  1. Max payne is not much of a game. I've played it, finished it, took me 12 hours on Fugitive difficulty. Once you finish the game you gain access to two new harder difficulty levels. One where the baddies are harder, better AI etc and one where the levels are timed. However even on these harder settings, the levels are identical. Same no. of badies, same items in the same places etc. I really can't be bothered playing it through again on the harder levels. I have better things to do with my time. The graphics are sweet and the bullet time okay. But there is no multiplayer and little in the way of replay value. It isn't worth the money to me. There are few titles out there that seem to innovate these days. Even anachronox which I have enjoyed playing, took 28 hours to get the end level and I haven't seen and done everything, is still a graphical improvement on the likes of Final Fantasy VII. No, I suggest we all save our money and wait for BCM. Jez. [ 08-01-2001: Message edited by: Tyrrian ]
  2. Paddy, To prevent intruders stealing your equipment you have to turn of launch control. I don't know how this would work if you jumped in an Intercepter and left the BC in AI mode. Would the AI turn on the launch control or keep it switched off. If it is kept switch off how then do you dock. I will check if you have access to the command options of the BC, i.e. Logistix control whilst in command of an Interceptor. I can't remember. You can also install a number of marines in each of the shuttles. That way they will defend any shuttle the intruders attempt to take. The only problem I have found with that is usually the intruder manages to launch the shuttle then has a fight with the marines, and then when injured enough blows up the shuttle anyway. Best way is to leave marines in the shuttle (useful for shuttle operations anyway) and manual switch launch control on and off as required. Jez.
  3. Hehe... Argos is banned in our house. Too much temptation for the wife!! Glad to see you have sorted out your ordering problem. I see you out there amongst the stars.... [ 07-09-2001: Message edited by: Tyrrian ]
  4. Man I like this Game. Having turned renegade and wiped out the Alderan station I pursued a couple of the fighters it managed to launch to attack me. I destroyed one and damaged the other. The damaged when fled and I follow in the BC along with my 4 launched interceptors. Wanting to see the fireworks I used f10 to see my target and noticed little sparks flying of the crafy all over the place. The craft was badly damaged and the sparks just added to it. Nice attention to detail, well done SC. Jez.
  5. quote: Apparently, Office 95 can't read Word documents that were created with Office 97, Office 97 can't read Word documents that were created with Office 2000 and so on. They might be able to open the files, but the contents aren't displayed correctly. This is because Microsoft keeps changing the Word format. Why? To maintain its stranglehold on the market True Menchise, I wasn't thinking about that. I use Office 95 at home as my personal copy and whilst I have internet access at home it is usually only used by my Wife for Email. I work for an IT company and we have unrestricted T3 access to the net and keep uptodate with all software. Hence I am using office 2000 in work and any docs I download work fine in the majority of cases. Cheers Jez.
  6. I often wonder whether we acutally need to upgrade to the next version of office. I run with office 95 on my w2k system. I have yet to use even the power of the package so I can see no real reason to update to a later version. I wonder if Office XP is really worth it? Jez.
  7. Yo Hi Jaguar, Sorry its been a while, but I have been away for 2 weeks. You're damn right I moved house! The last time I had any sort of criminal trouble was about 5 years ago, after I turned the house that I was being robbed in, into a lookalike Fort Knox!! I guess we come from different cultures with different takes on things, we will just have to beg to differ on the issue of Gun control. cheers Jez.
  8. Fendi, I live in the UK as well. I suspect from your mail you will not be able to order over the net via SC's special site at www.BMTMICRO.com for overseas buyers. Send me a mail privately to [email protected] and we might be able to work something out. I'd be willing to order a copy for you if you will pay it back in full. Let me know what you think. regards Jez.
