  1. Talking about War and Patriotism, check out this news story. http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB82/press.htm
  2. Yes, I started to see this as I got to the end. It does start to get really tough. So We'll see, I may end up picking up this title. Although, I'd wait for a few more reviews and other's opinions before i do so. I may just save the cash for BCG, but I think I need something to carry me over until then. We'll see. Cheers!
  3. All I can say is that it's fun exploring the universe and the ships are cool. I wish the AI was a bit stronger for the oponents, as it gets to easy to take them down. Like I was able to take down 7 other Junkers solo, and what I had read from reviews is that this would almost be impossble. I highly doubt that I have amazing combat skills, so that part is a let down. They are too predictable. BTW I do like the mouse combat, as you can be really acurate and fast. A joystick would probably slow down the combat alot in this game. Anyways, I'm not going to judge it yet. I dunno if I'm going to buy it, but so far, it's been really fun. But you can't even compare Freelancer to the BC series, as it doesn't even come close to offering it up. I think they just did a real good job at making it easy for anyone who refuses to read a manual to be able to play. The masses could suck this up because it doesn't take any time at all to learn how to play.
  4. Will there be an ability to befriend an "enemy" caste so that [outside of the reputation system an on an individual basis], for example, I was in an MP game and I was an assasin, a TER/POL could get in contact with me, we could make a deal [i.e. the POL could pay off the assasin to fight with him, for him]. This way, on the radar, he would show up as a netral target, and not an enemy, so my assets would not attack him.
  5. Well, unless fileplanet is mistaken? Freelancer Demo You need to get a key from fileplanet to use the demo though, but just go to http://www.3dactionplanet.com/lancer/ and there are keys in the forum. Cheers!
  6. I always use online banking to check my accounts and pay my bills. But for everything else, I prefer to go to the bank.
  7. And in taking things to extreme, BBC presents the following.... French fries off US menu. Sheesh!
  8. From the BBC Israel splits Gaza Strip. Well, lest we forget that there are other struggles still going on, that the media has not been covering due to other "more important" issues. I've yet to find a good site focusing on reports from Africa as well. Does anyone have any links that would be of use? Cheers!
  9. quote:Now that Turkey is assured of the mutual defense treaty they now try to hit the US up for more money. quote: From the BBC: The US has offered Ankara an aid package that includes $6bn in grants and up to $20bn in loan guarantees in return for their use of Turkish bases. But Ankara has demanded more than $30bn in assistance, Reuters news agency reported, citing US sources. This gets more and more interesting all the time.
  10. Happy Birthday Jaguar! Yeah, I get to use these again.
  11. Happy Birthday! [sorry, since I never get to use these I had to get carried away ] Cheers!
  12. Heh, yes I see that it's rather similar. I just wanted to keep it simple, and I guess we all agree that this is a nice way to do that. Cheers!
  13. Ya I was thinking about getting a drop down like in the game, But I'm just going to put the links to different sections on the bottom bar. I'm thinking I should make it look more like a terminal by putting a blurred back drop beind it. Cheers!
  14. Well I'm in the process of putting tegether a simple website for both my RP'ing and in hopes of getting things started before the release of BCG when we can finally start getting some multiplayer in there. Link to it HERE There's not much there right now, but it'll build up eventually. Cheers!
  15. Hmm well I was looking into this and, well, looks like XP Home doesn't have the default Backup Uility installed. So, if you want to restore the System State from a back up you'd firsthave to install the backup utility from the XPhomeCD. Look HERE for how to do that, if you want. Anyways, from what I read there, It's probably just simpler for you to reinstall everything from scratch, ranther than trying to do a system restore from a backup. And if your apps were on the same drive as your OS, then you have to do that anyways.
  16. Well, Wolf, here's what you should do. Backup all the data and the files you wish to keep. [in my case, I dont burn to a CD, I have several partitions. The root partition, C:/, only has the OS and sevral other programs I installed on it. I place my programs and scratch/swap disk on other partitons, but I always have 1 partition that I stores all of my work on [and which I back up every day]. What I prefer to do, which does take more time, is to reistall all my programs on my comp afer a reinstall of the OS. I dunno why, it just makes me feel better . You can get a WIN98 bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com , and use that to get to the command promt then >format c: or use fdisk if you want to change partitions [if you are doing this, i strongly recommend using partition magic] NOTE: Ive never used or done the following, but it is an option. You'd have to go look up how to do this.I've never actually used the restore system state from a backup, so I can't say how well it works. In fact I'm going to go check up on this right now You could go to the backup utility and the backup wizard and go to backup the Systemstate. Save that on a partition you are not formatting. This is a good solution because this way all I have to do to reinstall the OS is to ">format C:" and start the reinstall. Then, once the install is completed you can restore the system state. 17. Well From what I've read in the articles and media stories it's more like this. The US wants to uses bases in Turkey, and even possible get Turkish forces involved when/if they attack Iraq. Now, since the US wants to use Turkey to aid in their military campain, Turkey has to be in a good position to defend itself because they will be a military target. So to make it clear, the US wants Turkey to have these defenses because it aids in the plans they have for attacking Iraq. Turkey invoked Article4 which the news sources says: "when in the opinion of any of them, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the parties is threatened".
