing from your Windows folder. It is put there by the setup program. If you ran BCSETUP.BAT (which is what autorun runs), then it checks for this file and if it finds it, will not restart the setup program.
  14. I came up with all the names for the tech used in BC3K. I used radar in order that folks who don't have time to understand my mundane acronyms, have something to relate to. The BC does *not* use radar in the strict sense of the word.
  15. quote: Anymore surprises you have in stored for us? Oh yeah....45+ new features that'll make your ass burn.
  16. Radar ranging is fully modeled in BC:3020AD. In fact, the code is in BC3K v2.0 but disabled for simplicity. Its a bitch when you are being shot at by some guy who is BVR (beyond visual range). With the complexity of BC3K, its one of many features that are suppressed in the interest of playability. I suspect that by BC:3020AD, you will all be experts and want more, more, more. God help the newbies to BC:3020AD who never played any prior versions. They'll be bleeding for a long time to come.
  17. This section is for submission of suggestions, not a protracted discussion of pointless issues. Lucas already, seems as if he's the only one who has been listening to me all these years, explained WHY the universe is divided. Defender, your suggestions will never be implemented. Just wanted to put your mind at ease
  18. The galaxy was segmented for specific reasons and I've discussed them over and over and have no intentions of repeating it here. Needless to say, it won't change. As to the second issue...it's ignored. The game is complex enough.
  19. Welcome back Antti! Hope you are feeling better. Nothing much has changed except that Interplay missed the ship date - again, some pirates are getting geared up in Europe to benefit from my v1.00 to 2.01 patch, I'm really pissed at Interplay for the lost revenue (everyone can kiss their Christmas bonus goodbye) and the Insurgents are just as arrogant as ever. Yep, a lots happened.
  20. LOL, I heard that was some sort of treaty in the works. Ha!, I'd like to see how long that one lasts
  21. Welcome back!...er 'ang on a minute, I didn't know he was gone. Reminds me of a Rodney Dangerfield joke. "....yeah, been in the entertainment industry for a long time, so I quit. To give you an idea of how well I was doing when I quit; I was the only one who knew I quit."
  22. Details about the Strike Pak are classified. Needless to say, its nothing like you've played before in the space-sim genre.
  23. The Strike Pak will have a dynamic world similar to the existing 3D space world. No holds barred. You'll be able to walk into the Operations room and catch your marines playing cards when they should be on search order...and similar oddities. The ENTIRE ship and crew will be modelled. Working on it.
  24. Let me put you out of your misery All info regarding mp, is classified. Two things are certain: the dynamic universe will be there, the Insurgents had better start looking for a new galaxy to romp around in.