  9. quote: Some people, by their actions and by their demented mental processes, FORFIET their right to life when they feel that they can violate and exterminate the LIFE OF OTHERS! Is it BETTER to keep these demented psycopaths locked up for life and PAY FOR THEIR FREAKIN' WELFARE INSTEAD?! Why should I have to pay to keep someone alive who HABITUALLY murders, rapes, commited other vile acts against society?! I have no problem with the death penalty provided due process has been carried out. What you are suggesting is the gun owner who feels threatened in some way should be judge, jury and executioner. I too have no patience for rapists, murderers, wife beaters, burglers etc, but do not see the arming of the average citizen as the panecea to end all such social ills. I accept the need to defend one family from harm, but I'm not convinced that every criminal who breaks into your property is there to personally injure you or your family. More than likely he just wants to take your possesions. And I reinterate, my possesions are not worth someones life, no matter who they are. If you note South Africa where gun ownership is perfecly accepted and where they have a definite need to defend themselves, has the ownership of guns prevented such violent crime? No it has increased. The same arguement is made over and over again. I must be able to defend my family from that crazed killer and I can only do that with a gun. Interesting isn't it? In the UK we do not have guns and I can't remember the last time some crazed killer broke into my house to murder me, rape my wife and abuse my kids...have I missed something? I must be the lucky one, but oh no I seem to remember something about such crimes being very low in the UK. Indeed since I have been the victim of crime 7 times in the UK, mostly burgalry and theft, I never once met the perpertrators, indeed they only seemed interested in my belongings. Interesting too, they never hung around to abuse or attack any of my family. But of course me owning a gun would have been very helpful. They would have stolen that too and sold it on to some criminal gang. Fortunately crazed killers are rare in the UK, from the description of the need for guns, they must be quite common in the USA. Jez.
  10. I would love to pre-order the game, but EB in the UK do not appear to be selling it yet. I have pre-order in the states for another game, yes you guess right BC3000AD V2. However the order got screwed and I ended up recieving and paying for two copies. I gave one to my mate, but EB shipping fees to the UK are ultra expensive, about the quadrupled the cost of the game. SO I guess I will wait until I have a firm idea of who will be selling it in the UK. Can't wait tho'. Jez.
  11. quote: And last but not least, anyone that breaks into my house to rob me of my possessions, gives up ALL rights to Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. If they wanted to live to tell the tale, they wouldn't have been stupid enough to break into my house. In my house, I HAVE all the advantages, know the layout, will know where the noise is coming from, and no warning, no what the hell are you doing in my house, it's one shot, and call the coroner for the body Jaguar, Your desire to take life is one of the reasons I have no desire to live in the States no matter what your so called freedoms are. To me your desire to own guns amounts to little more than a desire to kill people and you are just looking for an excuse to do so. The way you write suggests that the only life you value is your own and the rest can go to 'hell'. Your casual disregard for human life makes me glad you were well trained in the army. I understand, and correct me if I am wrong, that even your armed police are required to shout a warning and at least have some evidence that the person is armed before they willing(unwilling) shoot the person. Just walking up to your house to ask directions seems an invitation to be shot. It saddens me that someone of your evident capabilities is all to willing to kill people, I might suggest the way your write gives evidence you would enjoy the chance to kill someone. Its a surprise you don't advocate the death penalty to all who break the law. The person that speeds, the person that shoplifts, the hooligan who writes graffiti across the school wall, those who get into bar room brawls and injure some inocent. Hey they have all broken the law, they have lost all right to the consitution, just line up against the wall and let have at em with an M60. No sorry, such arguements don't wash with me. Jez.
  12. Well this probably isn't the best place to start a thread but here goes. And if this thread is a duplicate I humbly apologise in advance. I am just interested in what computers people are running BC3K v2.9 on, in terms of low spec rather than high. The reason I say this is that I have been running with Windows 2k on all 3 of my computers for about a year. having been waiting for BCM for a while and seeing it nearing completion I decided to reinstall BC3k V2 and relearn all that I had forgotten. Well we know that it doesn't work under win 2k, or at least for me, even with that D£D hack The SC did, so I was stuck for a machine to run it on. But genius that I am I dug out an old laptop which I knew had win95 on it. A 2GB HDD, 32 MG Ram and a CD rom , should work shouldn't it. And it did very slowly but perfectly stable and playable. 10FPS at best dropping to 2 or 3 under severe combat situations. SO the speck of my lowly Laptop, AN HP Omnibook 5500 P133 32MB RAM 2GB HDD 4x CDROM 1MB Chips and Technologies 655XX card. I thought the 1MB graphics card would let me down as it is below the minimum speck, but no it works fine. Who said BC3K had problems!!! As for know, I rebuilt my main machine to triple boot Win98SE, w2k Pro and W2k Server. Under 98 I know get 50fps, so I can have even more fun. Can't wait to get me mits on BCM, I just know it will rock. Cheers Jez.