  18. quote: quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So you have some people saying all corporations are evil -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The institution reminds me of something Soviet. Without countervailing force the greed runs rampant and the greater good is not served. Unless you are a Thomas Friedman believer and in that case you probably make more then 100,000 a year or want to, false consciousness is an amazing thing. I never said there were not corporations that were evil, nor that corporations don't exploit and try to controll people. IN re-reading what i had written [so you have some people saying all corporations are evil, and others saying that the former are blind idiots who have no clue how the world works.] I can see how it could be misinterpreted as to what I was trying to say. My intent was to state to two far-sides of the argument: 1. that all corporations and capitalism are evil and 2. that all corporations and capitalism is necessary. I was not intending to sate that I agree with one, or both of these statements. quote:As to the nature of man, anthropologists agree that hunters and gathers lived in peaceful and egalitarian societies. From the anthropology classes I have taken, this is most definitely not true. Even in primitive societies, there are conflicts. I have never read of, or heard of a society that existed without either internal or external conflicts. Excuse my ignorance in this matter if i am wrong. quote: quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh yeah, and by the way, I was also saddened that this post had to develop into a series of insults flung between individuals -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't respond well to aggressive and ridiculous statements. If I'm not provoked I don't reciprocate. I will say I can get emotional but I don't aim at any one person....unless of course I'm singled out. I meet the standards demonstrated. It was not my intention to single you out, I was just stating what I saw going on in the posts. Oh yes, and TAC, that was a really good find. Cheers!
  19. You know, I started this thread just to let everyone know what was hapenning, even though you guys are probably following the news. First, I only put up the 3 big mass media links to BBC, CBC and CNN. Just so that people would read their stories and see what points of view each one pushes more than the other. I did not put up Guerrilla news because as soon as those links fly, people whip back with some other site that has some radical opinions as well. However, I would hardly call GNN entirely left wing propaganda. Go rad all of their article, there are some really good ones in there. To take a source of information and say it`s better than any other is absolutely wrong. All media, and all history is biased. That`s a fact. The mass media we get here in North America is heavily controlled by government and corporations, and I KNOW everyone realizes this. So you have some people saying all corporations are evil, and others saying that the former are blind idiots who have no clue how the world works. The fact is, that the world is a shitty place. Most people want to be good decent people, and want everything to be fine and dandy. However, being part of the world today, as it has evolved, automatically puts on our heads the actions of those in the past. So people in some country may still hate me for what my people did 30 or 100 years ago. So, as people we stay angry, and we are selfish. Even if I don`t always realize it, or don`t want to realize it, me sitting ere typing away at my computer, while I do term it progress, has also been the cause of a lot of suffering. While I make this realization, it is UNREALISTIC to think that I could have it any other way. HOWEVER, it is our jobs to ensure that, despite the errors of the past, we strive to change things for the better. All I`m going to say is that look at what`s going on in the world right now, and look who is doing what. Are things getting better now, or are they looking worse? I think everyone has to agree that the latter is true. Even if you support the war, you`d have to be crazy to actually WANT a war. If the American goverment did not WANT a war, none of this would be happening. Because frankly, look at the world stage and you`ll see the Americans pushing for war, their allies reluctanly supporting them, for the most part, and the growing opposition. I was reading the news yesterday and what I read was quote along the following lines that The American Government will go on with its plans regardless of NATO support or not. What does that say to you? And what does it say when the American government says that the weapon inspections are useless, and that they need to go to war now? And the fact is that there are a lot of Americans who see it too, so I`m not pointing a finger at the american people, but rather at their government. I`m not going to say that ANY government around the world is great, as they all work for their own interests, some more than others. Right now, the American Government is showing how blatantly they are willing to use their power sttus to get what they want, and are saying to hell with whatever morals our people have. The American Government is very smart indeed, it`s just sad they are using all that brainpower for war, and not to make things better. --EDIT-- Oh yeah, and by the way, I was also saddened that this post had to develop into a series of insults flung between individuals. You can`t debate a subject by telling your opponent he`s an idiot and that everything he says is wrong. Listen and read, and don`t get offended. Put down your counterargument and keep the debate going. How the hell can we influence eachither`s thoughts if all we want to do is beat eachother with a mallet?
  20. Well, since we're throwing links around. Check this out site as well. Guerrilla News
  21. BBC News CBC News CNN Well, it will be interesting to see how this will evolve in the next several days.
  22. Ah yes I see now, I got confused between thinking the "99bottle of beer" was it only realizing that the Beer Bomb was the section. Upon closer examination of the code, I see what you mean Nova. Cheers!
  23. quote:Originally posted by Cmdr Nova: What's crazier than having to waste your time clicking all of those dialogues down, is realizing that someone else took even more time to code it all. Well we have to start the song right? ---- Did the Beer Song get lost during a black out phase? Why does my house feel like a maze? Or am I in a drunken haze? Where every day is like a drunken craze? Why am I so full of fear, As I stare at my empty beer, This feeling inside is rather queer, I think something terrible is very near! As I relax my head on the toilet seat, I think of all the things I've tried to beat, This has got to have been the one that s least neat, I have a mop to clean up what I did eat. Oh Beer, Beer, Beer, You take away all my fear! I know that you a dear, You wondefully, refreshing cold beer! ----- [ 02-09-2003, 08:07 PM: Message edited by: Fractux ]
  24. I've been playing it this morning. I find that I'm enjoying it so far.
  25. My girlfriend is a real Fantasy fan as well. I've found that I enjoy both, but I tend to lean more towards more science fiction. I've started reading more of Gordon Dickson's Childe Cycle. It's pretty hard to find the books though, soon I'll have to look on Amazon for the one's I don't have. Cheers!