  13. Fendi, I think you might have missed the point I was trying to make. I agree Tony Martin may have got a rough deal in defending himself. On the other hand the burglers were not armed and would probably run a mile if they new Mr Martin was about. This issue is NOT GUNS, it is PEOPLE! To able to own and have guns in the house puts a massive resonsibility on the person owning the gun. I personally do not feel that the UK population is capable of handling that responsibility. You just need to see what is happening with the race riots in Oldham at the moment. How much worse do you think it would be if the racist nutters on both side of the equation (Asian and Caucasian) had guns available. Do you think it would stop at a few thrown rocks and pertrol bombs. Shootings would escalated...we see that in Northern Ireland and I have no desire to see it on the streets of my country. Beyond that there is the sanctity of life. Whilst I despise burgulers and other lowlife criminals they are nevertheless human beings no matter how far they have sunk. I don't believe that 16 year old kid deserved to have his life taken from him, because he made a bad decision to enter the house uninvited of an armed man. My stereo system is just not worth his life. If Jesus thought he was worth dying on a cross for then he's worth trying to rehabilitate him and you can't do that when if he is dead. Nope Guns are better left out of society. Jez.
  14. quote:Gun crime in the UK is on the rise - guns are banned there. Your correlation is loose. Gun crime is not generally on the increase except amongst criminal gangs who choose to use the weapons to kill each other. The real issue I feel is not perhaps the right to bear a gun, but how responsible are the people who bare those guns. In Australia Guns are banned and the crime rate increases. In the UK guns are banned and gun related crime goes down. In Switz a lot of people may have a gun in the house but the ammo is generally in sealed boxs. Also I would suggest their national character is not one to use guns, similar to the UK. Guns are a part of America whether people like it or not. That means that guns are available whether you like it or not. The issue is not the weapon but the person. However dealing with people is a lot harder than dealing with the weapons. That is why I believe gun control is necessary and why I am glad the UK banned them. TO be honest I am glad I am not American or living there so that it is not an issue I need to live with. Jez.
  15. Well I think I will add my own two cents worth, for what it is worth. I come from England, home to 60 million people. The only 'gun' that you can legitimately have in the UK is a Shotgun. These are heavily controlled by the police, and its normal to only find farmers with them. Violent crime sadly is still on the increase in the UK since hte banning of Guns, but the use of guns within these crims has reduced dramatically. A shooting in the UK is now generall a rare occasion and is only generally found when rival crime factions take each other out and I really couldn't care about that. The gun was never really a major part of the British culture as such very few people were actually bothered when they were banned. The majority of the country agreed anyway. It is therefore difficult to compare the USA with any other country as they have enshrined the right to bare arms in their constitution. THe UK has no such constitution. The only issue I can really see with Gun Control or lack of it, is the ease of which people who are not responsible can get their hands on Guns. From a UK perspective it seems rediculously easy to obtain a firearm of any type. We are also influenced by the Sad stories which come out of the states to the UK where guns have been abused. Other than the school incidents, one which springs out in the UK is a case of an Englishman who stopped his car in an american neighbourhood and walked up to the front door of someone's house to ask directions. He knocked on the door, it opened, he faced the barrel of a gun and then died as the house owner shot him. Why we ask ourselves. Because a gun was available to shoot him, because it was a case of mistaken identity, because there was a desire to use a gun. That man had a family I guess that didn't matter, all that mattered was the right for that American to bear arms and defend himself. This is the situation as we see it in the UK and that is why we banned guns, to remove one of the easiest methods to kill someone. Sure if you really want to do it you can, but I really wouldn't want to piss someone off who regularly carried a gun. One wrong word at the wrong time and that barrel could be pointed at me. I suspect this will really annoy those who care deeply about guns, sorry guys but there it is. Whilst Jaguar is an expert with Guns and probably very responsible with it, there are probably more out people out there who are not and can find gun access very easy. Jez.
